Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

What an lovely day for a parkrun. I was feeling good this morning and positioned myself near the start and went for it. Totally smashed by pbpb Grin running my 5th fastest parkrun ever. I never ever thought I'd be running times like this in March, in fact my aim at the start of the year was to get back in the 25's before the year was out, it's not yet April and I've just dipped into the 24's!

Running with a buggy is proving to be great training! I most definitely have the post parkrun glow today Smile

Hope everyone enjoyed their runs as much as I did today Grin

chutneypig · 25/03/2017 14:16

Well done Really and Empress!

That's brilliant MyBlackCat you're on a roll.

We were thinking about Trellissick when we're down Thursday what's the course like? I'm guessing a bit flatter Grin

Hope the Bushy posse had fun.

DD and I didn't run today as we've got colds. Was tempted but I've got a half in a couple of weeks and if it lingers it'll really throw things. DS and DH both got PBs, DS equalled his overall parkrun PB. He's currently in negotiation for juniors tomorrow as he thinks he's on form and wants to get under 8 minutes Grin. His sister on the other hand wants to make me breakfast in bed!

feetheart · 25/03/2017 17:39

Glorious day for a parkrun, even better for a parkrun with deer (but no cows!) and 1211 other people Shock
Bushy is an amazing experience, you can feel the ground move as the runners start, it really feels like a stampede.
Met up with cinnamon before the start, following the superb text 'I can see Wonder Woman' :) Had a lovely chat before and then in the cafe afterwards.
DS was delighted to get token 900 and I got to accost a runner with a 500 t-shirt and have a photo with him Grin

MelanieCheeks · 25/03/2017 19:18

Lucky DS! I was token number 90 today - event number 36, and a missing letter T from my complete alphabet. And wasn't teh weather fabulous! Hope it stays for tomorrow's Waggy Races up on the North Coast at Portstewart.

ThursdayLastWeek · 26/03/2017 07:39

I can see Wonder Woman Grin

Is a PB still a PB if it isn't at your 'home' course? How do you all feel about that'? Personally I'm going to say yes because I got one yesterday!

Chutney its a very different course to Lanhydrock - in fact it feels more like other parkruns ive been too. A bit more like a 5k route shoe horned into a space IYSWIM. It reads down to approx a mile of well maintained trail, then a mile around a field (steep incline, then glorious decline!) then back along the trail for another mile - uphill finish though. Cruel!

ThursdayLastWeek · 26/03/2017 07:40

And yes Empress if you've heard of the books at all then you've git my username Smile I've still not forgiven the post I've never seen who took ThursdayNext

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/03/2017 07:44

Grin I was EmpressOfJurisfiction for a while. I've seen quite a few variations on ThursdayNext.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/03/2017 09:02

Well done EmpressoftheSparticusOceans! The first one is always the hardest.

Brilliant time MyBlackCat!

Waves back to FiftyNineOhEight!

A year off must be tough ineedmoresleep, well done for getting back!

Feel better soon ChutneyPig!

Bushy was awesome! The park is massive! Like a small village in itself. Amazingly friendly volunteers considering they must get the same things said to them from all the visitors every week. Although there were quite a few bushy apricot tops so I'm guessing they have quite a few regulars too. Fabulously well organised and a great selection in the cafe afterwards. We chose the most beautiful day for it too, well feetheart did and it was lovely to finally meet and chat and your ds is just lovely too.

cinnamongreyhound · 26/03/2017 09:06

Waggy races sounds interesting MelanieCheeks!

I think parkrun wise your pb is for a particular course ThursdayLastWeek, but a 5k pb is a pb no matter where you run it. My 5k pb is 24:59 but I will never run that at my parkrun!

reallyneedmoresleep · 26/03/2017 11:01

Feet, I was explaining to 8 yr old DS how impressive it was to have a 250 t shirt. He saw a runner wearing a 2014 Bupa London Run shirt and said "wow mum! Look he's done 2014 parkrun!"

MelanieCheeks · 27/03/2017 07:28

There'll be a piece on the Waggy Races on the Norn Irn news today. As it was Mothers Day I wore a "Fairy Dogmother" costume, and ran the whole thing complete with wings, wand and tiara, casting "acceleramus" spells as I ran Star

chutneypig · 28/03/2017 06:43

I definitely view PBs as course specific, I need to take what I can get Grin. I'm not sure I like an uphill finish Thursday the downhill is one of my favourite bits at Lanhydrock!

Love the Fairydogmother Melanie!

Bushy is a phenomenon, we're hoping to get back there this year.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/03/2017 16:40

I googled MelanieCheeks, how lovely. Wish there were more doggy races here.

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/03/2017 07:38

Yeah, in my head I know it won't be a real PB until I get it at Lanhydrock, but as I visit Trelissick semi-regularly im going to take it! I need all the motivation I can get!

randomsabreuse · 29/03/2017 07:57

For me pb is per course as they are all so different. One of my locals (technically home) is very conditions dependent - a time set it dry weather will be hard to beat most of the year. My Parkrun best was set on a completely flat course at my first parkrun off limited recent training. Trail parkruns will generally be slower than tarmac etc and obviously uphill finishes will kill the final kick!

ThursdayLastWeek · 29/03/2017 14:36

I know what you mean random - I gave a 25 min PB at Southend parkrun. There's practically nowhere I can reproduce such a flat course around here.

Anyways, all progress is progress Smile

MelanieCheeks · 29/03/2017 18:16

PB is defintiely course specific. I always remind myself on the first visit anywhere not to knock myself out, so that I've a chance of a PB on a future visit.

Had to wipe away a tear of pride today - my son is visiting next week, and has agreed to come parkruning with me, so I had to print out his barcode. sniff.

shortaris1 · 01/04/2017 08:28

Morning all, mind if I join. Did my first park run last week. Super slow 40:22 as it was a hot day and I wasn't prepared but everyone was so nice I'm going back this morning.

I recognise empress from the bridge to 10k thread. Hello!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/04/2017 08:46

Hello Short!

No Parkrun for me today, I got to the station to find the trains were buggered & I couldn't get there until 9.30. So I'm sitting in Costa in my running gear & I'll do a 10K tomorrow.

Good luck everyone!

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/04/2017 13:06

Welcome short - the goodness thing about taking it easy on your first time is that hopefully today you'll get a PB! I hope you enjoyed it again.

What a pity Empress.

I was back at Lanhydrock this morning and felt pretty good actually - my time by my watch wasn't the quickest I've run it since getting pregnant so I'm pleased to finally see some progress! I added a few more miles by jogging back to the car, fetching the dog and exploring the trails a bit more. Was a lovely morning for it.

I have to take next week off due to inconsiderate DS1 having a birthday but Easter weekend will be number 100 wohoo!

MyBlackCat · 01/04/2017 17:28

Well done everyone on their runs today Smile

After last weeks exploits I planned to try and take it steady today. There must be something about relaxed running as I took another 45 secs off my time Confused I'm now within 30 secs of my all time PB which I never thought I'd get close too. The new aim is to see those two magical letters next to my name before the year is out, along with my 100 t-shirt and cow cowl Grin
thursday you are soooo close the black t-shirt, I still have 22 to go!

MelanieCheeks · 01/04/2017 17:45

Well done all! I marshalled at Stormont, which was running their course in reverse, so they needed extra arms pointing the right direction at various intersections and junctions.

GailLondon · 01/04/2017 17:53

Hi everyone, I'm new to the thread and today was my 4th ever parkrun, at Walthamstow, London. My pb from last week was 34:02, and I'm desperately waiting to see if I've beaten the 34min barrier today. Unfortunately our run director's laptop has broken and they haven't been able to put the results up yet!

reallyneedmoresleep · 01/04/2017 17:55

Well done runners. I knocked 90 seconds off last week's time today, feeling very pleased although a bit achey now. Would love to get under half an hour by the end of the year.

ThursdayLastWeek · 01/04/2017 18:18

Sounds like fun Melanie, they've done that at Lanhydrock a few times too - it's a killer!

I had a pbpb too Black, by over a minute! Delighted - especially as I didn't even feel totally like death at the end Grin. Must be all my other miles helping me.
