Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Good luck today parkrunners! I'm off for my 7th parkrun today.
Current PB is 32:40, my ultimate goal is to crack 30 minutes one day!

DeepfriedPizza · 22/04/2017 07:16

Our director is doing 10 "parkruns" today. He's going round all the courses locally and running their courses. He's doing ours live so it will be good fun.

GailLondon · 22/04/2017 11:09

32:24 today in the drizzle, a new pb!
How did everyone get on?

megletthesecond · 22/04/2017 12:06

Can I have a small tantrum about missing my PB by 4 seconds . I knew it was close but not that close. I even loosened my sports bra while running so my ribs could breathe properly and thought that would help.

Well done gail!

MelanieCheeks · 22/04/2017 13:32

The tide was out, and I got a Parents Bravo-ing, Pleasantly Breezy, Pooch-Boosted, Portrush Beach PB!

MyBlackCat · 22/04/2017 15:57

Well done on all the pb's. I did a tourist run at Braunstone today, my first run there so technically a PB right? They had pacers so I thought I'd try and follow the 25min man, he misjudged the pace a bit so I was well under the 25 at the end and feeling smug Smile

MelanieCheeks · 22/04/2017 16:10

Run Minnie run

feetheart · 22/04/2017 17:57

Well done Minnie and we loved the video Grin
Portrush is still my favourite parkrun (closely followed by Sherwood Pines) but nice to see glimpses of the other Norn Irn ones. Aiming to do Stormont next time we are over.

I ran today with DS and a friend who is running London tomorrow so it was a lovely gentle pootle. Our gold DofE volunteer did his first stint as RD today and was brilliant. It is lovely to see how much his confidence has grown over the last 10 months and I may have been a little emotional!
Nice to see Halle too. Hoping she might switch her allegiance now :)

MelanieCheeks · 22/04/2017 18:21

Who's Halle? You may need to PM me!

Stormont is a lovely run, but there's no real buns socialising after.

Colin Glen has a reputation as a hilly one, but it's one of my favourites - low numbers, one lap, through lovely forest, and an indoors cafe which always has buns, and loos, and chatty volunteers.

reallyneedmoresleep · 23/04/2017 09:23

I managed to run (slowly) round my parkrun without stopping yesterday although as there were nearly 600 of us there were a few points where congestion slowed us down a little (damn!)
We're camping in Norfolk next week and would love to do a tourist parkrun. Has anyone done Sheringham parkrun? Am a little concerned by the course description which mentions "a sting in the tail"!!!!

mariomadmum · 23/04/2017 10:41

standingonlego I was there for Bobs 250th! My first PR in almost 3 years and I did it in 37.19 Grin

standingonlego · 23/04/2017 13:44

Welcome back mariomadmum, a great time for get restarted on.

It was a lovely morning, made me all emotional !

standingonlego · 23/04/2017 14:26

Meanwhile in London our other parkrun royalty veteran Gerald (79) is going well in the marathon - 2.27 at halfway 😊

standingonlego · 23/04/2017 14:27

Just also been told 250 Bob ran the first London marathon in 1981 Smile

DeepfriedPizza · 23/04/2017 18:20

I got a PB yesterday too. 28.54

mariomadmum · 23/04/2017 18:45

Yes Gerald did well in the London marathon today didn't he? Wasn't it 5.30 in the end? Makes me feel all proud even though I don't know him personally!

sniffle12 · 23/04/2017 19:31

We did an alternative route at home parkrun yesterday that was faster and I got a PB by such an extent I think I'm never going to be able to beat it on the normal course now which is annoying!

Cancelled next week so will have to be a tourist for the first time. I believe the course I intend to go to is also faster, so if you beat your PB whilst elsewhere, does the Parkrun 'system' still remember your PB on your home course?

cinnamongreyhound · 23/04/2017 22:47

It's beautiful reallyneedmoresleep but it does have a killer hill at the end! It's known at our parkrun as heartbreak hill but worth it I'm told.

MyBlackCat · 24/04/2017 08:05

sniffle all PBs are course specific as they are all different. You will be recorded as a first timer for any new course you run and that time will be set as your course PB. The next time you run there you can try and beat it for a new course PB Grin

reallyneedmoresleep · 24/04/2017 08:43

Thanks Cinnamon! ( I think).

MelanieCheeks · 24/04/2017 17:47

Yes, the trick is not to knock yourself out on your first visit anywhere - leave it within your capailities to revisit and get those highly prized letters!

MyBlackCat · 24/04/2017 19:49

I made that mistake this week - I can never go back to Braunstone, I've no chance of beating my time Confused

DeepfriedPizza · 25/04/2017 12:41

I've volunteered as tribute Marshall this week. Next week is pacer week so looking forward to that.

MelanieCheeks · 25/04/2017 18:02

I'm for my native city of Derry this week, It's their 200th, and they are hoping for 200 runners.

Loved the video footage of Bob, what an inspiration!

MyBlackCat · 25/04/2017 20:05

I'm considering some solo tourism this weekend, I usually tourist with a friend.

The shortlist is Newark, Belton House or Rutland Water.... anyone done any of these and have any recommendations?
