Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Hi shortaris1 and GailLondon!

Well done ThursdayLastWeek and MyBlackCat! I'm pretty terrified my ds3 is 2 in a week!!!!

Well done reallyneedmoresleep!

I took new dog again and she was a pain in the bum as we took little dog and my friend ran with her but we got separated at the start so she spent the whole time looking for her and as I could see them she refused to run, 2 walking sessions, a wee and being terrified by a man passing us meant a time of 31:49 but we had fun!

I had a bit of a parkrun wobble tbh, some 'helpful' person collected the signs that I keep at my house last week and didn't let anyone know so we didn't have them, one was put out Saturday morning and the other is somewhere at the country park so we needed an extra marshal. It annoyed me even though I know people are being helpful. I said we could mention it at the briefing so runners know we have the signs under control and some weeks we may collect them a little later but the new co-ed shrugged it off. I felt like a proper grump but also they have been less than pro-active since they took over and they're good friends. I have to stop myself doing/saying things as I don't want to step on their toes. And then I started to feel unreasonably annoyed that no one actually thanked me for being ed for 2.5years. The original ed got a gift at the first birthday but I got nothing any time and I know you don't do it for the gift or should expect it but I was feeling unreasonable. By the end of the run I was thinking I may step down as rd to save my friendships there and leave the chat group so I don't have anything to do with organising but then I feel I'm going to make more trouble. We than made all the new signs together and it was a lovely happy moment but I just don't know what's best for me. It's really hard having been in charge and now not as they're very different to me as much as I love them. Sorry to blather on, you guys don't really need to hear me empty my brain!!!

ThursdayLastWeek · 03/04/2017 07:30

I think that a) 2.5 years is a more than generous stint and b) parkrun shouldn't give you stress so if you want to step down then go for it Cinnamon.

shortaris1 · 04/04/2017 07:49

I'm with Thursday Cinammon parkrun should be a nice thing
No idea about times for Saturday as I must have dropped my barcode when I was paying the taxi driver. I could have cried as it was hard going!
There's always next week.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/04/2017 09:41

Sorry for my long moaning ramble! I blame hormones! Got a really busy weekend but hoping to squeeze in a parkrun!

MyBlackCat · 07/04/2017 20:15

Where are people running tomorrow? I'm planing some tourism at sherwood pines. However I've strained my glute so it will be a very gentle plod round with a friend.

RadiatorWatch · 07/04/2017 20:16

So glad I have found this thread alive and well! I've been searching park running threads and they all seem to be a couple of years old.
I'm doing my first ever park run tomorrow! Eeeek.

MelanieCheeks · 08/04/2017 07:12

Fabulous, Radiator! My son will also be doing his first today, with me at Colin Glen.

AuntieStella · 08/04/2017 07:32

Morning! I'm visiting family, so hoping to be a tourist today. I've had some calf problems, but have slathered it in warning oil, and the course description looks flat, so I'm giving it a whirl.

MyBlackCat · 08/04/2017 19:40

Hope you enjoyed your first run radiator Smile

I really enjoyed my plod around sherwood pines, my first one lap course, hopefully I can go back fully fit to run it properly soon.

RadiatorWatch · 08/04/2017 20:09

Thanks MyBlackCat, I had a great time.
It was such a friendly atmosphere, and there was lots of encouragement. I'd recommend them to everyone.

cinnamongreyhound · 08/04/2017 22:11

Brilliant RadiatorWatch!

Did your ds do it MelanieCheeks?

I ran my best time this year with new dog, she pulled some and didnt some but only stopped twice to try and get to a random dog so lots better!

ThursdayLastWeek · 09/04/2017 08:18

Well done Cinnamon!

Very literal pines there BlackCat Grin

Well done Radiator, getting out there the first time is a real achievement.

I had to postpone my 100th due to throwing The Party Of The Year (i.e. 4th birthday party in the village hall Grin).
I'm really looking forward to next week now!

feetheart · 09/04/2017 08:28

Sherwood Pines in a gorgeous course, we ran it on a damp February morning and every step smelt amazing.

Well done RadiatorWatch, looks like the Saturday morning addiction is off to a good start :)
Beware of those old threads, it was one of those that spurred me on to set up a more local parkrun and we turn 2 next week Shock

Volunteering yesterday as I have my first race of the year today - a nice local 10k. We managed to get 313 runners through the funnel with NO ISSUES apart from a dodgy stopwatch so results were done by 10:30am. Very smug funnel team :)

Well done everyone else. Did your son enjoy his first parkrun Melanie?

shortaris1 · 09/04/2017 16:13

Lovely run yesterday. Still slow at 36:11 but much better than 40:22 last time!

Sherwood pines looks lovely.

MelanieCheeks · 09/04/2017 21:31

DS getting a kiss from the volunteer scanning his barcode. He managed position 17, and a time of 26 mins, at a record breaking attendance at Colin Glen. Lots of freinds, and support, and cake.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/04/2017 08:40

Brilliant, well done everyone!

MyBlackCat · 14/04/2017 19:52

A photo I took at sherwood pines last week was used by parkrun uk on their Facebook page today - my friend had tweeted it Smile

shortaris1 · 14/04/2017 20:18

Ah nice Myblackcat. Who's running tomorrow?

runningpink · 14/04/2017 21:59

Me! It's our parkruns 2nd birthday tomorrow so lots of excitement. Think it will be a busy one.

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/04/2017 07:13

Yayayayayayayayayaya today is my 100th! I'm so excited to order my black t shirt!

MelanieCheeks · 15/04/2017 07:35

Fab, Thursday, have a good one!

Another run with DS today before he flies home - off to Bangor this week. I have a slight chance of scraping a PB, if all goes well, but this is quite a busy one with narrow twisty paths, so it can be hard to get a good clear run with the dog.

AuntieStella · 15/04/2017 11:16

New PB!

And have people seen this?

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39604630

The government is looking at putting regulations on permitted charges by local councils for use of parks - essentially making it illegal (as currently described) to charge Parkrun or Parkrunners.

reallyneedmoresleep · 15/04/2017 11:16

Well done Thursday!
I managed to run (slowly) all the way round for the first time since breaking my leg. So happy!

ThursdayLastWeek · 15/04/2017 13:25

Thank you everyone, I took a friend to her first parkrun today - it felt quite cool, like a full circle type scenario Smile

She was would have been loads faster than me of she hadn't stuck with me though! She made it look easy Maybe one day I'll hit the dizzy heights of unde 30 mins again.

Has everyone else had a good one?
Super dooper busy thanks to the Easter hols too.

randomsabreuse · 15/04/2017 13:28

PB for me (course). Unexpected really but my main achievement was running the whole thing up all the hills as the slippery slidey one was a bit drier!

Need a new barcode - mine has died. Can't decide between wristband and credit card ones (or both...). Obviously can print again but my 6 only seem to have lasted 8 runs which is rubbish!
