Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Deepfriedpizza each time someone crosses the line the stop watch registers a time so if you're 10th over the line you will be the 10th time registered on the watch. You then take the 10th token and when you get scanned the scanner links your barcode with 10th position. When we upload the files from both the scanner and stopwatch, the program put the 10th time with the 10th paotion and therefore person. Very clever little system.

Wow feetheart that's brilliant!

Lifeisabeach · 14/03/2017 21:11

We (OH, DS1, DD and I) all ran together this week in our matching 50 tops! We were meant to be going slowly as OH and I had a 10k on Sunday, but we finished in 32 mins, which is DD's second best time.

No parkrun for us this Sat as OH and DS1 are doing the Bath duathlon. It'll be the first one I've missed this year and it feels all wrong!

Hello everyone!

Dedicated parkrunner, an intermitant MNer.

I did some lovely tourism at Stamford Park parkrun this weekend, very friendly locals and course easier than my home one! Sneaked in under 30minutes for the first time in goodness knows how long.

Only four more to go until later I hit 100!

MelanieCheeks · 17/03/2017 06:25

Ooooh, not long, Thursday!

I'm doing tail runner this week. It's our 200th event and I've oly run at 86 of those, which shows just how much touristing I've done!

MyBlackCat · 17/03/2017 19:43

Hi thursday!

I'm back at my home run this week, taking a friend for just her 2nd parkrun. Did my first buggy run this week but think my parkrun course is a little too bumpy for that at the moment Shock

chutney have you seen the changes to the start/finish at your home run?

chutneypig · 18/03/2017 06:50

Hello Thursday! I think most courses are easier than yours Grin

It's caused much excitement in our house MyBlackCat! Very sensible decision I think given how big it's gotten. Thanks for the heads up as well Smile we can get a bit tight for time of a morning and if we hadn't seen it it....

Enjoy the tail running Melanie and the duathlon Life

After posting on this thread about 6 months ago, saying I was about ready to try a Parkrun, I've finally done it!

Very friendly, but course involved hills (which I am not used to) so it felt like pretty hard work in places

ThursdayLastWeek · 18/03/2017 13:59

Thanks everyone! Survived another week, that's 97 done now eeeeeeeeee exciting!

Well done AuntieStella, working up the confidence and motivation for the first one is difficult. I hope you're pleased with your time?

I think I'm going to start doing some actual training (perish the thought) to get faster.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/03/2017 14:07

Ran at home today as my friend who is now co-ED is having a hysterectomy on Monday. She was very emotional but it was a good run. Took my newest dog with me for the first time. When she was in front I was doing 8.45min miles when she was sniffing and behind me watching other people it was more like 10.45!

AuntieStella · 18/03/2017 16:43

Time was OK - a bit slower than my fastest (as recorded on Runkeeper), but perhaps when I'm a bit more used to hills that'll improve.

I looked at that percentage thingy as well, the one where they take your age into account, and it was about 55% which is surprisingly heartening.

QuestaVecchiaCasa · 18/03/2017 17:10

Well done AuntieStella for taking on your first parkrun - especially one with hills.

By the way, I too love those age percentage thingies. I tell myself that if I was a man of the same age I would be doing it nearly 5 minutes faster!

Incidentally (and sorry to be a bit controversial on this lovely parkrun thread) it occurred to me reading one of those Trans threads that the women's percentages may subtly change over time if runners are able to self-identify as women. I would be a bit sad about that if they do because I have enjoyed being able to benchmark my progress and the percentages are a good way to do it.

Anyway keep up the good work on this thread and out at all our lovely parkruns everyone. I love reading what everyone is getting up to even though I rarely post myself.

yellow6 · 19/03/2017 00:29

nope thats not how age grading works its done on an approximate percentage of world record time for that age group

QuestaVecchiaCasa · 19/03/2017 10:25

yellow6 but its not beyond the bounds of possibilities that the new women's world record holders for each age group may not have been born in a woman's body.

Different sport but...

feetheart · 20/03/2017 11:25

halle - did you make it? It was hard to spot people amongst the 355 runners (breaking the previous record by 25 again Shock) We seem to have jumped from 250 to 350 scarily quickly!
There were also a LOT of animal costumes and a LOT of cake - perfect parkrun morning ignores results processing challenge Grin

Thursday - hello again and well done on under 30mins. SO close to 100 now :)

Melanie - well done on 200 events (even if you have been 'missing in action' for lots of them!)

Yay AuntieStella well done. The hills will slow you down to start with but build up your stamina too and now you have a time to aim for :)

feetheart · 22/03/2017 22:31

Road trip to Bushy this Saturday is definitely on - DS and I will be there, with birthday cake, for a friend who is running all the Greater London parkruns for our local hospice and is doing this one on the eve of his 50th birthday.
He should be easy to spot as he's 6'4" and will be dressed as Wonder Woman Shock DS and I less so!
If anyone fancies joining us it would be lovely.

cinnamongreyhound · 23/03/2017 17:47

I will be there feetheart not sure how to find you though as it's huuuuuuuuuge compared to my little parkrun! My phone says it's 2hrs 15 driving Confused

feetheart · 24/03/2017 16:39

cinnamon - it's HUGE compared with most people's parkruns :)
I've PMed you. There should be about 10 of us from our parkrun though I'm not sure how many have the apricot tops.

ThursdayLastWeek · 24/03/2017 21:09

I accidentally did Bushy on the 11th parkrun anniversary and it was maaaaaaaassssivvvveeeeee. I think there were more people at that parkrun then there are in Cornwall! In winter at least.

Since I was last in this thread another Cornish parkrun has started up that's local to me hurrah! It's not as nice as Lanhydrock (though I am biased) but it's nice to have some choice of a Saturday morning.

FiftyNineOhEight · 25/03/2017 07:58

Very envious of the Bushy visitors today - hope you find each other Smile

Sorry I have dropped off the thread recently. I have missed a few Saturdays thanks to work and other stuff going on, but hope to be back next week.

Waves to all, I will catch up properly later.

Hello Parkrunners!
Just over a year ago I had a stress fracture which cracked the length of my femur (oww)
I've finally, finally started running again and am about to head off on my first parkrun since last February. Wish me luck!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/03/2017 10:07

Good luck, Really!

I did my first Parkrun today at Southwark. The people were lovely and I'll be going again. There was Cake but no cows. Should there have been?

ThursdayLastWeek · 25/03/2017 10:26

Hello FiftyNine!

Well done and good luck Really how'd it go?

And well done Empress - I don't think cows are obligatory Wink would you usually expect them there?

I went to Trelissick today and had a really good run. Tried to keep myself just on the hard side of effort and came in well under 30 mins by my watch - I don't think I was synchronised with the time keepers though.

Glorious morning here Smile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/03/2017 11:01

Thanks Thursday! (Great name by the way, if I've got the reference right). Under 30 mins is really impressive.

No, there would only have been cows there if they were brought in specially. Grin

reallyneedmoresleep · 25/03/2017 11:27

I did it! Very slow : 36.56 and I thought I might die but I did it. As D-ream once sang; things can only get better..
Beautiful day here. 😀
