Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

I am hungover not feeling 100% today so just going to jog round with a friend and get breakfast after Grin

swampytiggaa · 20/08/2016 08:27

It's smallest child's birthday today. Have just had coffee and 2 cinnamon swirls. She is settled watching crap on the TV so I will be heading out to parkrun in the wind and rain in a bit. It's properly wild down here in 'sunny' Devon lol.

Will report back later!

MelanieCheeks · 20/08/2016 11:05

Oh I was a good little parkrunner this rainy morning! Paced to bang on 32 (Well, I got to the finish line with about 20 secs to spare, cheered a few people behind me over, before stepping gracefully across at 32 dead Wink)

Then there was the foto-call for the new centurions, so I whipped off my 100 tshirt to act as a stunt shirt.
And I said hello to all the doggies.
And afterwards I drove one of our regulars home as it had started raining.

We welcomed a South African visitor this morning - they usually start at 8 am!

How'd everyone else get on?

swampytiggaa · 20/08/2016 11:51

Cold and wet but finished in 31.26 which is a minute slower than pb but it was so windy I ended up walking a few times. Fastest I have done since injury tho so pleased with that.

Not many people ran today tho :( I came in at 58 out of 65

chutneypig · 20/08/2016 13:24

I like your style Melanie and well done for getting so close.

Fairly wet and quite windy run for us but I got a shout out Grin. Within sight of my PB but not so close to be frustrated, pretty pleased given the weather. And I was second in my age category, usually I'm in double digits. No idea what happened to everyone else, I guess there must be a run on somewhere. But I'll take it Grin

Good new on the post injury improvement swampy.

How'd it go lastqueen?

swampytiggaa · 20/08/2016 14:00

I will be running with my friend again from next week working on getting her pb down. She is aiming for sub 30 by Christmas which works for me :)

Well done everyone who took part today. The weather here was so foul I think running was an easier option than volunteering!

0ellenbrody0 · 20/08/2016 19:04

Ran with DD again today. 1 min behind pb, but pleased with time. So windy though, we run round a lake and the wind coming off it straight into my face was harsh!
Fastest person round sub 16 Shock
It's a 2 lap course and I was just starting my second lap when I heard cheering, glanced up to finishing tunnel and saw him zooming through - wow. I'll be pleased when I finally get a sub 30!
Put my name down to volunteer again in a couple of weeks time.

Blatherskite · 20/08/2016 19:05

Took DS to MK this morning. While I was chatting to this week's RD, some tourists came and introduced themselves from Brandon Country Park parkrun :D

I said "I know one of the RDs from there! then had to backpedal furiously as they asked me her name and I could hardly give out Mumsnet usernames!!

Managed one sub 10 minute mile which made me happy. Sure it was just one and I'd already slowed down before DS complained of stitch but one is better than nothing and makes me feel like I'm improving again slowly.

MelanieCheeks · 20/08/2016 19:08

I got the date of stormonts birthday wrong, and it's actually NEXT week, and my home event isn't on. So paws crossed, Minnie and I will be revisiting that one. Hhmmmm, what to wear -matching black 100 tshirts, or apricot home run tribe sport top with matching bow?

Teaandcakeat8 · 20/08/2016 19:09

I am joining in and place marking!

Dragged myself out of bed this morning for my first park run in a while.

Managed a 26.57 although it was seriously wet and windy.

Freshprincess · 20/08/2016 19:19

Just dropping a huge not-very-stealthy boast, but I did sub 30 for first time ever. Been running for years, just plodding along on my own. Not really interested in times till I started Park Run.
Having a chippy tea to celebrate.

Blatherskite · 20/08/2016 19:39

Well done freshprincess. You definitely deserve it

PurplePidjin · 20/08/2016 20:49

Wow some awesome times here, well done folks!

I managed 53:11. Which is shit. But 18 minute miles carrying a 21lb toddler ony back isn't too shabby according to dh. And it's 2:40 quicker than last time.

Ds managed his first where he properly concentrated, no random drifting off to look at the pretty leaf etc. Unfortunately the lure of playing with the other kids (at the invitation of the nearby adults) meant he only ran laps 1, 2 and 4. But I bought him a whizz popping bfg toy anyway because I wanted one

MyBlackCat · 20/08/2016 22:21

I was back at my home run for first time in a few weeks, DH came with me and made sure I was up the hill on 2nd lap before speeding off. Was just outside 30 minutes which I've decided for 5.5 months pregnant is quite good Smile

Well done to everyone who ran today Grin

swampytiggaa · 21/08/2016 12:28

Just back from junior parkrun :) smallest ran the course in 17.50 and came in number 105 out of 111. I was marshalling so cheering everyone on :)

Think I am on 23 volunteers now which isn't bad as I only got involved in parkrun in April ;)

feetheart · 22/08/2016 12:51

Slightly late but DS and I were Tail Runners at Fell Foot parkrun in the rainy Lake District on Saturday. The course was changed due to the National Stone Skimming Championships so everyone had a course PB. Very strange to be at a parkrun where the tourists outnumbered the locals :)
Got to chat to RDs from Cambridge and Conwy in the cafe and exchange hints and tips. Bored DH and DD rigid though so couldn't stay for too long. Stone Skimming was impressive, though wet!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/08/2016 10:44

Yay for your 50th chutneypig!

How cool blatherskite, I wasn't around this week so didn't notice any regulars who weren't there! Ok have been to your results and seen who it was, they're lovely! Their nephew goes to school wih dss Smile

I don't want to hear that again purplepidjin!!!! You got out there and did it and that's great! Time is irrelevant it's all about taking part and everyone has their own battles when it comes to parkrun, a toddler is certainly a tough one to deal with! I wish mine would come along but then I also it's nice to have that time to myself!

We stayed away Friday night and although I tried to persuade dh to let me leave him in bed and run bury st Edmunds then come back and go download breakfast he wouldn't have any of it! As it was we were woken at 7.30 by someone emptying glass into something Angry so I could have gone but had no gear at that point. Missed my weekly parkrun fix!

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2016 08:34

Thanks cinnamon 18 minute miles just sound a bit slow compared to dh's 6 and 7 minute ones Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 24/08/2016 12:19

It would be no fun if we all ran at the same speed Wink

londonmummy1966 · 24/08/2016 15:56

Just back - well done chutney 10x more park runs than me....

I had a fab run as a tourist in the Forest of Dean - a really lovely course on forest trails. I really recommend it to anyone in that neck of the woods. What was really great was that the Forestry Commission has put up markers all along the course to show which way to go. Wouldn't it be brilliant if more parkruns had permanent markers so every one visiting a parkrun park would know there was a marked out 5k to follow.....

fluffiphlox · 24/08/2016 17:48

Did my first one last Saturday. I'm 58. I did just over 42 minutes.

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2016 18:59

Awesome stuff, fluffiphlox!

fluffiphlox · 24/08/2016 20:04

I was last!

MelanieCheeks · 24/08/2016 21:00

Hey, there's more to running than going fast!

I've discovered there's a San Francisco parkrun (and I'll be in that area next summer.....)

Since it's the last one to be run as the Earth rotates, there's a bit of competition for who can be last at it, and so be the last parkrunner in the world that day.

PurplePidjin · 24/08/2016 21:26

Still faster than the lazy folk with their arses still in bed 😴
