Welcome to the thread needastrongone. I can't imagine 4 years off running, 2 weeks injured and I'm tearing my hair out. Build up your training slowly and you will be back to fitness sooner than you think. Re losing a few pounds, just make sure you don't eat more now you are running, drink lots of water (often when you feel hungry it is dehydration) and eat the right things. I often fast if I need to lose a couple of pounds, but it isn't for everyone (I can run at least 25kms in a fasted state but I'm used to doing it).
Keyser how did your friend get on with the UTMB? There was a new female record set, it wasn't her by any chance? I've decided not to do my 75km ultra end of October, after my injury I haven't had enough chance to train properly. Will aim for a marathon or long trail race in Spring instead. It's just nice to be running again and enjoying it.
Good luck with your HM on Sunday emummy I hope your cold stays away.
70 miles to add from the last 2 weeks, lots of running in the dark as I go out before work, I've invested in a new head lamp so I hope I'll be able to see the tree roots and branches now, my old lamp is next to useless for country footpaths.

Anglaise She did really well- thanks for asking - 15th in the women's and 8th in the veterans. Not bad considering she's not a pro. She came 5th at Laveredo and won STY at UTMF but as that got commuted to 26k it probably doesn't count :-).

stilllearnin sorry things are still tough and hope the cold holds off for you emummy.

Did a 20k trail run with 1000m of climbing last night with a friend. Didn't want to go but glad I did. Felt like I found some sort of form for the first time in months where my running felt quite comfortable. Not dreading my 30k race so much now. Saw a bamboo snake and a few porcupines.

Hi all and thanks for your best wishes. 13.5 miles today and going great guns - only slowed down on the last mile and so I think I am ready for the HM in 2 weeks.

13.5 (just remembered in time we are in a new month!!!)

lastqueenofscotland · 01/10/2016 18:36

Starting the month off with 3.1 parkrun miles.

Managed to come 8th lady Shock

5 from me this afternoon. Bit hungover after my friend's 40th last night but staggered round a fairly benign trail and feel better for it

Btw, has anyone else been following this Rob Young (aka Marathon Man) thing? Seems he basically spent a lot of time on his trans-US world record effort in the RV rather than running. It has made me wonder how many of his other achievements aren't quite as they seem- like did he really do the daily 4am marathons round Richmond Park?. All very odd.

Another 10k race done this morning, slower time but that was in part down to the course being hilly and muddy!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/10/2016 19:34

Well done stilllearnin!

Well done Sirzy!

My 10k was actually 6.85 miles and when on firm sand into a a huge head wind and when out of the wind the sand was very deep! First run I've done I think we're my legs struggled more than my lungs! 34.45

Gosh cinnamon that sounds like hard work, well done!

My hm is done! Thanks for the anti-cold vibes, they worked! Survived today, slower than I would have liked but it was really tough. The track was very rough and we had to run through several streams! The weather was stunning so the route was beautiful. All in all, a really tough, really fantastic race. Highlight was coming down the last hill to a fantastic view of Ben Nevis.

Can a newbie join in?

I'm just completing C25K, and don't really like running! But it's the thing I can fit in to RL and I think I need to talk about it to help me stick with it.

But I am in awe of the amount people have run and feel miles (no pun intended) from it.

I'm assuming the figures at the end of posts are monthly cumulative totals in miles?

In which case, my September was a puny 29 and October so far is 2

emummy · 02/10/2016 20:29

Welcome AuntieStella, all sorts of runners are welcome here!
Just add your run total to the previous one, so your 2 makes our October total 49.55 so far.
We are a friendly bunch, doing all sorts of different speeds and distances.

AuntieStella · 02/10/2016 20:59

Thanks emummy - that's far less daunting!

I imagined people in training for ultra marathons who were running those miles and miles all by themselves...

I track with Runkeeper, and aim to run 3 miles 3x a week, plus maybe do another run at the weekend. Which today was running with DH who, I must confess, I'm finding irritating as a running partner already.

emummy · 02/10/2016 21:15

My Dh runs faster than me but over shorter distances. I always feel like I'm in a race running with him! I tend to go on my own!

LaughingM · 02/10/2016 22:09

Congratulations on you races cinnamon, sirzy and emummy (and anyone I've left off - sorry!

Cinnamon I can't even imagine running one kilometre on sand, let alone 10 - kudos!! And emummy that looks stunning, although course sounds really tough at points.

Welcome auntie - lots of us started off on c25k I think, it's a great journey!

I had a crap end to September running after DNFing my 10k last sunday Sad. Had a weird experience where I got a really bad headache the second I started running. Pushed through to 5k but just couldn't face the second lap. Felt really rubbish about it afterwards though. October has been much better so far (yes, I know it's only day 2!) but with 2.5 tempo miles last night and 9 slow and steady ones today I'm feeling much better!

AuntieStella · 03/10/2016 08:08

This is my last week of C25K!

64.28

DH claims he can run at a pace much faster than mine, but now I run with him sometimes I'm not so sure that's quite right. I just think he gets in the way (at least once per run, plus an occasional actual collision)

KeyserSophie · 03/10/2016 12:55

Adding a 5 miler from tonight. Got in from work, got changed immediately and headed out before I could change my mind. It's still so bloody hot and humid.

Laughing Bad luck on the DNF. Always crappy to have that happen. Put it behind you and move on.

Glad you've had a couple of good runs since you didn't finish LaughinM, could just be hydration wasn't good that day.

Hello. Checking back in. I went AWOL due to DD's sporting habit. Said sporting habit kept us away all weekend and meant I haven't run for 3 days.

However, her season is completed now so that hopefully should be a blip.

Just 3 miles to log tonight as I do a long day on Mondays. But 3 miles is better than no miles. Tomorrow will be tricky as I am working all day and have a meeting in the evening but hope to fit in similar at the very least.

I will keep up and read back fully from now, as I hate a 'me, me, me' post usually.

ouch cinnamon.
And welcome autniestella - I started on C25k and I still use the C25k+ podcasts - give them a try. I occasionally run with other people and I dont really like it that much although I am super sociable and will meet up with anyone for anything outside of running!.

I have 3.1 from yesterday. I think I need some new socks - my ancient aldi ones are not cutting it any more. Any recommendations? Its my toes that bother me.

79.38

emummy · 04/10/2016 10:40

Easy short run this morning, hips a bit stiff after Sunday. Felt nice to be out, Dh came too and behaved himself, running nice and slow!
For socks I have some lovely Hilly pairs, including one pair where the seam is under the toes and soft, so really comfortable.
