19, it should have been 20 but I couldn't squeeze out even just one more mile. Typing that sounds ridiculous but I just couldn't.

Hill repeat session, managed 2 sets of 6 so really pleased! I felt a bit stronger too so a nice confidence boost.

5.6 from me this week - a 5k and a short interval session, both of which were hellish Hmm. Feels like just one of those weeks where running is just hard for no apparent reason. I've got a 10k tomorrow morning, so not feeling very confident about that... Oh well, will just get round it with the promise of a bacon sarnie at the end!

devil are you marathon training? When is it? 19 miles is amazing and in the grand scheme of things it's probably better to listen to your body than force that extra mile.

I have forgot to update this week But have done 10 miles in total.

Had my flu jab yesterday and halfway through today's run all my limbs started to feel like lead weights which made it fun! I am hoping the flu jab is to blame anyway!

Last long run before the half, nice easy pace and didn't feel too tired.
Hope the 10k goes ok Laughing.

Sorry I've been off the thread for so long. Been traveling, busy at work etc. Not done that much running (plus DNS'd 2 races) but getting back into it a bit now. Got a 30k night race in 3 weeks which I will do- it's just that Sunday races are really hard to get to now due to changes in the kids schedules.

31 to add in total (thank god for Strava as I'd never have remembered that)

Hope your 10k has gone well LaughingM! I've got one next Sunday which was supposed to be about 1/4 on sand but luckily they've moved the location and it's now almost entirely on sand Hmm. Not feeling so lucky right now, but at least I'm doing it with my little furry friend Grin

Good to see you back KeyserSophie, sorry to hear you dns a couple but glad to see you back to it.

Is your half next week emummy?

Run with my neighbour Friday night and long run with my friend training for her half today, she didn't tell me until an hour in that the last 20mins of the 90 were at tempo pace, I managed it but came close to fainting as I really haven't run more than 4 miles at a time for ages apart from last Monday with her! 533.5

Good luck with the sandy race cinnamon, sounds like a challenge! My half is next Sunday, so fingers crossed for nice weather in the highlands that day!

needastrongone · 25/09/2016 15:38

Would anyone mind if I joined in? Late to the party...

Just getting back to running again after a 4 year lay off due to my back. Thankfully all fixed. Not being able to run was like having a limb chopped off, it meant that much to me. I ran pretty competitively at one stage!

I'm back to running most days, many of these very short and slow, then 2/3 times a week for an hour. It's very early days.

I'm mentally struggling with how slow and unfit I am and how I used to be able to be so much faster. I promised I would never do this, but I do ha!

I am also struggling with reducing my calorie intake lose a few pounds with the extra exercise and tips here would be appreciated. I feel hungry all the time but really trying to remain healthy.

Thanks xx

Hi need. Welcome to the thread. I know how you feel as I am struggling with a niggling hip injury and am nowhere near where I was this time last year in respect of stamina. Before that I made a deliberate decision to cut down to shorter distances due to lack of time to train for the marathons/ultras I was doing, but now I'm beating myself up for finding shorter distances taxing. I need to step away from Strava- I'm sure we were all happier runners when we didnt have a million stats at our disposal. Re the food thing, I personally find that a high protein diet helps.

5 to add from this morning's run- managed to get my ass out of bed at 5:40 to get it in before work.

HI - just a quick update - missed my long run this week as I am a bit weak and watery at the moment but just did a speedy 2.5

needastrongone · 26/09/2016 19:59

Hope you feel better soon still.

Thanks last

Ahhh Keyser, you have done ultras! I would love to hear about that. My ultimate goal! I've done 7 marathons, not that I am anywhere near that now. I've upped my calories a bit, and feel so much better. I've ditched the Garmin while I am so slow, depresses me too much.

Tonight, just half an hour, busy working day, but half an hour is better than none!

cinnamongreyhound · 26/09/2016 20:52

Hi needastrongone! You're very welcome Smile I don't run for an hour at a time mostly so you're already ahead of me! I used myfitnesspal and just tracked what I ate, found that after a few weeks I was much less hungry, drink before you de use you need to eat that can often help!

Wow, keysersophie! I get up at 6 when I do an early run and that's tough enough!

Lovely change to route today, still same distance though! 550.1

karatekimmi · 27/09/2016 17:18

I don't think I've added any distance this month and I've managed 100!! Still a few days to go, but i'"" add it while I remember!!

emummy · 27/09/2016 20:03

Steady run this evening. Usually run in the morning but was marshalling at a cycle race for the dc's high school - very scary fast cycling on wet paths!
Welcome need. I heard an athlete interviewed once who'd been an Olympian then had 2 years out with injury and is just getting back into full training. His coach said to think of himself as the Mark 11 version of himself, and concentrate on improving what Mark 11 could do, and forget about Mark 1 if that makes any sense!

needastrongone · 27/09/2016 20:05

Thanks emummy. I get that totally. I said I would be the same. I just can't put it into practice in my head. Smile

An hours run tonight. No gadgets. It felt hard work. Legs a bit tired.

emummy · 27/09/2016 20:42

But you did it need. Some days that just has to be enough. You'll get there! I suspect you're probably faster than me as you are now!

lastqueenofscotland · 27/09/2016 23:19

9.5 to add

Will catch up properly with everyone soon

KeyserSophie · 28/09/2016 00:28

5 to add from a morning road run

That's good advice emummy re the Mark 11. I reckon I'm a Mark 3 at the moment- it's not terrible but I just feel a bit "off the boil". I also need to drop a few kilos which I'm addressing (ish... well, not really.....)

need I like the "occasion" and the camaraderie of ultras, but the problem is that a 50k trail ultra in HK (where I live) usually incorporates at least 2000m of elevation so they just take so long- like the entire day- and then the next day you feel a bit shagged so that's a write off too. Plus I need to do at least 1x25km run per week to have the legs for that sort of distance, which takes 4 hours, and again, it's just time, or lack thereof. However, I think in the UK there are opportunities for flatter ultras which are more a running test, rather than a climbing test like the HK ones- HK runners tend to do very well in Alpine races, which says something Grin

Just adding a quick 2 mile gym commute from this morning

needastrongone · 29/09/2016 08:46

Interesting stuff about the Ultras Keyser. I hanker to do one, and always have. I agree about the training, marathon training was time consuming enough. And living with the tiredness during training can be tricky. It's a definite bucket list item though, with the aim of WILL do, rather than would like to do.

6.2 miles last night with the club. Boxercise tonight, my legs do actually need a break from running.

KeyserSophie · 29/09/2016 08:58

I reckon Race to the Stones is the one to do. I was entered this year but DNS due to injury. Looks very well organised and beautiful largely runnable course

emummy · 29/09/2016 11:33

Short run this morning, last one before Sunday's hm. But worried as I feel like I'm developing a cold; I will be really annoyed if Sunday's race is ruined by it. Fingers crossed it goes away

680.2 including needastrongone's miles

cinnamongreyhound · 29/09/2016 11:51

Fingers crossed for you emummy!

Usual 4 miles this morning, over half with head torch now Sad feeling rubbish about running today, it felt so hard this morning Sad 684.2
