Hi - 4.8 today and tired legs (plus I needed a poo!).

rounded up to 90.8

needastrongone · 05/10/2016 21:45

Grin at still.

Hilly socks are lovely. I have some Aldi socks that are for cycling that are great too!

Finally my legs have come back, 6.5 with the club tonight. I feel ready to try going with the fast group next week.

Another easy run, getting legs back to normal! Dog had lovely time, managed to find some poo to really roll in, so instead of stretches my first job on getting home was cleaning it all off her. Def going for a run on my own this weekend!

Dark, dark run this morning. Really didn't want to go but I did and glad I did! 106.5

So proud of myself- planned to do 22k from the office with a friend tonight- he dropped out due to a hangover cold but I decided to go anyway as only chance for a long run before my race next Friday. Got changed at work- realised I had the wrong trainers so had to run via my house to get my proper ones- it started raining- i still went out again rather than just slump onto the sofa. It rained all the way round and I didn't give up and run out off the trail onto the road to get a taxi. I just ran through the spooky wooky dark wood by myself, dodging frogs and murderers.

Was a bit further than I thought so nice round 14 miles to add.

Well done keysersophie, big pat on the back!!!

12.7 to add 136.5

Really enjoying it at the moment

AuntieStella · 07/10/2016 10:41

I've done it! I've completed C25K with two more runs over 3miles this week. And treated myself yesterday to 2 new long sleeved tops as it's getting distinctly chiller here.

Thanks to you all for being so welcoming to a newcomer.

Sirzy · 07/10/2016 10:59

I bit the bullet and joined a running club last night! 5.43 miles to add mainly interval training.

Brilliant AuntieStella, well done! Hope you carry on enjoying running, and the associated shopping!
Good luck with the club Sirzy, hope it's good fun.
No running today, helped at ds's school running club this morning, doing a vegetable olympics fun session. I wasn't nearly warmly dressed enough, it was 3 degrees! Between that & walking the dog I feel thoroughly frozen.

Sirzy · 07/10/2016 12:27

The shopping costs a fortune! Between clothes and races. Whoever said running is free has never done it

needastrongone · 07/10/2016 17:42

Did you enjoy the club Sirzy? I enjoy the company, as the rest of my running is done alone.

Well done Stella! I need a long sleeved high viz top and XC shoes.

Well done too on the longer run Keyser and not dipping out!

I have 3 and a Boxercise class from yesterday and 5.3 from today. Today's felt hard but I stupidly hadn't fuelled very well.

Well done on your long after work wet run Keyser that shows some motivation. Congrats on completing your C25k AuntiS you'll be running a 10k race before you know it.
Great news that you've joined a club Sirzy - I love my running club, joined 3 years ago and have made a lot of friends there which means there is no shortage of people to run with outside club sessions (makes a change from my border collie). Not sure I'd ever have had the confidence to do all the races (especially the marathons where training is much better done with others) without the support of the club. I hope you enjoy your club as much!
41 miles to add from this week, no aches and pains at all now. Running in the dark in the morning, any recommendations for a decent head lamp for footpaths to avoid breaking limbs tripping over tree roots?

Anglaise I have an LED LenservSE05 which I like; it is quite light and bright enough I think.

KeyserSophie · 08/10/2016 05:45

I've got an Ay-Up, which is a rechargeable dual beam lamp so you can have one ahead of you and one at your feet. It's great for "pitch black" scenarios and throws a very long beam so good if you need to sort of plan a route across some crappy terrain and not get stuck, but may be overkill on familiar trails. I've also got a smaller Mammut which is pretty good.

Did a quick technical 8 mile out and back today just to get my feet speedy on rocky trail for next Friday.

I have a petzl tikka it's good enough for pitch Black Forest runs with doggies Smile

needastrongone · 09/10/2016 10:27

The Ay-up sounds like it needs to come from Yorkshire. Which I know may get lost in translation unless you are from there!

Does anyone have any trail shoe/XC type recommendations? I'm currently just using my trainers. I used to use Brookes.

7 miles off road in the sunshine.

Lovely run in early morning sunshine today. Bit nippy, first run with gloves for a while!
needastrongone I currently have Innov-8 roclites for trail and love them, they are very comfy. I changed from Salomons because I needed more toe room, but loved the Salomons otherwise. My first pair were Karrimor and they were pretty good!
My daughter wears Brooks Mach 17 cross country spikes for her xc races, they are very light with great grip, am just about to get her a bigger pair

cinnamongreyhound · 09/10/2016 21:31

Innov-8's are great although I'm not sure of the model I have needastrongone.

4 fast miles with the canicross club, lots of dogs today and a couple of new people, dogs were very excited and a yummy apple and cinnamon cake for afterwards. 5C at 8.30 this morning!

Re trail shoes, I'm wearing Hoka Challengers at the moment which are ATRs. I really like them and they are genuinely good on both trail and tarmac/ concrete (my routes often include stretches of reservoir access road or catchwater which are "hard topped"). But, I'm actually thinking of trying a pair of Brooks/ Mizuno as the Challengers are a little bit narrow for me and I think they're making my bunion pain worse. Plus they last 500k max and they're not cheap. That said, I've now got to where I prefer a lower drop and theres not that much choice if you also want a bit of cushioning, so I don't know- argh.

needa strong I did used to think it was that type of "Ay Up" but they're Australian, so not sure. Possibly an emigrated Yorkshireman??

Quick 5 miler this morning as a taper for my race. Felt quite good and relaxed. In contrast to sunny Norfolk, it was 28 degrees at 8.30 this morning Grin

Also considering whether I'll do Tokyo marathon in February. I haven't done a road marathon since 2008 but I'm oddly tempted to give it another go.

Anglaise1 · 10/10/2016 08:19

Thanks for your lamp recommendations, I'm looking into them. I really wanted a rechargeable one as mine has batteries which don't last long if I have the lamp at 160 lumens.
Keyser I didn't know you were a fellow bunion sufferer, commiserations! Mine has had the effect of widening my toe box to such and extent that I find it hard to find normal shoes to fit now and although the bunion doesn't hurt when I run my poor squashed toes do. I asked the question on a trail runners facebook page and had loads of answers, but Innov8's were the favourite for most for a wider fitting. I bought some but haven't even tried them yet as it is so dry here are the moment.
14.5 to add from the weekend

Anyone else nervously awaiting VLM ballot? I'm wondering if I ring the house (no one is in) of the cat will be able to let me know

emummy · 10/10/2016 13:54

Dd2 brought a letter upstairs to me so casually I asked if there was other mail. "Some running thing" she says, so trying to sound relaxed I asked her to get it. She came in with...a brochure from sports shoes.com! Maybe tomorrow!

needastrongone · 10/10/2016 19:48

Grin emummy.

Thanks so much for the comments on trail shoes. A lot of what you guys said resonated. I also have a bunion, shall we start a club? Grin Definitely much worse for all the running I did in the past. One perfect foot and one horrible one!

When I Googled the Innov8's suggested (thank you!), I found a website called Runrepeat which reviews independently pretty much every bloody shoe going. It's a fabulous tool for looking at all the shoes on the market.

I've got similar problems to you guys. I need a shoe that covers road/trail at the same time, and some support. Most trail shoes seem to be for the neutral runner. I've gone for some Merrells, which according to the review, cover this. Plus, they were only £45. Which seems good for a trainer.

4 miles tonight when I didn't really fancy it at all, having had a long day at work and the ferrying kids and dog walking. As usual, I'm glad I did though.
