Hi all. Just moved house and the stress is unbelievable!! Just 3.3 to add and a horrible route round congested streets really. I back on to the park run route but its really really dull! So I need to find a better short run and a nice couple of hills away from the traffic

Anyway hopefully back for more now I've found my trainers 94.3

KeyserSophie · 06/07/2016 19:24

lastqueen Worthing, which is not actually in a park but up and down the sea front, so potential for massive head wind. It's a new one so not sure how busy it will be.

Adding a cheeky 5 from this morning.

Good luck finding some nice routes stilllearnin.
Interval session this morning through the woods, up & down hills. New shoes doing great, got so much more room at the toes so hopefully my poor battered to nails will now recover! Legs felt like lead unfortunately, but I persevered, and it was very warm and sunny so lots of flies, yuck.

I have a question about hill repeats. My training plan has an interval session, tempo run and hill repeat session every week. Given that all my runs involve hills, from 50m to 500m long, usually about 10 on each run, do I need to do hill repeats?! Had this discussion with myself at 6am last Saturday and ended up doing a steady run instead, then my long slow run the next day was up a hill with 1500ft of ascent. Am I being lazy, should I just do the repeats?

karatekimmi · 09/07/2016 07:34

I don't always do hill "repeats" it sometimes just pick a nice hilly route! We do hill reps on the club run! So no, I don't think you need to do them if you have hilly runs. If you run miles out of the way to avoid hills, well that's another matter!!

5.6 miles from me, 121.3 negotiating parkrun with DH and then a nice hilly relay race this afternoon!

emummy · 09/07/2016 09:28

Thanks karate, good luck with the relay.
Fartlek this morning, nice cool morning, left dog at home so more restful!

My first ever Parkrun- managed it in 21:50- came first in age category and second lady (think it was actually third but there was one "unknown") . Nearly died in the last km due to v poor pacing- only pride stopped me walking. Going back next week though. Can see why people do it.

emummy · 10/07/2016 09:58

Well done keyser!
Got a bit confused this morning, tackled a new hill but there was a lot of logging work so the tracks were a bit different from the map. Never did get to the top, but managed 430m of ascent and it was a lovely morning, so never mind. Will try it again, taking a different route though!
138.1 including keyser's park run

lastqueenofscotland · 10/07/2016 15:42

Well done keyser.
3.1 to add from parkrun 15 to add from this morning. The 15 was really grim I ended up walk running aLot have a marathon in 10 weeks and very worried. Feel like I'm cramming for an exam. Especially as work is screwing over at least one of the runs I had planned this week. Argh

Well done keyser glad you enjoyed your first parkrun! Well done everyone else on parkruns - we all got up and ready, but the heavens opened so DH won the toss and got to run, I took the boys to Macdonalds and then picked him up! He then moaned about how wet it was!

We had a hilly trail relay race afterwards which was good. I'm feeling really confident at pacing now, (not fast at all) and it was a really technical downhill first, it was really hard to watch everyone year-arse down the hill first off, and I was at least 500m behind, but I did a brilliant job running past everyone on the hills, i had a great run. 3.8 miles .

Yesterday I managed a run - it was supposed to be first thing, but it was raining and I was hungry, and it just kept getting pushed back and pushed back, but I made it out at half six for 3.5 miles!!

KeyserSophie · 11/07/2016 09:34

emummy re the hill repeats, my understanding is that they serve 2 purposes

  • strengthen your glutes (runners tend to be quad dominant)
  • get your heart rate up (cardio benefit)

If you're already running a lot of hills and doing threshold work through track or flat intervals, you are basically ticking these off already. I don't do specific hill stuff but like you I do a lot of hills anyway just because there are hills everywhere I look, and I just try to make sure I'm keeping a reasonable work rate on them.

emummy · 11/07/2016 19:08

Sounds good to me Keyser, I might do some but not every week. I am feeling a bit tired just now, combination of running, dog, kids on holiday, so a wee rest would be good!

emummy · 12/07/2016 08:42

Holiday running! Lovely early morning run along the Spey near Aviemore.

What a mixture of runs!

I did a 5k race around a local town tonight, lovely route although about half off road and I was expecting a road race. Quite hilly and some tough terrain but I'm disappointed, my garmin made it over 28mins Sad

cinnamon I can only dream of a 28 min 5k!

4.35 to add, I'm gradually trying to add distance, but finding it hard. I tried a walk run from the c210k but I hated it. Walking was bad news, I really struggled to get going again. I'm going to stick to my original plan of adding 500m every week.
