I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

Thanks! I'm irrationally nervous about it! The brisk walking has made us feel good, so I suspect the sense of achievement of actually having both feet off the ground at once will be spectacular.

I've gone for Michael Johnson as my coach, didn't want to waste time with any non-Olympians. Grin

SantasLittleMonkeyButler · 10/04/2016 18:06

Hi! I'm not sure if I've posted on one of the previous threads or not but I'm on Week 9 Run 2 of C25K - so just one more run to go!

My goal then is getting a bit faster ready for my Race For Life event in July. I've taken part before but this will be first year actually running it! 😄

0ellenbrody0 · 10/04/2016 19:44

santa that's great, you're nearly done! I'm doing a Race for Life in July too, it's my aim to run it all as well.

w 5 r 2 done today. I didn't realise it jumped to 8 min runs - woah. I struggled through the first with leaden legs but the second was ok (slightly downhill helps).
I sneaked a peek at my next run ......20 mins!!!! I go from 8 to 20 mins!!! No way!

Not looking forward to that. I'll race you nattygolf !

SkodaLabia · 10/04/2016 19:45

Good god, ellen, is that the NHS app?!

UpWithPup · 10/04/2016 20:12

I've been AWOL for a couple of weeks but still running on and off. Today I've completed w4r3 and treated myself to some proper running tights. I'd also like a better sports bra. Currently wearing on from tesco for 'medium' exercise. Any recommendations? I do like a bit of padding in the cups.

DoreenLethal · 10/04/2016 20:39

I stalled a couple of weeks ago after W5 R1; as I caught a manky cold and have a hacking cough. But I am booked in to a 3k 'fun' run next Sunday. So I tried running 1.5 from my house and back again.

I got 1k away and was having a coughing fit; so I walked back for .3k and then ran the .7k back; so I ran for more than half of the 'fun' run distance and got 2/3 of the distance that I need to do next week. Not as bad as it could have been, bearing in mind my knee, asthma and still having pleurisy on one lung.

NattyGolfJerkin · 10/04/2016 21:40

up, I like the shock absorber Run bras. I'm a 32F so there's a lot of jiggle in anything less heavy duty. A medium support would be a total no go.

NattyGolfJerkin · 10/04/2016 21:42

Lol @ a race, ellen. I can guarantee you'd win. I' a plodder. Even in the days when I was a regular runner, I went for distance over speed.

0ellenbrody0 · 10/04/2016 21:57

Not sure about speed, I struggled to overtake an elderly gentleman and his portly dog today Grin
I use the bbc app, but I think all the c25k progs are fairly similar. I'm dreading it. I read a few threads on other forums about making the jump from 8-20 mins which all suggest its a mind over matter thing. I will reserve my judgement.

PinkFondantFancy · 10/04/2016 22:14

Another vote for shockabsorber here too. ellen it really is. I have no idea how I ran for 20 mins but by some miracle I did. 'Run' is probably a generous description though.

SkodaLabia · 10/04/2016 22:29

I have a fab Panache underwired sports bra, Bravissimo stock it.

UpWithPup · 10/04/2016 22:55

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitely look at them.

KeepOnPlodding · 10/04/2016 23:08

Wow, lots of new posts and new runners. Well done Santa - nearly there!

I have a shock absorber bra and would recommend it (and I am rather large in the norks department). I've also just bought a sports bra from M&S which looks a bit odd since it has a zip at the front but is surprisingly comfortable and supportive.

Did parkrun again yesterday. Still haven't managed to run all of it despite being able to run the distance with the C25k app which is odd. It was very muddy though and I don't like the pretty small hills very much but I will keep going.

Imaystillbedrunk · 10/04/2016 23:12

Just done my first run. So W1R1, was harder than I expected. I'm really embarresed how unfit I am. Going to a beginners running club tomorrow too. I'm going to get fit and shift some weight ... Hopefully

SkodaLabia · 11/04/2016 07:47

Well done, Imay! W1R1 is what I shall be attempting (in the rain) this morning. Did you manage to run all the running sections?

UpWithPup · 11/04/2016 07:59

Well done IMay - I found w1 the hardest so far. Try to watch your speed in the early runs, I always wanted to go as fast as I could but then wouldn't have enough time to recover before the next.

SkodaLabia · 11/04/2016 10:32

W1R1 done! Very proud to say we ran all the running bits (although we were probably going slower than when we were walking). Feel very good indeed. Yay!

Michael Johnson is a rather solemn coach, isn't he?

Any recommendations for running socks gratefully received, my feet are ridiculously prone to blisters on the soles, and I could feel one just beginning to start today, even though I was wearing proper socks.

Imaystillbedrunk · 11/04/2016 22:35

Thanks everyone, I struggled in the last run, and gave up 10 seconds early. I found myself quiet phlegmy during the run so avoided diary today and tonight's run was a lot easier.

The running club helped as it was nice to talk to people and the pace was a bit slower than what I set myself so was overall easier tonight. I have a morning to myself tomorrow so may try another run on my own and see if I can stick to the pace I set tonight..

SkodaLabia · 12/04/2016 10:40

Yes, speed is crucial (hark at me, an expert after one go!). We honestly went at a crawl, it would have been quicker to walk. I think it's important not to discourage yourself. Great that you've met nice people at the running club, I know I wouldn't be doing this if I was doing it on my own.

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/04/2016 10:46

W5R1 done today.

Bit disappointed in myself tbh. Even though it was the most running so far, my distance was 0.75km shorter than the last two. I think I slowed it right down to accommodate the longer running intervals & shorter recovery periods. In short, I think I was a bit lazy. I also ran a different route today, which wasn't a big, neat loop, so that probably slowed me down. Not a great start to W5

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/04/2016 10:47

Ha, I posted mine not having read yours, Skoda re speed.

0ellenbrody0 · 12/04/2016 17:16

Was due to do my W5R3 20 min run today but I actually feel quite ropey. Had a day out shopping in London then a concert so a very late night and sore achy legs (excuses excuses I know).
Will attempt tomorrow morning I think.

DontDoItDi · 12/04/2016 18:49

Glad it went well skoda!

I did W4R1 today and I am shattered. I have been really feeling the step up from 9 minutes to 16 afterwards though it was OK at the time Smile

I've also had the experience of running for a longer time but no further Natty (though not this time, I fitted in an extra turn round the duckpond!) The distance has always picked up again after a few more sessions.

NattyGolfJerkin · 12/04/2016 19:13

Good to know I'm not alone, dont. Hopefully my distances/speed will pick up

Stellar67 · 13/04/2016 09:47

Hello all!

Last night I managed back out after over a month of being off with injury. Went into week5 run1 to see how I'd do. Managed it, and could have done more. But am taking it slowly.

My advice to newbies now would be, make sure you have the right shoes on for your feet. And make sure you don't go mad. Slow and steady. Smile
