I started a new thread. Can't link as on phone and have a heat pad on my knee while awaiting my physio apt.

And on your marks.....

I quite the alone bit I find it weirdly soothing Grin
I am going to go back and dona week 2 one again and try and be proud of the fact that three times today and yesterday i ran non stop for 2.5 minutes.
I am making some progressBlush

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 15/05/2016 20:11

Quite like

0ellenbrody0 · 15/05/2016 20:25

skoda I found that run harder too, weird isn't it?

natty what app have you got that does a 35 min run? Mine stopped at 30 mins, but I still can't do 5k

NattyGolfJerkin · 15/05/2016 20:27

The fitness22 0-10k one but the first 9wks are the same as their 0-5k prog.

NattyGolfJerkin · 15/05/2016 20:29

W8R3 is the 5k run and is 35min. W9 marks the beginning of the 10k programme

SkodaLabia · 15/05/2016 22:24

Do you like that app, Natty? Our plan is to stick at weeks 8 or 9 to build up our pace a bit, and then try to add distance. At that point we'll need something that goes beyond 5k. Can you sync your music to it?

NattyGolfJerkin · 16/05/2016 09:09

I do like the app for usability and yes you can sync your own music.

My only criticism is that some of the step ups are a bit quick and a bit large eg wk8 is

R1 - 28min
R2 - 30min
R3 - 35min

The further you progress, the fewer 'repeats' are scheduled. I find that too hard and so I repeat runs quite a few times before moving on.

SkodaLabia · 16/05/2016 09:22

Thanks, we'll have a look at that once we're running anywhere near 5k. At the speed we're going at the moment even once we run for half an hour we'll only be doing 3.5k. Blush

NattyGolfJerkin · 16/05/2016 11:34

Don't Blush skoda, you are out and doing it. That's what matters!

StrawberriCream · 16/05/2016 12:19

I did w3r2 today and really struggled with the three minute runs - runs, I will have to see how d3 goes and possibly repeat this week

SkodaLabia · 16/05/2016 12:47

It's a marathon (ha ha), not a sprint, Strawberri, just keep at it. I've discovered how important the rest days are, I once ran on two consecutive days, and had calf trouble.

DontDoItDi · 16/05/2016 19:54

Wk6R3 today - one 25 minute run. I enjoyed it - bright cool early morning, twice round the duckpond and I spotted the heron. Even had enough energy left to put on a little burst of speed in the last minute (as instructed by Laura) I don't cover much ground but who cares! Laura says I'm a Proper Runner now and I'm feeling good Smile

DontDoItDi · 16/05/2016 20:04

The NHS podcast is a bit more gradual than that Natty, the end of week 9 is just 30 minutes. I do love the Voice of Laura but on the other hand I have to endure the NHS cheesy music and last year I got very fed up of hearing the week 9 selection over and over again. So I might try the Fitness22 app after I finish the NHS one.

SkodaLabia · 16/05/2016 20:52

The One You app is v good. You can sync it with your own music and there's choice of four trainers.

NattyGolfJerkin · 17/05/2016 11:30

When I first did c25k I downloaded the plan from the race for life website as a PDF and physically loaded each run into my stopwatch as splits. This was before we had all the apps to do it for us. Right at the beginning of c25k. It's so much easier now and there are so many apps/podcasts to help.

Freshsteps · 17/05/2016 14:36

Haven't posted for a while and really impressed to see how everyone is doing! I'm v much enjoying it but find it hard to fit in 3 runs a week (unless I didn't have rest days) so it's taking a while! Just did w5r3; so pleased! It was slower than my walking pace but I found it fine.

What happens in w6 that makes it harder...?

SkodaLabia · 17/05/2016 16:54

We found W6R1 really hard, even though it's 3 shorter runs rather than one long one. It's weird, on paper it should have been much easier.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 17/05/2016 19:14

Ok week three run three done.
Was tough but i ran all the run bits without stopping.
Will be definitely be repeating that one though.
My distance was the longest so far.
Rewarding myself with a skinny latte in starbucks at the mo.
Feeling a little bit more positive Grin

NattyGolfJerkin · 17/05/2016 19:51

Well done freshsteps & hobnobs 🏆

I'm posting from the bath having just repeated 8/2 of the fitness22 schedule which is a solid 30min. We took a long route so ended up with an 18 min cool down walk instead of 5 but it was great. Really positive. A bit of a hilly start but a great route and a nice evening, it has cooled down a fair bit now compared to what was a warm afternoon. Ended up doing 8km all in. Not sure how much of that was running, not checked yet.

butterflybuns · 17/05/2016 22:53

I've just finished week 3 today and enjoying it running around the local duck pond. Have been conned into doing Cancer Research Pretty Muddy this summer with work people so I thought I'd better try a bit of running. This is possibly the 4 time (lost count over the last few years) I've tried to complete c25k. I've had various things which have stopped me in the past including a foot injury, massive eye infection, can't be bothered-itis. I hope that a goal at the end will really help.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 18/05/2016 10:04

I completed week 7 run 2 today.

This is exactly how far I got lost year before I gave up so I'm going to make sure I push myself to the end this time.

I've been doing it on a treadmill though so feel I need to do a run outside to see if it compares. Was going to do it outside today but it was raining heavily.

Has anyone noticed a difference between running on a treadmill and running outdoors?

NattyGolfJerkin · 18/05/2016 10:17

until, I find running on the road much more challenging than treadmill.

Benefits of treadmill,

the moving tread gives you momentum
regular, pre set pace
no hills/inclines unless you set them
no weather (no running into the wind, rain, boiling sun etc)
no traffic to break your momentum
no changes in terrain (grass, kerbs, gravel paths, wonky paving etc)

I run on the road and prefer it despite the list above (!). The view is ever changing so I don't get bored as easily. I also like the feeling of running outside in the fresh air and meeting other runners/dog walkers/cyclists, they're a friendly bunch and always say hello Smile. I think treadmills are great, especially for fast interval training (fartlek type stuff) and training during bad weather but generally I'm an outdoor girl.

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 18/05/2016 10:26

Thanks Natty

When I was doing it last year I ran on grass and did really enjoy doing it outside. Unfortunately houses are now being built on my patch of grass (how very dare they!) so it was either run on the paths where people would see me, or run at the gym that is just behind my house.

I suppose I need to brave the paths don't I?

NattyGolfJerkin · 18/05/2016 11:13

How rude!

FWIW, you soon get over the 'everyone's looking at me, arghhhh' feeling. Mostly because you are too busy trying to keep your focus on the run itself. In my experience, the odd person might give a second glance but in reality no one gives a fig and 99% of those who do are friendly and positive, saying hello and smiling their encouragement.
