Welcome moving and well done on your second 5k despite still being in injury recovery.
Cinners hope you feel better soon
Stillearnin' a romance rekindled after 23 years, wow! And good luck. Is he sporty?
Family my HM is next Sunday, hopefully the marathon training will still be there.
I've met a new guy, early days, not sporty, not particularly tall or athletic, smokes cigars occasionally so on paper not my type but he is really funny, and there is a definite spark. I'd even give up a Sunday morning run to stay in bed with himShock. Very different from the last guy who on paper was perfect and even ran but annoyed the capri pants off me.
Quite a few of my club mates did the Paris marathon today and their times were all really bad compared to what they expected. I think it just goes to show that it was all the extra mileage I put in that helped me improve rather than the coach's plan which certainly didn't work for anyone else!
25 miles from the last few days.

Hi everyone.

Thanks everyone for welcome back had my first half today. Managed it in a time of 2:10:36 so very chuffed kept it steady and then kicked a bit at the end. Grinit's addictive isn't it.

Purpletoes · 03/04/2016 16:33

Sorry forgot total 13.1 so 370.75

emummy · 03/04/2016 18:32

Well done purpletoes, glad you had a good day.

Anglaise1 · 04/04/2016 06:58

Congratulations on your first HM purple! A good time and the most important thing is that you enjoyed it. Yes, its addictive...you'll be wanting to do a marathon soon!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/04/2016 07:44

Welcome movingonmymind! The total states again each month Smile

Welcome back purpletoes! And well done on your hm.

Have a lovely break MyBlackCat!

Excited for you stilllearnin, it's a long time for him to have changed but the fact you can talk in the street for hours is a good sign.

Wow Anglaise1, that's definitely a big sign he's the one!

I haven't been around because I've felt so pants and although my brain would like to run but my body certainly isn't up to it so I'm sulking! I slept all night rather than waking with hot sweats and shivering and I feel more normal this morning but still keep randomly sweating and my throat is so sore. Thinking I may try a couple of miles tonight but in reality I have only had 3 days off Hmm

stilllearnin · 04/04/2016 09:58

cinnamon take it easy or you'll make it worse surely?!

Nope he is not sporty. Drinks too much, smokes too much, but I am actually smitten!

Purpletoes fantastic, well done, bet you're already thinking about your next race?

SkodaLabia · 04/04/2016 12:46

Hello runners. Hope you don't me interrupting, I feel unworthy to be on this thread as I'm still at the brisk walking stage. Blush

A quick question from a slowcoach - what should I be looking for in terms of socks? I've ordered a few pairs to try on, and there's a big difference in cushioning between the San Diego ones, and the Hilly Twin Skin and Hilly Marathon. Is the amount of cushioning just personal taste?

If I walk long distances in pretty much any shoes I get blisters on the balls of my feet, hence thinking I might try the anti blister twin skin ones.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/04/2016 19:47

I only wear normal socks SkodaLabia, so can't help really.

I took a turn for the worse after lunch stilllearnin so I've still not been for a run. Maybe tomorrow! Dogs aren't very happy, dh even walked them tonight Shock

lastqueenofscotland · 04/04/2016 21:11

Skoda I swear by more mile London socks.

5.25 gentle jog today felt every yard so going to have a rest day tomorrow I think.

familygermsareok · 05/04/2016 08:05

Hi Skoda, I use Hilly twinskins and find they do help with blisters on longer runs. I still use monoskins on shorter runs. Haven't tried many other brands but my big toe seems to quickly poke a hole in some kinds which doesn't happen with Hilly.

Hope you feel better soon cinnamon, that sounds miserable.

Your new guy sounds good Anglaise, if he's winning the competition with Sunday morning runs there must be something special about him Smile

Congrats on your HM Purpletoes. It is indeed addictive. I sometimes wonder why on earth I'm doing this during a race but then immediately sign up for the next in a cloud of post run euphoria.

No running for me this week, away skiing instead Smile

emummy · 05/04/2016 09:25

Have fun skiing family hope there is good snow.
I use Hilly socks a lot, currently have a cushioned mono skin pair which are lovely!
Missed my long run at weekend after truly awful sleep in hotel. Got out this morning and pushed pace a bit in preparation for Sunday's 10k.

SkodaLabia · 05/04/2016 10:32

Thanks for the sock suggestions! As you were, speedy folk, I'm off now back to the shuffler threads. Grin

stilllearnin · 05/04/2016 12:10

Good question Skoda I rely on aldi ergonomic running ones but my distances are pretty modest.

Only 2.5 miles today as v little time - but intervals so a decent run and I felt comfy at the end (not during the intervals obviously - they hurt!!)

Cinners any better?

383.8

KeyserSophie · 05/04/2016 13:47

Well done purpletoes and get better soon cinnamon.

Re. socks, I don't really have a preference on brand but tend to go for ones with a bit of toe padding. I say a big "no" to compression socks for actual running despite "Run Mummy Run"s attempt to indoctrinate me into their ways - they give me calf cramp.

Adding 5 from track tonight. First time for 3 weeks due to illness. Tried to stay with the faster (2 of 4) group and managed the 400/800/1200/1600 but then dropped back to my usual group for the 1200/800/400. Probably should have stuck it out but was at the back and a little too far off the pace- basically I'd rather be the best in the slower group and I'm not prepared to suffer that much, which is why I won't improve!! That said, I did manage an average pace of 4:05 which is better than when I started.

I'm racing on Saturday and I really don't want to. It's a 3000m climbing race, so just up and down 4 peaks. Good training but just hard hard hard.

KeyserSophie · 05/04/2016 13:51

Hang on- the maths has gone totally awry- Anglaise!!!!

Since when is 49.15+25=357.65 Grin

Revised total is 105.3

SummerHouse · 05/04/2016 22:15

This time last year I came on here in a panic as I was undertrained for a 10k. The support and advice was just brilliant and I ran in 56 mins which is unbelievable for someone who came last by half a field in the mums race on sports day.

After your advice I got what can only be described as the bug.

I run a marathon in two weeks on Sunday and I have you all to thank.

Aren't runners good people! So generous with in offering their experience and knowledge. Thank you! Flowers

SummerHouse · 05/04/2016 22:15

Oh and 18 to add!

KeyserSophie · 06/04/2016 06:31

welcome summerhouse and well done on your 10k. That's a great first time. Good luck for the marathon. VLM?

Adding 6.3 "gym commute" miles. Pretty slow and dodging lots of tourists in town for the Sevens this weekend. We're going but as a family on Sunday - my days in the South Stand dressed as wonderwoman are behind me.

105.3 +18 from summer and 6 from me

129.3

SummerHouse · 06/04/2016 08:49

Thanks Keyser not vlm as did not get in but same date Stratford upon Avon.

lastqueenofscotland · 06/04/2016 21:40

Summer that's amazing.
5.25 to add from me, was going to go for 6 in the morning but it would have been pure junk mileage which I don't need to be doing 2.5 weeks before the vlm!

134.55

SummerHouse · 06/04/2016 22:15

lastqueen wish I was with you at London. It will be amazing. I will be with you in spirit at Stratford!

emummy · 07/04/2016 09:52

Wee run in woods, last one before Glen Livet 10k on Sunday. Came back covered in mud!
137.55

cinnamongreyhound · 07/04/2016 10:44

First run in a week went well, managed to run OK a bit slow and lots of coughing but felt fine otherwise. Then lost big dog! Came home as my friend needed to get to work, as did dh and my minded children start arriving at 7.30 but dh said he couldn't leave him so I went back out until 8. No sign, my neighbour knocked at 8.20 to says she'd seen him, so got shoes and coats on kids got pushchair out, made it about 20 steps and another neighbour was coming round the corner with him having seen him coming out of the forest! I ran 4 miles, and then ran/walked/shouted another 2.5 so will just add the 4. 141.55

HalleLouja · 07/04/2016 12:18

I haven't really been running as have been ill but 5.6 very slow miles on Tuesday makes 147.15.
