Some great running on this thread! I won't attempt to name check as I'll miss someone out.

I have been lying a bit low, lots of things getting in the way of getting out running but I have a total of 18.6 to add since my HM 2 weeks ago. Have also injured my shoulder, but have already bleated about it on the parkrun and HM threads so will not bore here about it Smile

579.8 + 18.6 = 598.4

well done blackcat and lastqueen. Great results.

Mass starts are always a nightmare, but however the organisers do it, someone isn't happy. If they set the 5km off later, then the fast 5k'er get stuck behind the slow HM's etc. They've trialled "elite starts" in HK (fast runners for all distances get a 2 min start) but they rely on self-selection so don't really work plus you need a chip enabled start which v few races have because the mats to record that many people in a short space of time are super expensive. The selfie thing DRIVES ME NUTS, as does the "sprint out of the gate and then start walking, 3 abreast, once you've got ahead of the people who paced properly" I'm usually pretty mellow but I did get really annoyed at the 50k last week with people doing that as soon as we hit the trail and it becomes single track (i.e. I'm past the bottleneck so I'm alright, Jack.)

The pens at VLM work better than most things and at least it's now chip so the time doesn't start till you get to the line.

lastqueenofscotland · 21/03/2016 07:26

Keyser it was chip timed which was what was SO annoying. As much as the great run series is ££££ I think the idea of having coloured numbers for your projected time and you can stand in a slower one but not a faster one work really well. I've only done the great south run but I thought that worked perfectly. This was a freeforall especially as the true elites had a different start point. One of my club got stuck behind a wall of walkers for the whole first 5k

cinnamongreyhound · 21/03/2016 14:04

Fantastic running KeyserSophie, MyBlackCat and lastqueenofscotland!

Impressive elevation emummy Shock

Hope the shoulder improves soon FiftyNineOhEight!

Hey, I'm a noob to this exercise malarkey. I've signed up to do a HM in Oct and last week I'd not ran for more than 2min (because I thought I was going to throw up and die), just ran 2.5k this morning... Turns out I still think I'm going to throw up/faint/have an asthma attack, but I actually don'tHmm.
I'm actually going to die aren't I? In Oct? Ir worse, get caught by the sweeper Angry. Too cocky, too quickly.

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/03/2016 21:03

lastqueen I started running overseas and the local (massive!) running club always did race starts by estimated finish time, with coloured bibs and segregated pens - like you say, you could go down but not up (so DH could, if he wanted to, start in my pen, but I couldn't start in his). All the races were 1000's of people and they were very hot on race etiquette e.g. moving to the left if you wanted to stop, passing on the right, not walking several abreast and blocking the way etc So it was a bit of a shock to turn up at a parkrun when I moved back to the UK where people started and stopped wherever they wanted Smile - and there were hardly any of them!

5908 :) I like to hedge my bets by posting on a few threads, not too many, but more than oneGrin
Does your name being abbreviated to 5908 annoy you?

FiftyNineOhEight · 21/03/2016 22:47

Not in the least Smile

Feel like I can graduate to this thread now from the c25k. I've started running to try and help with depression. I have run 28km in the past 10 days!! (In max of 5km stints) now I can run 5k comfortably I am working on my time. Can do it in 35 mins currently. Any hints?

I have signed up for a 10k in July :-). What are the numbers in bold people have added?

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/03/2016 06:29

Welcome thewaves and congratulations on completing C25K Star

We add our miles together each month - feel free to add yours!

The current total is 598.4 + your 28km

Welcome to the thread Alice and thewaves.
Well done to LastQueen and Myblackcat for the racing. Sorry about the disorganisation Last. Barcelona last week was brilliantly organised for the pens, we all had coloured bibsn the elites went off first and then there were a little over 3 minutes before the next SAS (pen?) - mine, started, then I think gaps before the other ones too. Rome the year before was more chaotic because the walkers and runners in the last pen went off together and runners were held up a little.
6.1 from yesterday
604.5 plus the 17.5 miles from the waves
622

lastqueenofscotland · 22/03/2016 14:09

I'm so glad it's not just me being a bore! T would have been a perfect on course had the first two miles not have taken me 5 mins longer than it takes me to run 5k!!

I went for a mini jog yesterday before I went home. Not sure I'll go today so adding yesterday's mileage

625.3

MyBlackCat · 22/03/2016 15:26

I'm working away this week in Sheffield and went for an early morning run - I've discovered Sheffield is one big hill Shock I did two miles up followed by two miles back down again. Hoping to do a parkrun here on Saturday but the closest one is at the top of this hill and running is my only way of getting there Confused

629.1

MyBlackCat · 22/03/2016 15:27

Sorry got my maths wrong, I did 4.1 miles so total is 629.4

cinnamongreyhound · 22/03/2016 21:18

4 miles tonight, a bit slow as my running buddy hasn't run for nearly 2 weeks 633.4

lastqueenofscotland · 22/03/2016 22:01

Blackcat I was there last year and it is relentless hills!!

Did my 4.5 with club, knackered but glad I did
637.9

FiftyNineOhEight · 22/03/2016 22:11

MyBlack I am doing the Sheffield HM in a couple of weeks and it is horribly hilly.

Is it Graves at the top of the hill? The only Sheffield parkrun I've done is Hallam (which is hilly)

OP posts:
MyBlackCat · 22/03/2016 22:26

I got bored this evening and did 2.5 miles of treadmill intervals. It's Sheffield castle parkrun I was considering, I ran to the park it's in this morning - uphill all the way and the run looks hilly too. May change my mind Smile Tomorrow I will try and find a flatter run but I don't hold out much hope.

640.4

KeyserSophie · 23/03/2016 01:19

Just adding 5 from a quick run this morning

645.4

lastqueenofscotland · 23/03/2016 07:52

Black there are a few in Sheffield I think Hallam is quite flat?

FiftyNineOhEight · 23/03/2016 10:36

Grin lastqueen Hallam isn't super-hilly, but hillier than my usual parkrun. DS1 lives near Graves, and complains about having to run/cycle up a massive hill to get there - he sometimes goes to Hallam, which is a lot further away, to avoid the hill Grin

The Sheffield HM has prizes for the King of the Hill section. There is supposed to be a flat 10K somewhere in the middle, as there's a prize for that bit as well.

OP posts:
thewavesofthesea · 23/03/2016 10:55

645.4+3.1=648.5

thewavesofthesea · 23/03/2016 11:12

Another 5k this morning. I'm off work at the moment with depression and using running to help me to recover. It really helps. 33km in the past 12 days!

stilllearnin · 23/03/2016 13:50

Hi waves - I'm on a phased return after a stressful break up. My running hasn't been so regular but i am on a daily yoga thing which helps too. Keep it up and if you get offered a phased return take it - I wasn't convinced I needed it but its been really helpful - yesterdays run scuppered by ds wagging it from school but planning to get out there tomorrow.
