Keyser I'm surprised you felt strong enough to do a speedwork session at all after your massive effort on Saturday.
Stilllearnin haven't had time to catch up with he Archers from last week yet, I'm enjoying Rob the psychopath story having been out with one myself.
6.6 miles from the club session last night.
440.55

KeyserSophie · 16/03/2016 09:51

Anglaise I took it pretty easy on the 50k- the ankle was definitely the limiting factor in terms of speed (lots of rocks and roots to skip around)and I kept my condition up by having one SIS gel every hour whereas usually the fuelling falls apart by 30k and I drag myself over the line completely dehydrated and de-glycogened (official term).

The other thing is that for the last month I changed my diet to a high protein one (basically at least 1g of protein per kg body weight). I'm usually quite sceptical about dietary changes but I do seem to feel better in terms of strength and recovery. Could just be in my head though.

I've got a little 20k race on Sunday so we'll see how I go there.

Knackerelli · 16/03/2016 20:06

Loving how 20k is a little run! Grin

I need to add parkrun, club run and a helping a friend back from injury run so...11.3 in all.

451.85

cinnamongreyhound · 16/03/2016 21:09

Hi stilllearning!!!! So pleased you're still managing to get some miles in.

4 miles on my own again tonight, I went in the dark but life isn't easy at the moment so I went with running fast and loud music to combat my thoughts and to get out of the desk forest quickly!!! Meant that 2 out of my 4 miles were sub 9 and the other two were 9:10. I'll probably ache tomorrow! At least I know a parkrun pb is a possibility, perhaps I need to be less sociable and get my headphones out and go for it next week. 455.85

KeyserSophie · 17/03/2016 00:34

Sorry things are tough Cinnamon. I had a bad 6 mo at the start of last year and running/ lifting saved me. I'm also a recent shameful convert to race headphones, at least when it gets tough. I had Katie Perry on repeat for the last 15k last weekend. Highly recommended.

Loving how 20k is a little run! yeah- sorry. That sounded a bit wanky. What I meant is it isnt a league race so I was just going to treat it as a training run and run round with a friend. But just found out last night it is a league race, so I might have to bring my game (a bit, notwithstanding a few glasses of champagne on saturday at mum's birthday lunch).

cinnamongreyhound · 17/03/2016 07:29

4 slower miles with my friend this morning, super foggy! 459.85

Anglaise1 · 17/03/2016 09:19

Keyser , your comment didn't sound wanky, after a long race a 20k is a little race! It's all proportional. I'm looking forward to doing a 'little' HM in a few weeks, it is almost a pleasure after a marathon and usually possible to do a good time with all the training still in the legs.
Sorry you aren't having an easy time at the moment, Cinners. Running saved me a few years ago too.
Regarding earphones - here in France the Athletic Federation have just banned their use in all races. I never wear them in races anyway, I've always been an anti-headphonerace runner (it isn't very sociable!), but I wear them when training on my own/with the dog for long runs and to catch up on BBC radio podcasts.
15.65 to add from that last couple of days. Weather is fantastic.
471.5

stilllearnin · 17/03/2016 10:01

Hello another 4 from me today. And thanks for the good wishes! That's the first time I have run twice in a week in 5 months!!

Keyser I like the proportionality of it. I always thought that runners were a bit snooty - looking down on the shufflers like me! But I was really wrong. I know all sorts of runners and everyone is so encouraging. When I've been running longer and faster I have looked at people jogging along red-faced and slow like me today and thought 'that's so cool, you're doing it'.

Cinnamon you're doing well to get out there. I hope it gives you some solace.

Now then, here comes the maths 475.5

emummy · 17/03/2016 15:56

Very misty this morning, forest very atmospheric. Felt sluggish today, legs heavy after yesterday's boot camp, but I think my head was sluggish too! Still made it up about 950 m of climb and didn't lose dog in the mist, so not all bad.
Off to school cross country tomorrow with my daughter and her school teams, fingers crossed for good results.

lastqueenofscotland · 17/03/2016 20:05

4.65 wanted to run this morning as well but was feeling poorly. So didn't risk it!!

Fly to Lisbon for the half marathon tomorrow!!

489.15

KeyserSophie · 18/03/2016 02:03

Ooh, good luck Last Queen and I think you'll be glad you had the extra day's rest.

I did 5 miles this morning. Cant complain about this in RL as people will think I'm unhinged, but I was gunning for a PB on an especially challenging Strava sector, and then bloody bastarding DH called me as he'd forgotten his passport- arrghhhhh. Grounds for divorce? Almost certainly!! Mind you, he is taking both the kids and my mum (in town for 2 weeks) to rugby training on Sunday so I can get to this race, so I''ll give him a stay of execution.

stilllearnin The people I'm always in awe of are the fast 10k and 5k runners. Just maintaining that level of discomfort for c.20/40 mins. I have to summon all my lung power to maintain that pace for 1k.

Good climbing emummy and hope your daughter does well at the weekend.

494.15

emummy · 18/03/2016 16:02

Good luck lastqueen, hope the race goes well and you have a great time in the sunshine!
Good day for dd's school cross country teams today, with an individual gold, a team gold, 2 team silvers and a team bronze out of 6 races. dd went from 63rd last year to 17th this year, out of 80, so she's very happy. And in true xc style it was freezing, wet and very very muddy!

Anglaise1 · 18/03/2016 19:16

Congrats to your DD emummy, that is very impressive improvement she has made over the last year! XC is the holy grail of running, if you can do that well you can run any other type of race well.
LastQueen good luck for your HM in Lisbon, please report back as I'm thinking of doing the Lisbon marathon in 2017...
7.5 miles to add from this evening.
501.65

Knackerelli · 18/03/2016 19:49

Ouch, no, sorry keyser really didn't mean you sounded wanky at all; was genuinely a compliment at your distances. My half marathon last year nearly killed me. Definitely in awe. Flowers

cinners sorry you're having a tough time. Running, if you can escape, is definitely helpful to get your head together.

Woohoo miniemummy your dd sounds fab!

lastqueen stilllearnin sending positive vibes for your races/running this week

MyBlackCat · 19/03/2016 13:57

Parkrun and a post bike run from earlier in the week from me. Ran the parkrun hard even though I have my first duathlon tomorrow, think I may regret it Grin

MyBlackCat · 19/03/2016 13:57

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend x

cinnamongreyhound · 19/03/2016 18:04

Parkrun and there and back from me, felt awful today but was quicker than last week 510

cinnamongreyhound · 20/03/2016 11:17

A lovely 6 miles his morning, bumped into two other club mates so all ran together, a bit more stop start than I like but nice to run with different people and the sun is shining! 516

KeyserSophie · 20/03/2016 12:38

Well, it was a good race. 1st in the veterans and 4th overall in a pretty strong field. My first official podium (as in, actually got to stand on it, got a cup and a medal and people took photos and clapped- normally they don't bother with a proper presentation- you just go to the desk and get the prize). Quite a lot to think about in terms of what I got right (not getting sucked into chasing people down early and hence overpacing, but trusting my own pace and that I can catch them later, managing fuelling and hydration) and what I got wrong (didn't recce, negative attitude going into it, wimped out a bit- in the closing stages "I could go faster now but it'll hurt")

Well done to emummy's DD and good vibes to all those racing today.

Adding 13 to make 529

Anglaise1 · 20/03/2016 13:04

Keyser superb, well done on your first official podium. And great that you got so many things right (above all the pacing, which can be difficult but pays off if you get it right). As for wimping our, not sure it is that so much as listening to your own body instead of arriving at the end of the race completely broken and vomiting (as some of the men in my club do!)
Cinners hope you are feeling better, and yes it is nice to run with other people for a change.
Blackcat good luck on your dualtholon today.
17.5 miles this weekend,
546.5

emummy · 20/03/2016 13:18

Good running all. Great result Keyser well done. Sounds like you got more right than wrong. Enjoy your moment of glory!
Real slog this morning up big hill but managed it. Then got home & realised why it was a slog - total elevation of 2155 ft! That's the most I've done yet and the run was 14 miles so quite pleased, tho could have been faster. Think the race is about 1100 ft though, so fingers crossed it will be easier.

6.2 miles in two parts either side of a 18km bike. Really enjoyed it Smile Tried to pace myself on the first run and started steadily, ended up over taking quite a few people who went off two quickly. It was an out and back so I could work out what position I was in, 4th female after first run but shocked at my time 24:47 Shock I was concentrating on going steady and I've only ran about 5 parkruns quicker than that. Bike was tough as I don't cycle that much and it started with a massive hill, I was struggling to turn the pedals then realised I was in the higher ring chain Confused - knocked it down and survived the hill. Lots of people passed me on the bike but only three women, one of whom I beat out of transition. Legs didn't feel like they belonged to me on the second 5km but started steady and kept moving. No one passed me and I overtook quite a few so was feeling smugSmile. Finished 5th female, second run was 26:34 which I was again shocked with as felt awful.

So definite room for improvement on the bike and in and out of transition but really enjoyed it. Great cake at the finish too.

Well done keyser on your podium finish Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 20/03/2016 16:42

Lisbon was great. Was a shade over two but the start/first two miles is bloody chaos, there's a 5k family fun run that starts at the same time and so lots of weaving in and out/getting stuck behind walkers/people stopping to take selfies, the first mile took 16 mins and it didn't start flowing till the fun runners got channeled to a different course at 2 miles! I'm happy it went well after I got so sick last time. and once the initial frustration waned I really enjoyed it

Well done keyser and myblackcat

emummy · 20/03/2016 17:41

Well done MyBlackCat, a great result and cake too!
Glad it went well lastqueen, despite that chaotic start!
