Awesome time Anglaise. Good luck tomorrow lastqueen

I am feeling human for the first day this month (must have been the 3 glasses of prosecco and 2 Asahi I had last night- kill or cure, right?). Had to work this morning, but managed to get out for 5 miles just now and clocked up a reasonable time on one of my regular routes, so a bit happier.

Gastrointestinal Distress With Patrick Wilson, Ph.D.

I've not listened to it myself yet but thought those who suffer running related GI problems might want to check it out

Only just subscribed to the podcast so I have no idea what it's like

cinnamongreyhound · 20/02/2016 17:10

3.1 parkrun miles - a new PB by 30s and first female finisher, felling very proud of myself Grin all this xc trail running seems to be paying off.

Well done My BlackCat, great result!
Lovely run this morning, left dog at home which was a bit more relaxing! Nice hilly run from house up into woods above town and back. Off to Dundee now for dd2's cross country, fingers crossed for a good result.

First ever sub 2 half marathon today! 1:55 ish. Felt like I could have gone faster wasn't on closed roads so there was a bit of early on shuffling rather than being able to push forwards

lastqueenofscotland · 21/02/2016 16:15

In all my excitement I forgot to add the mileage

Keyser hope you are feeling better now.
LastQueen congrats on your PB H, that's fantastic and should give you a big boost for your marathon.
Suzanne as a gastro sufferer I'll be listening to those podcasts to see if there is anything new, thanks for posting the links
Fifty Thankyou so much for the JB offer, I'll let check my stock and let you know but I probably will need some. On Friday's long run I had some, my friend took a chocolate protein bar she uses for long trails and she didn't digest it and had horrid stomach problems for the rest of the run. With the jelly babies I never have a problem!
13 miles from this weekend, didn't do anything yesterday just watched my club suffering on a 10k run I usually do. When you watch others racing you wonder what pleasure you can possibly get from such sufferance!

Thanks for all the cheering on. Massively more happy about my marathon now, as that hasn't taken that much out d me,

Good steady run in the sunshine; halfway through was a bit worried about the strides my plan said I had to do at the end but I did them! Dog thought it was great fun, sprinting across the park and did her level best to trip me up but I stayed on my feet and actually quite enjoyed it.

Well done lastqueen- great result and well done blackcat on your Park run victory

11.8 to add today. Did 11k with a friend this morning- went climbing- 1300m in total, so to be honest it was more a "hike up, run down" than a run, but I'm counting it!

Then 8k tonight on the track. 1200m at 5k pace, walk 100m, 300m flat out, 90 sec recovery. 5 repeats. Was pleased that I managed to maintain a 4:00-4:20 pace on the 1200m without passing out or vomiting.

Going to take it easyish for the rest of the week as got a 37k race this weekend.

KeyserSophie · 23/02/2016 12:44

sorry- total is 827.84

cinnamongreyhound · 23/02/2016 20:52

I always think that while I'm racing Anglaise1 then a day later want to find another race to enter 🙈 Confused

That's impressive speed KeyserSophie, I've never pushed myself to vomiting which I think is why I'm not as good as I should be at 5k.

4 very chilly miles tonight, huge moon, loads of stars and very still 831.84

Anglaise1 · 23/02/2016 21:43

Good luck with your 37k race Keyser, I feel like a real wimp as I only have a 15km race on Sunday to do, mostly road so not interesting but the nearest thing to a half marathon before the Barcelona marathon that there was in the whole of France believe it or not.
Am so looking forward to post marathon being able to do what ever I want when I want and enjoy every run.
19 miles to add from the last 2 days training or whatever, I've lost count. I never want to do another marathon again. Until the next one.

4.5 hill session from me last night. It was traumatic.

Enjoying my rest day!

Plan for the rest of the month is commute run tomorrow, parkrun sat, 10k sun. Monday off and an easy week as braving 20 miles next weekend Sad

backinschool · 24/02/2016 11:39

Hi all,

can I join the thread please? I'm sort of a newbie runner. I've had a couple of years off after a knee injury that took ages to heal and sapped all my motivation but I'd plodded a bit, on and off, before that. I have started again this week and I'm loving it. I was really surprised I could manage 2 slow miles on my first run as I'm totally out of shape so I'm feeling really motivated which is just as well as I have agreed to do a crazy 5km obstacle mud run in 3.5 weeks - eek. It has lots of crawling through mud and climbing over walls and nets so I'm a bit scared but strangely excited too. I've only done 2 runs so far - 2.1 miles and 2.6 miles - both very slowly so I'm not sure how I'll find it but I know a few people on the team are doing a fast walk so I should be okay.

I also have the Great North Run in September but I'll have to find some events between now and then as they really keep me motivated. I was thinking about Great Manchester Run (10k) in May but if anyone can recommend a good 10k in the north east (I'm in York) that's friendly and okay for a slow runner that would be fab.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/02/2016 15:46

Hi backinschool

Welcome!

Re a nice 10k the great Manchester run is eyewateringly expensive, more than the London marathon I think!
Have a look at the runforall series, there is one in hull, one in Lincoln, Leeds, York etc usually very mixed ability,

backinschool · 24/02/2016 16:19

Thanks queen, definitely one to avoid then. I'll have a look at the runforall series though. It's always good to know there will be mixed abilities - I'm always worried about finishing ages after everyone else.

raspberrytart · 24/02/2016 18:57

Thanks folks. I havent kept up with this thread much but have been running 2/3 times a week. Was in Scarborough for half term so had some different scenery to look at, and plenty of hills! Got Lakeland trails coming up soon so need to keep at it!
