Adding in 8.57 from yesterday. Didn't quite go to plan as I forgot my socks (clearly something is in the air) but rather foolishly decided to go out for a run regardless. I now have two huge blisters on my insoles. Fortunately today is a rest day but I'm supposed to do 12 miles tomorrow. Hoping the compeed plasters do the trick. I had also intended to go and buy some trail shoes tomorrow but I might postpone until my blisters have gone.

Thanks for the recommendations on podcasts Suzanne and anglaise – I'm going to spend a happy hour looking at them all and sorting out my ipod.

Suzanne I read running with the Kenyans without any preconceptions (it was a present) and I wasn't really expecting to get training advice from it but found it really interesting to see what other nationalities did. Although I'm now wondering to what extent some of their talent is fuelled by drugs.

Welcome dodo - I'm running two halves in the next few months, mainly as prep for a marathon but I'm also hoping to get my time down. Hope the training is going well.

devil are you a dog trainer? Hope you managed to avoid the pylons!

Hope the jetlag is easing keyser

Anyone else entered the GNR ballot?

KeyserSophie · 07/01/2016 13:01

Adding 11.75 to make 262.91. Combination of an each way gym commute and then a last minute 11k evening trail run over the hills with a couple of guys from work. Exhausted now.

lastqueen I haven't entered but I've done the GNR 3 times, back in the days when you could just go on the website and casually enter in August (insert old gimmer emoji). One thing I'd say is that even then it wasn't a race for a good time as it's just too damn crowded and the bridge is a bottleneck, and I've heard it's a lot worse now. Just letting you know as I know you've been working on your times.

Definitely going to take a look at these podcasts. Need something for these long runs.

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2016 13:23

Thanks keyser.

I've got a few very fast not crowded small halves but do love a big race, and SIL RAVES about it. It is the week before a marathon I want to do which I'm sure isn't a good idea... Well see.

I already have a calendar of 20 odd races for this year. My poor poor bank balance!!!

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2016 14:01

10 miles from me today.
LastQueen I suppose it depends if you want to do a time for your marathon, if you don't it will be OK but otherwise I wouldn't do a HM less than 3 weeks before a marathon.

cinnamongreyhound · 07/01/2016 14:35

Very very very wet run in the early hours today, good company otherwise sucked! 276.91

Loueytb3 · 07/01/2016 14:55

LastQueen – I've entered the GNR ballot. 4th year running - let's see if this year I have more luck. I am not doing it for a quick time as I have heard it's very busy but more to tick it off my bucket list.

Anglaise – do you reckon a half marathon 3 weeks before a marathon is ok? The one I've entered with my sister is just under 3 weeks until Brighton. I find it hard not to race (especially as we are both competitive).

Cinnamon – that can't have been fun. It absolutely teemed it down here at 5/6am and woke me up.

Anglaise1 · 07/01/2016 16:24

Louey 3 weeks should be finefor a HM before a marathon.
I'm at a bit of a loss because the Barcelona marathon is so early in the season that there are no HMs within 350kms of where I live to do. Coach has put us down for a 15km trail race but it really isn't ideal at all Sad
There are quite a few HMs in in the UK mid Feb, maybe I should come over and do one there instead!

stilllearnin · 07/01/2016 19:04

Hello Hello - I am hopefully back. I will catch up but for now I managed 5 wet and muddy miles today

suzannecaravaggio · 07/01/2016 19:10

12 dry and mostly sunny (if windy) miles from me
293.91

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2016 21:11

4.7 from me tonight 298.61

Did plan to run in the morning as well but it was shitting it down (technical term)

runtothehills · 07/01/2016 22:07

Well I don't think it can get any wetter. my last 3 runs have been drenching, though tonight has to take medal. Whilst roads were flooding/closing left right and centre we decided a wee club night run up a local hill was called for, on the plus side after the first 5 mins the rain turned to snow which made the higher section quite atmospheric. 18 miles in total since Sunday. 316.61

Welcome dodo, ouch Louey, totally agree with technical terminology lastqueen Grin

lastqueenofscotland · 07/01/2016 22:42

Hills I saw that the a93 had... well... Dissolved and did think of you! I hope you're not underwater!

FiftyNineOhEight · 07/01/2016 22:45

Hello all.

A short 3.25 from me this afternoon Smile

Keeping afloat thanks to our elevated house location, developing our own moat though. Might have to swap running shoes for flippers Wink Thought East coast was meant to be the dry side!

stilllearnin · 08/01/2016 07:06

runtothehills Blimey!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/01/2016 09:16

Oh no runtothehills, that's really sucky! We haven't had that much rain but the soil is so sandy so rarely muddy but it's super sludgy in the forest and the drains aren't coping well while it's actually raining. But it froze overnight here and a lovely bright crisp morning here today. No running from me today, missed my Friday morning run but I need to be sensible (I think)!

Anglaise1 · 08/01/2016 10:58

Runtothehills the rain and floods are awful for you, I hope things dry out soon for you up there Flowers
Louey there are a few other Mumsnetters doing the Brighton marathon on the Marathon Training thread. Have you done it before?
Welcome back Stillearning
Keyser good luck with your race this weekend
8.5 marathon training miles this morning, 50 minutes easy then 30 minutes at 12.5kph with a friend who is doing the marathon with me.

custardcreamdreams · 08/01/2016 11:57

Glad you're ok runtothehills, the footage on the news this morning looked horrendous. I'm going to ring my db tonight as he lives in Aberdeenshire, although I think his house could be ok as he's also elevated. Whether or not he'll be able to make it into work is another matter.

Trying to motivate myself to go out now before ds gets home from school. The plan was tonight but it's to be icy and I don't fancy slipping around in the dark. Just home from kettlebells though and finding it hard to summon the energy.

OneFlewOverTheDodosNest · 08/01/2016 12:18

Thanks for the welcome everyone - only went for an absurdly quick jog yesterday because the weather was dire. Hopefully the waters will recede a bit in time for the GNR!

☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️ 😎 ☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️

thank you whoever is in charge of Suffolk weather for such a beautiful morning, I really appreciate it! Fab run, lovely to finish with plenty of spare miles in my legs for once

329.86 + 10 = 339.86

custardcreamdreams · 08/01/2016 13:49

Done. Actually enjoyed it after the first couple of miles once the fatigue had worn off.

Best of luck for the 15k keyser

7.2+1.4 short run yesterday trying out my new shoes.

stilllearnin · 08/01/2016 16:14

Well done custard I have to go to first thing or not at all! We also had beautiful sunshine. I walked today as far as the cafe for tomatoes on toast and three cups of coffee

emummy · 08/01/2016 19:06

5 lovely miles in a beautiful snowy forest, with blue sky for the first time in ages! So nice to have no rain. Kids off school today because of transport problems, and dd1's high school was leaking everywhere! Luckily dh working from home as didn't want to risk the roads, so still got out with dog.

11 on the nose from me today. Trying to up my milage now I'm marathon training properly(ish) Anyone's garmin doke up with some fucking random distances? It said my 5 k route was 2.4 the other day. Or is that just the perils of one when you live in a v built up area? It's on autopause which might not be helping but I can't see how you manually pause it. I am thick.
