Nah I'm more of a night time runner stilllearning, have to really force myself out in the mornings. Only thing is now it's done, I'm bored tonight with no dc here - and no money to go out in the post Christmas finances :) Might do some stretches and use the foam roller for a while later as I've hit the gym hard this week and feeling it.

What model is it lastqueen? Maybe google? Mine just has a button on the side to press to stop and press again to resume. Distances normally come out ok, it's finding the signal can sometimes be a right pita. Strangely overcast days it picks it up no problem, sunny days I have issues.

KeyserSophie · 09/01/2016 09:32

last Mine is definitely worse when I'm in central HK where I think the buildings do block the signals. If you use Strava, just take auto pause off because Strava calculates based on moving time anyway. It's really handy if you go out with friends and end up having breaks to regroup etc as I always find that if I manually pause my watch, I forget to restart it. I was also finding with auto pause that it wouldn't always re-start right away, especially if there was tree cover and then it would assume that you went by the most direct route from the last point it registered to where it picked up again, losing a lot of distance in cases.

Anyway, adding 12.2 to make 366.66. "But how?" I hear you ask "Given that your race was only 15k?" Um, because I got lost and added another 4.5k Blush. Mixture of slightly bad signage and me being stoopid. Most annoying thing is that when I went wrong I only had 500m to go- argh! Most trail races measure long though, so I didn't think too much of it till we got to 17k and then we were "Um, think we better check googlemaps........oh BOLLOCKS!!" Ah well, don't mind bagging the extra k's and i'd rather it happened today than in an important race. The race was a really great course, so no regrets.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/01/2016 11:31

Sounds lovely finally emummy!

That's some impressive getting lost KeyserSophie, well done on your race Smile

My garmin is pretty accurate lastqueenofscotland it's my phone gps on endomondo that's usually out but mostly too far not too short.

4 miles from me for parkrun and there and back, got a post pregnancy pb today of 27:09 although I made it a few seconds quickerGrin 370.66

Anglaise1 · 09/01/2016 11:48

Congrats on your post pregnancy PB Cinnamon that's really encouraging!
Keyser how annoying to get lost but at least you enjoyed the race and it wasn't a really important one. It is one of the hazzards of trail racing, I don't know any trail runner who has never got lost at least once.
Last what Garmin do you have? Mine has always been pretty accurate for distances although it does depend on the weather or tree coverage. When I run under trees the speed varies really inconsistently, I'm sure my pace is more regular than it shows.
15.7 miles this morning, long marathon training run, partly with friends who did the first hour with me, and the rest (and the faster pace) just me and the dog.
Major PITA at the moment, really painful sitting down.

Well it's been pretty dry here the last few days so I've managed to get a couple of runs in. Unfortunately I decided to do a lap of the rugby pitch and ended up to my ankles in mud! Must have looked rather odd running along the main carriageway!

Hopefully my trainers will survive the wash!

familygermsareok · 09/01/2016 16:35

Hi everyone, I am delighted to be able to add 9.5 miles over the last 8 days Smile
All parkruns, my first return run was on New Years Day, then another the following day (keen parkrunning friends staying with us so it kinda had to be done) then one today, slightly longer than usual because route changed due to flooding/ ice. Probably not ideal rehab for Achilles but it felt sooo good to be running again. I am going to keep my mileage low and build up slow now. Have a local HM in April that I always do, aiming to be fully fit for that.

That is some getting lost Keyser, so close to the finish too. At least it was a nice course and not an important race.

familygermsareok · 09/01/2016 16:37

Oops, forgot to add miles.

suzannecaravaggio · 09/01/2016 18:13

congratulations on your patience and forbearance FamilyStar
I hope the tendon problem continues to abate

commiserations on the PITA Anglaise:(
I dont have anything useful to say about it mine fluctuates sometimes for no discernible reason.
Low level lately, I think missing a couple of runs a short while back helped.
Not that I would ever willingly not exercise...I had a virus!

suzannecaravaggio · 09/01/2016 18:13

lastqueenofscotland · 09/01/2016 21:20

Mines forerunner 620 I can't for the life of me work out how to manually pause it!

2 pacey hill miles today tried to stick to 7ish min miles

Anglaise1 · 10/01/2016 12:29

A chatty easy run this morning, no club session because of the cross country competition this afternoon.

emummy · 10/01/2016 12:30

Feeling tired so had very slow run this morning, just concentrating on getting round. 300m of climb, managed not to walk any of it, and only got rained on a little.
I have a Tomtom runner watch and it's easy to work, pausing & restarting no problem and picks up satellite quickly.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/01/2016 13:00

8.86 miles from me, 5.86 with company and a mile and a half to and from our meeting point, met quite a few walker and cyclists but no other runners 432.23

FiftyNineOhEight · 10/01/2016 13:38

9 mostly sunny miles from me - my reward for getting soaked while volunteering at parkrun yesterday. Very slow - despite dry January and a good night's sleep last night there was no bounce in my legs. Work and my OU course are both taking up a lot of brain space just now, so it was good to have cleared my head.

lastqueenofscotland · 10/01/2016 14:31

I think I've had aa couple of dodgy runs back from work as there are a lot of high rises it's been perfect this weekend.

5 hilly miles at faster than my race pace... Even managed 5:45 pace for about a minute! I'm racing next weekend and have a target time so... Fingers crossed!

lastqueenofscotland · 10/01/2016 14:31

Helps if I add them on 446.23

emummy · 10/01/2016 17:17

FiftyNine I'm doing an OU course too, fun fitting it in isn't it?! Running def helps keep me sane

Anglaise1 · 10/01/2016 17:26

5.45 a mile??

lastqueenofscotland · 10/01/2016 17:41

Yep, literally for about a minute! nearer 7:45-8 the rest of the way round. Id eaten a lot the night before and it had a rocket fuel effect!!

When i do my commute-runs I do really plod as i'm bored of the route so it's actually really fun to go for a real blast.

FiftyNineOhEight · 10/01/2016 17:43

Absolutely emummy. I'm doing it for fun/out of interest rather than because I need the qualification, but it takes up an awful lot of effort for something that was supposed to be fun!

It wasn't you who just handed in a dissertation/PhD project was it? Or was that RTTH? Or someone completely different?

In good news, I think I might have a new lunchtime running buddy - my previous running buddy changed jobs and moved too far away for lunchtime jaunts, and because I had nobody to hold me to running I pretty much stopped bothering. But a friend of a friend works very close to me, wants to run and is more or less my pace so we are in touch Smile

4.7 from me- just a run around the roads tonight, in the rain and dark, alone, sob! My usual Monday partner is still away as she's Australian and that school gets their long holiday at Christmas.

I'm psyching myself up to brave track night tomorrow. It's 4 x (4x500m) at 5k pace. 1 min between reps, 2 mins between sets. Only problem is I'm not really sure what my 5k pace is. If I use my10k PB pace and adjust it down by 10%, will that be about right? Worried about blowing up in front of everyone but equally don't want to look like a slacker. If anyone can share the difference between their 10k and 5k pace it would be appreciated.

450.93

familygermsareok · 11/01/2016 14:37

2.6 this morning, nice and squelchy along a muddy track.

Thanks suzanne, I don't think I've been the easiest to live with recently, DH is almost as happy as me to see me get my running shoes back on!

Wow, lastqueen well done on that pace. I've only ever managed that on a bike. I sometimes imagine my garmin being all impressed with me if I'm using it on my bike Grin
Good luck for your race and target time this weekend.

New running buddy sounds good FiftyNine

Keyser good luck with your track night tomorrow too. I don't have any experience of proper training and pacing so have no useful advice. My 10k PB is actually 8s faster than 2x my 5k PB but different races over different terrains so it's not really equivalent.

MyBlackCat · 11/01/2016 17:27

Don't you just hate it when you feel like you've done a really good run, putting in a big effort on the uphill strava segment so you can get a trophy, then you go to end the run and your gps was lost in the first half mile - that Sad

Gutted as I felt great - anyhow it was 6.5 miles, first run since NYD after a week of skiing. Think I should go skiing more often if this is how I feel running after Grin

Anglaise1 · 11/01/2016 17:27

Family welcome back, such good news that you are running again.
Fifty and Emummy very impressed that you are both doing OU courses as well as working, that's not easy. I studied for a post grad with a full time job and it was really tough. I never finished it because I got pregnant Blush
Glad you have found a new running pal too fifty running pals are great motivators! I can never do fast runs as fast on my own as I do when running with my friend Laurence (we are both about the same level).
Keyser when I do 500m reps they are in 2m10s. I've never done a 5km race on the flat so I can't help with a time but I'd say no more than 10%, the difference between 10k and 5k of other people I run with is no more than that.
Suzanne yes, the PITA is a PITA and not getting any better. I must do my stretches after running. Don't really want to take a week off as there are only 9 weeks to the marathon.
7.5 easy miles with the dog today

I used to stretch Anglaise (daily yoga practice) but stopped several months ago, I'm skeptical about the benefits especially on top of all the stress that the ligaments get from running.
I noticed a reduction in pita when I stopped the yoga, not that that is proof of anything of course....
