A 3.59, 3.51 and 4.01 from me. All on the treadmill - weather been rubbish.

Good luck to all of you with races coming up!

1199.81

14 on the treadmill! I would have been wobbly for ages after that!

MadFatRunner · 29/08/2015 11:00

3 treadmill here, weather is beautiful but time is short and it's so much quicker to do it at the gym sometimes

1199.81 + 3 =

MadFatRunner · 29/08/2015 11:01

1202.91 (3.1)

Purpletoes · 29/08/2015 13:57

Parkrun today it was hotter than I expected. It was also my locals 6th anniversary so lots of cake after it! 1206.01

FlukeSkyeRunner · 29/08/2015 14:53

I got my new running shoes today, these ones:

www.upandrunning.co.uk/asics-womens-gel-cumulus-17?

They feel great. And are shockingly bright :)

The shop was fab, they matched the web price and threw in a free pair of socks. brilliant!

I'm really tempted to run in them tonight but I can still slightly feel shin splint pain so I'm trying to resist...

suzannefollowmyvan · 29/08/2015 15:26

12 miles from me
1214.91
big [thumbs up] for the running shop Fluke :)

Anglaise1 · 29/08/2015 15:47

Well done to all you treadmill runners. I just couldn't stand the boredom, even if it is raining, hailstones and gale force winds I'd still rather run outside! Well done on your Parkrun Purple sounds fun. An nice shoes Fluke the brighter the better! I used to always run in Asics until running ruined my feet and one nearly doubled in width.
My friend finished her 100km ultra trail in the Alps in 24 hours. Her experienced OH and another guy from the club both got heat stroke, threw up and were unable to finish. Women are often better in long race because they don't go off too fast and have a better regular pace. I always seem to pass men in a very bad state at the end of long races.
6 sociable miles from me after a run with a friend who has just come back from 4 weeks holiday (because in France, they can with often 45 days leave a year to compensate for 35 hour week Envy)

yikes, that sounds nasty :(

apart from being a bit better at keeping the old ego in check I think women's smaller body size (more favourable surface area to volume ratio) and smaller muscle mass would help guard against overheating?

Even so I'm surprised that experienced runners would get into trouble.

I guess the increased adrenalin in a race may block out danger signs that would other wise tell you to slow right down and take it easy?

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/08/2015 18:23

Popping on to place mark and so this goes back into my active threads list. Will catch up now.

Anglaise1 · 29/08/2015 18:42

Some interesting points there Suzanne. Maybe men are more liable to get heatstroke...they certainly seem to sweat more (in my club, anyway!)
And yes, maybe the adrenalin is responsible for experienced runners making mistakes. One of the older guys in my club is terrible, he has always run loads and has done many ultra trails but frequently ends up not finishing because he vomits so much due to the effort/heat/whatever.

Treadmill I found was ok- it had a telly attached! Another 6 today. Travelling one tomorrow and looking forwards to being back outside on Monday 1226.91

The heat stroke sounds awful :(

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/08/2015 20:14

Lots of good running here! A paltry 7.1 to offer since I last posted.

734.78

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 29/08/2015 20:15

Sorry! I must have been on another page!

1234.01

suzannefollowmyvan · 29/08/2015 20:22

you ran a magic number of miles ohoneoh :o

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/08/2015 10:22

This is strange.

I knew I posted on this thread last night, but it's not in TIO.

I knew it was in exercise, but when I go to the topic I can't see it on the list of threads.

I found it by searching for it on the MN homepage.

Is it only me? Have you all run away and hidden from me?

KeyserSophie · 30/08/2015 10:49

ohone Sounds like you've accidentally hidden the thread. Hopefully posting on it will unhide it.

12 from me to make 1246.01. Did the race, Far too much road (albeit traffic free) for my liking and was wishing I'd worn road shoes by half way, as the 10k of trail was doable in road shoes and I think I'd have benefited earlier on. Didn't push myself hard enough either and not sure why. Feel far too okay Grin. Haven't seen the results yet (not live) but think I was 5th or so in category. Ah well. Got a month now until the 2 Peaks (23k) and then the big night marathon 2 weeks after that, and then the 70k 2 weeks after that. Then I'm just going to eat cake until Christmas.

Re heatstroke, sweating should make you less prone to it I think as you get heatstroke because your body is producing heat faster than you can get rid of it and people who sweat a lot are better at temperature regulation. My friend just finished UTMB- not sure of his time but 36hrs-ish I think

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/08/2015 11:12

Thanks Keyser - but it's still not there Hmm. As you say, I must have hidden it, but goodness knows how I did that (or how to unhide).

I can see the thread when I am logged out.

I can't see it when I am logged in, it's not on TIO or TIW.

I searched your user name (while logged in) and found other threads you have posted on, but not this one.

Then I searched "running thread" (while logged in) and found it again.

I'm going for a run!

suzannefollowmyvan · 30/08/2015 11:15

you'll need to unhide it, cant remember how though!

Neeko · 30/08/2015 12:54

Hi all. Did my very first 10k race today in 70 mins. Not fast but I'm really pleased with myself. Nice tshirt and medal at the end too. Smile

1252.21

cinnamongreyhound · 30/08/2015 13:31

Well done Neeko and KeyserSophie!

I did run Norwich today, inaugural 10k in Norwich, it was a great race even though the start was very slow! I really enjoyed it and did much better than expected 57:42 by my watch Smile 1258.41

Neeko · 30/08/2015 13:52

Thanks Cinnamon. Well done to you. Can't ever imagine running at your pace! Smile

HalleLouja · 30/08/2015 14:01

3.4 miles to add here. Volunteered at parkrun then went for a run later in the day. 1261.81.

Well done anyone who raced today. Neeko I have managed to drop 6 1/2 minutes from my original 10k time in a year. Anything is possible.

Neeko · 30/08/2015 14:32

That's impressive Halle. I guess you never know!

suzannefollowmyvan · 30/08/2015 16:44

I dont know what my race pace is but my 'easy' pace over 10-12 miles has gone from 11:00 to 9:30 in the past 8 months, that's without doing any speed work.

if my experience is anything to go by then speed sort of floats up on it's own if you just keep running

MyBlackCat · 30/08/2015 17:21

I did 2.5 treadmill intervals the other day so 1263.31

I running in an actual race tomorrow up and down hills, forecast is wet so expecting it to be a muddy one Smile Ive not had to pin a number to a vest for years!
