Bloody hell - that 7 min Davina exercise DVD

stevienickstophat · 15/02/2015 08:36

It works!

I've been at it a week. Before that, did fuck all exercise for YEARS. Ended up with a bad knee every time I tried running etc so gave up.

This was a last ditch attempt to stop my body basically falling off, and I was attracted by the fact it would all be done in seven minutes and at least I could tell myself I'd done something.

It actually frigging works.

(Promise I don't work for Davina. Booble plate, river of sweetcorn, cube of poo, pombears, elderly Korean lady.)

But if there is anyone who was like me, who hates exercise and just generally CBA with gyms etc, this is cracking.

Ooh, ooh, another Little Difference!

I just ran up the stairs and practically flew! Legs didn't ache, heart rate didn't go up, breathing stayed steady.

Little differences....

I have been doing various Davina DVD's for about 5 years now and love them.

My core strength is really good and I feel strong and healthy. I tried doing Jillian Michaels, but I just found it too hard core and it hurt my knees. I think Davina is lower impact but I think that means that you can sustain it longer.

I went to some filming she did recently for her Getfitwithdavina website and she is honestly so lovely. We were there fore about 4 hours and she spoke to so many people and really wanted to know what people think and was so genuine. I know she's not everyone's cup of tea but she really believes in what she does with regard to fitness and does it because she wants other people to be fit and healthy like she is.

Anyway, I am a bit of a Davina fan so I am really please to see so many people trying her DVD.

Ledkr · 20/02/2015 21:08

I'm joining you all from tomorrow. I love the shred but my knees suffered so much. I'm zumbaing twice a week so will do a couple of the 7 mins ones on the other days.
I'm going to diet a bit from Monday too. I've just had another fat holiday and I'm fed up Hmm

HelenaVagBasket · 20/02/2015 21:09

Tonight I did the tone & sculpt, legs, then the stretches. I feel so energised now! Need to work on my balance though, i'm a bit wobbly on the lunges. I put some music on too which I think helped motivate me.
No little differences yet but it's only my 3rd day.

girliefriend · 20/02/2015 21:19

Hmm just had a look on Amazon the 7 min workout is £12.99, the 15 min one from last year is £5 - anyone tried that one? Grin

HelenaVagBasket · 20/02/2015 21:26

No but maybe you could buy it and just do half of it ? Grin

girliefriend · 20/02/2015 21:39

Ha - yes thats what I thought!! I am on a tight budget not sure can justify £12.99 to get my lard arse into shape, but £5 I reckon I could justify if it gets me moving!!

WhenMarnieWasThere · 20/02/2015 21:40

Today's update.

OUCH!

Sore legs, yesterday's efforts making themselves known.

FairyPenguin · 20/02/2015 22:52

I'm doing the 15 min one. Love it!

Moodykat · 21/02/2015 08:55

So although I didn't enjoy the box fit one yesterday it is certainly making itself felt! Stomach muscles very sore today and legs aching! Think I'll have another day off today! lazy cow

Showy · 21/02/2015 10:34

Morning all.

Sorry I disappeared days ago. We may as well paint a cross on our door and have done with it. DD came down with norovirus which segued nicely into a hideous virus which DS then came down with. He ended up with tonsillitis and a very nasty perforated eardrum. DH and I came down with both illnesses simultaneously and I've had a record 4 days off working out. I have HATED it. I've visibly lost weight and felt rubbish as a rubbish thing. Why is it always at half blooming term?

Anyway, feeling much better today so have just done:

Box Fit
Ultimate Abs
Ultimate Fat Burner
Legs
Box Fit
Tone and Burn
Box Fit

Good to be working out again.

I really like the 15 minute DVD btw. I have to say, I do prefer the older DVDs from an enjoyment point of view. I smile a lot more. But the 7 minute one is functional, to the point and adaptable in the best ways. The abs position is extremely effective too if done right. It's made a massive difference to my lower abdominal muscles and I incorporate it in other workouts too.

I have a sneaking suspicion that some of you will have a few more Davina DVDs before 2015 is out...

DilysMoon · 21/02/2015 10:54

Just done my first one the fat burner, amazed myself that I managed it and reasonably well too Grin Note to self not to do it in the kitchen while there's a banana loaf in the oven though, hot!

stevienickstophat · 21/02/2015 11:02

Goodness me, showy, you poor things Hmm

Glad you're feeling better.

Well done, Dilys. You can eat your banana loaf guilt-free now!

I've hopped on the bandwagon and downloaded this a week ago. So far I'm loving Ed's combinations.

Today I did ed's FAT BURNING COMBO!

Beginners – Fat burner, box fit*, fitness challenge

And it was easier today than a few days ago.

Unfortunately my appetite has increaases too and I've just eaten two bags of crisps...balls??

Showy · 21/02/2015 13:32

McSmoke- brill that it's getting easier, time to do more?WinkGrin- are you drinking enough too? Exercising obviously makes you thirstier but thirst feels exactly like hunger. When you start to feel 'thirsty', you're actually already dehydrated. I wouldn't worry a jot about two bags of crisps but sometimes, having a drink and waiting a bit before eating can show whether it's actual hunger. Don't listen to me though. I have never and could never diet.

I am shattered now. 4 days of D&V, 10 days of broken sleep and ill children and I think I'm in need of a nap. DS is looking sleepy too. He's only 3. It's cruel to make him nap alone right? When he's under the weather? I should just crawl under a blanket with him for a couple of hours. For him, obviously. Yes, yes, I'll do that now.

girliefriend · 21/02/2015 13:34

O.kay have bought the 15min workout one Grin also ended up getting Davinas kick the sugar habit cook book -flipping Amazon-- I am counting on you Davina - don't let me down Wink

IAmAPaleontologist · 21/02/2015 13:57

You like to do things properly don't you showy Grin

mine is still in wrapper. NIght shifts, deadline for evidence file plus ds2 has the chicken pox which he would like to announce "really hurt and are not nice" in his best high pitched crying voice.

Floopledoop · 21/02/2015 14:47

Sorry to hear about the various household illnesses doing the rounds, hope you all recover soon!

Not done any today but did 2 hour walk with the dog and baby yesterday and rode my horse yesterday and today so my legs are killing me today. Will do some tomorrow, think I will try the fat burning combo McSmoke recommended

HelenaVagBasket · 21/02/2015 14:52

Anyone else really struggle with the press ups? I am hoping after a few more goes they will get easier but owwwww.

PeaceOfWildThings · 21/02/2015 15:07

Sorry to hear about your nasty brush with bad health, showy.
I woke up and wanted to do some gentle stretches this morning. Had a go at a few self styled squats and body weight holds. Made breakfast, and that was enough for me and I needed a nap! I'm not going to risk this chest infection turning into something serious. Napping is essential to recovery! Grin

Am so looking forward to starting this next week with these short bursts of exercise, and building some strength back up. The thought of being pain free and able to run and breathe and stay awake all day at some point soon is keeping me going.

Make the most of it!

stevienickstophat · 21/02/2015 15:34

Never tried the pressups, Helena - can't do 'em.

If anyone is interested in making changes to their diet as well, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's new book is brilliant. I can't eat wheat or oats, and am trying to cut down on sugar, and there are some brilliant recipes in there.

Today's Little Differences

Walked up six flights of stairs no problem.
Got some of those M and S Seventies flares and they look really nice. Have NEVER fitted into M and S jeans before - am delighted!

AriNi31 · 21/02/2015 16:10

My DVD arrived this morning! Quick question - are people wearing proper "workout" clothes to do it in? And trainers?

stevienickstophat · 21/02/2015 16:45

I get changed into workout gear - well, ratty old tracky bums and any old t-shirt, usually.

Nothing stopping you doing it in your pjs, so long as they allow you to move. I wouldn't recommend jeans or anything restrictive.

I'd always wear trainers, though, to protect your knees.

OP posts:
McSmoke · 21/02/2015 17:01

Thanks for the dehydration tip. I really don't drink enough water, so need to consciously up my intake.

I'm a bit braindead today and can't recall if the link to Ed's combos was on here. I C&P'd them for easy reference. Not sure if I'm allowed to post them, so wil remove if not...
