conquita · 04/11/2013 03:28

Following on from ErrolTheDragon's October Shred thread:

Another month, another chance to start/restart/continue the 30 Day Shred, or similar - ripped in 30, NMTZ, whatever your preferred form of torture exercise with Jillian you're welcome here for support, advice and motivation!

30 day shred - Level 3 day 3 done and a lot easier today! used a yoga mat which I think has made a world of difference and my elbows are very grateful for.

Lydia :-D

Shred all done, cleaning done and now having a warming raspberry and chilli tea before going out for my run.

I might look seriously at the other JM workouts in the new year, I've given myself and serious shake up this past few months, and I like the new me, but I'm struggling with running, I want to crack that.

conquita · 06/11/2013 22:58

Shred has gone out of the window this week, I was supposed to shred today but last night I went to a pilates reformer class and it was full on, so thought I would give myself a break today and just walk home, and shred tomorrow. I plan on shredding level 3 throughout November and then starting ripped in December.

L1D4 done. Managing to do the Natalie moves this time around - except push ups - and it's going well.

How are you getting on with c2k TLABG? I really enjoyed doing that and it set me up for regular running for a couple of years. Had to stop due to a foot injury a couple of months ago and I miss it. I might go and walk my route later - it's a lovely time of year to be out in the fresh air.

I'm already thinking about which JM workout to tackle next. Problem areas for me are tummy, bum & hips so I'm thinking of No More Trouble Zones - anyone here tried it?

TheLeastAccomplishedBennetGirl · 07/11/2013 09:33

Conquita, I find having a break gives my new energy when I start up again

When I first started shredding I really struggled to do it every day and I found myself with more and more and excuses. Having a break relieves that pressure for me, and now I'm finding breaks are shorter.

I'm enjoying running, very much,

ErrolTheDragon · 07/11/2013 09:34

L3D1 of Ri30. Some of the moves (especially the ones on one leg) are pretty evil!

Will - I don't know what NMTZ is like; my Ri30 came in a box set with one called Killer Buns and Thighs, I had a look through the first level of that and thought it looked pretty intense (and longer than shred/ripped) - that might be worth looking at perhaps?

WillColbert · 07/11/2013 12:15

Thanks Errol. I took a look at the Killer Buns and Thighs on Amazon. The reviews say it's really tough but effective so it could be just the thing for a post - Christmas blitz. As an added bonus I could put 'get killer buns' on my New Year's resolutions list which would amuse me.

Evening! waves

I'm a shred virgin, I bought a copy when I was pregnant (DS is 7m) and have been too scared to try it, I have about half hour spare every other day, is shred feasible in this time over 2 months? Also, I've heard that there are some exercises you can't do due to the impact pregnancy has on your stomach muscles?

Sorry for all the questions, did I mention I was a virgin? Wink

conquita · 08/11/2013 04:54

hi Secret virgin!
I don't know the answer to your question as I have not yet been with child, but I am sure someone will answer your questions. Welcome!!

Yes, TheLeast - I am hoping this break will give me energy when I restart. Have to say after the pilates from Weds, I still ache in places I did not know exists. So I think I have found a good combination of exercises at last!

Keep it up everybody Smile

L3D2 of Ri30 done.

Hello Secret - Half an hour is perfect, and every other day, if you manage to do it consistently, would be bound to show results I'd have thought. It'd just take a bit longer (esp to get through the killer first 3-4 days when you wish you lived in a bungalow... if you do it you'll find out what I mean!)

There was I think some discussion of post-pregnancy abdominals on the October thread, if you can find that and look through it.

WillColbert · 08/11/2013 09:29

Welcome Secret. It took me ages to get the Shred DVD out of the wrapper (and I didn't even have a newborn baby) but I'm really glad i did eventually get round to it. As Errol says the first few days are the hardest but it's a great feeling to get through it.

L1D5 done.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 08/11/2013 09:36

Hi Secret :) my DD is 5 months and some of the abs stuff I find surprisingly hard (like lying flat on back and raising my legs off the floor together...I just can't do it! Don't k is whether that's from pregnancy or just saggy tum though!) I'd be interested to hear how others find it.
D1 L3 today, I found the cardio much harder but found some of the strength okay. Thought it was more geared towards arms/core, seemed to be lots of plank pose stuff (perhaps that's just what I remember most vividly because i struggle with it!)
What do people do when they've done the Shred, start at level one again with more Natalie?
Well done all for sticking with it, I found getting up this morning a nightmare (bit of a motivation slump)

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 08/11/2013 09:49

Not dd. Ds. Poor little boy, he already gets called good girl all the time and called by his sister's name!

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 08/11/2013 10:14

Thanks for the warm welcome, I may even get it out of the wrapper today!

Thanks ErrolTheDragon I'll take a look on the October thread.

ssmile · 08/11/2013 10:30

Hi. I did shred L2 yesterday for first time in a year. I lost 3stone last year whilst on mat leave with DD2 by walking lots and shredding 3x a week. I've been cycling more but my core strength has gone really weak so time to get shredding again. Plus I've put 7lbs on in last 6mths and I'm not going down the slippery slope again! Gosh it was hard going jut great buzz again. I could still do a few full push ups so all was not lost but had to adjust a couple exercises for my sore back.
Got poorly toddler on sofa today so FingersXed her tummy bug doesn't go through the family and all my motivation will disappear again for another week.

SecretLimonadeDrinker · 08/11/2013 18:21

I'm so annoyed, I had good intentions and then got a call saying that our financial advisor missed a form and would be round to complete it, thought I would wait until he left to do it so I can shower and slob out, he is still not here and I need to start dinner now Angry

Have also signed up for a zumbathon on a whim, I will be rocking in a corner fit.

RSVP · 09/11/2013 17:41

Hi all!
I started shredding on Monday and managed to do 4 days L1.
I am going clubbing tonight after 5 years (!) does it count as exercise? and none of my old clothes fit...
My motivation is to get into those supper skinny glitter jeans in a month or so...

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 09/11/2013 19:14

Of course it's exercise, dancing is exercise! How did you feel after four days? Day 2-5 I could barely stagger!

RSVP · 10/11/2013 13:08

I was expecting worse tbh, as when I started a year ago I gave up after just 4 days because I could barely walk.
This time round, I'd had a couple of weeks on wii fit so it was a bit smoother. It still hurts when I go to the loo though.
Off to do today's...

WillColbert · 11/11/2013 09:10

Welcome ssmile and RSVP!

L1D6 done - Monday is always the hardest after the break over the weekend.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2013 09:50

L3D3 of Ri30 done.

RSVP, the first 4 days are the worst, you should start to feel less bad from here on in if you stick with it.

Also I'll give my top tip - do the quad stretches supporting yourself with the free hand on a chair arm or suchlike so you can do a really good stretch - its hard to do properly while balanced on one leg. Jillian gives this tip but not till L2 and its at the start that you really need it most.

Elly - 'some of the abs stuff I find surprisingly hard (like lying flat on back and raising my legs off the floor together...I just can't do it!' - neither can I - it just doesn't happen. I find that any abs things where the legs are straight rather than bent tends to make my back arch up rather than being flat on the floor, and then that hurts - and that's one place where it seems foolish to push through pain.

ElleBellyBeeblebrox · 11/11/2013 16:00

L3 d2 today.Realised I make a pretty pathetic superman, can't get my boobs off the floor!

ssmile · 11/11/2013 20:36

Not been able to shred since thurs. Tum bug hit DD2 badly and now hit DH who is never sick off work and spent all day in bed &not fit tom for work. This means the precious 45mins exercise time I normally eek out on Tues between work&kids pick will vanish as I have to do both drop off &pick ups :( so FingersXed bugs go and I can squeeze some shredding in Wed instead! I did do 3hrs of walking today with buggy instead :)

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2013 20:58

Bad luck ssmile - my DH was laid out by a horrible tummy bug a few weeks back, hope yours feels better soon. But 3 hours walking is good!

bugdem · 11/11/2013 21:01

Hi everyone, hope it's okay for me to join?

I'm a fitness virgin, literally do nothing all day but sit at my desk in work. I'm getting to my mid twenties now though and noticing my weight is creeping a wee bit so want to do something about it.

I did L1D1 today and my thighs are screaming already. No idea how I'm getting down the stairs in the morning!

I got 1kg weights, is that okay?

ErrolTheDragon · 11/11/2013 21:13

Of course you can join, bugdem! Smile

1kg is fine, you may find you want to get a heavier pair in due course for some of the moves but its best to start with something that allows you to do the moves with good form.

No idea how I'm getting down the stairs in the morning!

We know ... painfully! But we've survived, you will too.
I'm afraid your thighs will hurt for 3-4 days - but they won't really feel worse for doing the shred while they're sore, and it does wear off. See upthread for tip on quad stretches - and do some extras.
