I can get a long-sleeve running top from sports direct pretty cheap I think. Will have a look, thank you!. Constant running from next week?? Yikes.

RunRunRuby · 15/01/2014 16:09

Do you use biological washing detergent? When I use non-bio it doesn't seem to get sweat out of stuff but bio does the trick. I wear a long sleeved top and a sleeveless jacket, I get a bit warm towards the end.

lookout · 15/01/2014 18:55

I stopped using bio when ds2 developed eczema. I would prefer to use it on my and dh's stuff because we stink but it would be a nightmare swapping between powders for us and the kids and the towels etc etc. Don't want to spend a fortune if I can avoid it so hoping that a long sleeve top will do the trick, with perhaps a jacket if dh will let me. Like this one and this one. Or is both overkill?

UsedToBeNDP · 15/01/2014 19:46

W7 R2 done. Didn't fancy it much, work was crappy but ate almost a full bag of mini eggs today and had to do it. Glad I did.

lookout · 15/01/2014 20:15

Well done UsedTo. That's one of the things I love about running, it de-stresses like nothing else I know.

HalleLouja · 15/01/2014 20:22

lookout I wear one of these with a running jacket either from Karrimor or this one I bought when I was feeling extravagant here.

RunRunRuby · 15/01/2014 20:29

lookout those look good, I wear this one without the sleeves :)

cinnamongreyhound · 15/01/2014 20:45

Mine is more like that HalleLouja but I just bought a bike top which is like the one you linked to lookout. It's a bit warm for me on it's own most of the time but I wore it Sunday morning when we had a hard frost and it was perfect.

Thanks all. Am gonna get a long sleeve top and regular running jacket. Kind of tempted by the lightweight running jacket that Run linked but my budget isn't gonna stretch that far. Hopefully the others will do Smile

FeliciaHardy · 17/01/2014 12:00

Not managed to do any running this week until today. My DS has been ill with tonsilitis plus it was his birthday Wednesday and I worked overtime yesterday, so been pushed for time. If I don't go running in morning I don't feel like doing it any later.
So I got out this morning and continued onto week 2 even though I probably should have just had one more go at week 1. First 2 runs were slugglish but I got into my stride for last 4 runs and mnaged to do it all. Hopefully next week will go smoother.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2014 12:17

Sounds like you've done well in a busy week FeliciaHardy!

Managed w6r2 today but it was hard work. Am actually quite anxious about run 3 as it's 25m continuous. Am really tempted to re-do r2 before even attempting r3.

cinnamongreyhound · 17/01/2014 14:48

You did w6r2 and you'll do r3 lookout, believe Wink

Eye of the tiger lookout

W7 R3 for me today - 25 straight eeeeep

lookout · 18/01/2014 09:57

UsedTo what app are you using? I have to do 25m straight on my next run which is w6r3. Tomorrow. Yikes. My heel is hurting today though. I seem to have more trouble with my feet now the distances are longer. Not sure whether to see the doc or go to the running shop. Good luck for everyone running todaySmile

HalleLouja · 18/01/2014 10:03

Lookout I would try the running shop.

I have now finished. Though the last week and a bit I have been running just over 1/2 hour and managed to run 5k the other day in a very slow time.

Am thinking of another week of running with out a programme and then onto the improvers 5k. Decisions decisions.

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 11:30

Hi lookout, it's a 10k one for iPhone by clearskyapps, 10k Runner.

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 11:38

The first 8 weeks are a 5k trainer, awarding incremental distance badges along the way. Wk8 is 28, 30 & 35min runs. Run 3 @ 35min being the one that 'awards' you your 5k badge. By end of wk14 you should be running around 10k straight in about an hour.

lookout · 18/01/2014 13:00

That is an interesting one. Did you do a 5k one first?

Will pop into the running shop this afternoon I think.

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 13:53

No, I did a c25k before a few years ago, not an app, it was printed off one of the websites (I think Race for Life?). I then fell off the running wagon for a good 18mo-2y and so was starting from scratch again this time.

This 10k one is designed to be used by total novices from w1r1 and so it seemed like a good option as personally, I'm much more interested in (and comfortable at) distance than speed. Completing the 5k but doing it faster doesn't grab me. I want the stamina and psychological ability presented by the challenge of distance.

HalleLouja · 18/01/2014 17:20

I need to get to 10k by June. Am thinking its doable even at my slow pace.

Not sure if I should try and increase my speed first and then work on distance. I can't go much slower so may keep at the 5k for the next few weeks and then move on at the end of March. That would give me nearly 10 weeks to get to 10k.

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 17:49

Halle, mine takes you from sofa to 5k in 8wks and then 5k to 10k in a further 6wks, so I should think your goal of 10wks is doable even if you need to repeat runs or break the training up a bit.

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 17:52

And yes, I'm slow too! I 'run' on a treadmill, so I know the speed is a paltry 8kph.

lookout · 18/01/2014 17:54

Right, the running shop advised I repeat weeks for a bit, or alternated one session that pushes me with one that I know I can do easily. Do that for a couple of weeks and see how my feet are. Problem is I cannot bear the thought of staying on week 6 of the NHS program as I'm fed up to the back teeth of the music. Does anyone know an app I can get which lets me use my own music and input my own intervals?

UsedToBeNDP · 18/01/2014 18:23

A case of too much, too soon, lookout ? That's a shame. The 10k app I use allows own music but not own intervals (there's a 5k version).

When I ran before, I didn't use an app and used to set my stopwatch on prev android mobile with the intervals pre-run and listened to my music as usual through headphones, the alarms cut through the music. Not sure if my iPhone stopwatch allows similar settings to be done, probably does.
