Lookout well done you. Am now on day 3 so will do 30 secs today. wish me luck.

RunRunRuby · 24/01/2014 10:26

Hi dharma I had a look at the Park Run website a while back to find my local one, not been though, but it said something about if you want to walk or have a pushchair then please start at the back so there may well be others slower than you :) plus it sounds like a supportive environment so I'm sure it won't be too embarrassing. You probably will manage to run the full distance if you have to. Good luck!

Faithless12 · 24/01/2014 14:22

I've been planking for a minute, today I barely managed 45seconds. I ran Week 4 R1 this morning and I'm feeling a little (very) exhausted.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/01/2014 20:32

You'll love it DharmalovesDraco!! 11 min miling gives you a 33 and a bit minute 5k :). Parkrun isn't about running the whole way or finishing in a particular time it's about getting out meeting people and running YOUR 5k. I love love love parkrun!!!!!! We have a course record of 16 1/2mims and I've done it with my ds1 (6) in 49 mins and everything in between. Our youngest runner is 5 and our oldest 75!!! We all enjoy being active, some walk, some walk/run, some jog, some run. We have children, adults, pushchairs, a 3 year old who cycles along while his dad runs, dogs (including me with mine some weeks). Parkrunners are lively welcoming people and no one will laugh, you may even get cheered over the finish line. The rd will talk to all runners at the start so you'll know any little querks with the course and be welcomed.

Haven't been out since Tuesday Sad. Have had this awful cold and feel so tired I just couldn't face it. We've been ill for two weeks now with one thing or another and I just don't want to push it, so am taking the time off until I feel better then will start week 6 again. For the third time Grin. Hope everyone is doing ok.

HalleLouja · 27/01/2014 12:49

lookout hope you are feeling better soon.

Have been out a three times a week for the last few weeks. Am quite enjoying it. I need to keep going and not lose momentum.

FeliciaHardy · 27/01/2014 20:11

I'm really struggling with this.
When I tried it last September I did 3 weeks of 3 runs and even when I didn't feel like getting up and running I talked myself into it quite easily. Was gutted when injury stopped me in the 4th week.

This time round I've only managed 4 runs in 3 weeks and easily talking myself out of running. I need a big kick up the arse! I have had a mild cold and just feeling shattered before I start.

I have been doing the 30 day plank challenge though. I'm about half way through and can manage 70 seconds now, not as many seconds as I'm supposed to be up to but I only managed 10 seconds on the first day so not complaining!

HalleLouja · 27/01/2014 20:51

[Kicks Felicia up the arse]

lookout · 27/01/2014 20:57

Felicia I totally sympathise. I started late last year and had no trouble getting out at all, even getting up at 6.30am on Christmas Day to go for my run! but since the new year, I've found it so difficult to get myself going! One thing after another with my feet, colds, sickness and generally feeling very tired with poorly people all around me, just means I can't get myself back into it.

I'm planking too, but it's not the same as running Sad. I miss it. We must get our arses in gear Grin

Faithless12 · 28/01/2014 11:00

Tomorrow is Wk4 r3 and I'm dreading Wk5 already. I've been using the RunDouble app and set it up for distance by accident so I've been running 1/4 mile, walk 220 yards, run 1/2 mile, walk 1/4 mile and repeat. The last 1/2 mile run is hard. I need to slow down but it's only in the last 200 yards I really realise I need to slow down.

FeliciaHardy · 28/01/2014 13:24

Yes Lookout, definitely need to get arse into gear. The thing is I know that after a run I feel so much better but even telling myself that isn't making me do it!

I AM going to get out tomorrow morning, couldn't this morning as had to take cat to vets. Cat sabotaged my planking this morning too as decided to sit underneath me then attack my hair.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/01/2014 14:20

Did you get out FeliciaHardy? This time Of year is really hard! Going tonight on my own and I'm not looking forward to it but I know I'll be happy once out!

OP posts:
Faithless12 · 28/01/2014 15:18

Felicia I am finding that I don't want to go out and run. I'm faffing about by the door or just generally faffing to avoid going but once I start I'm fine. You're not the only one, I'll be out tomorrow morning

lookout · 28/01/2014 16:00

My cold is feeling far better today so may be tempted out tomorrow morning. There are frosts forecast though...

DharmaLovesDraco · 28/01/2014 16:41

Thanks Cinnamon, I'm equal parts excited and terrified! I managed to run 4 k yesterday so will aim for 5 tomorrow.

I found the only thing that motivated me to get out running was knowing I had this park run deadline, I've run in all sorts of horrid conditions that I never would've ventured out in usually :)

HalleLouja · 28/01/2014 18:47

Today I had a Runkeeper fail. It wouldn't find my location. So had to run with the timer only. I think I managed to run faster than normal on one of my routes. I thought I wasn't going fast but think I must have knocked some time off my route.

cinnamongreyhound · 28/01/2014 21:28

If you know the route HalleLouja you go on mapmyrun website and plot distance :)

Glad you're feeling better lookout!

I got a friend of mine to try c25k, today she ran 5k, only 2 1/2 weeks later!!!!!!!!!! Shock

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 28/01/2014 21:53

I know the distance as have made the run a number of times. Its my evening run when its not safe to go off road. Am pretty sure I ran it faster. Just need to keep speeding up so no longer plodding.

FeliciaHardy · 29/01/2014 11:14

Yes Cinnamon I got out! Despite it being cold, grey and drizzly I did it.

I skipped last week of run 2 (since it would mean 3 weeks of doing week 2) and did Week 3. I think part of the problem is repeating all those runs I've already done so not feeling as challenged as I did last time, though I've not found them easy either.

I managed the week 3 run but it was definitely more of a challenge.

And yes Faithless, I find as soon as I get into the first run I'm fine, it's just the initial telling myself to go out and run that I have to force myself to do.

DharmaLovesDraco · 29/01/2014 12:25

I've just done my first actual 5k in 34 minutes

HalleLouja · 29/01/2014 13:20

Well done Dharma!

lookout · 29/01/2014 13:39

Dharma that's brilliant, well done!
Felicia well done to you too! I know what you mean about repeating runs. I've been stuck on week 6 for almost a month because of various problems so am not seeing any progress at the moment and that does make it harder to get out. Well done on rising to the challenge Smile

I didn't go this morning, but plan to go tomorrow. Come on, lookout, woman up!! Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 29/01/2014 17:43

Well done FeliciaHardy, and great news that you're progressing :)

That's great DharmaLovesDraco, you'll be fine at parkrun Grin

Come on lookout! We'll be watching for a post tomorrow Wink

Time for me to delurk, I think! I've been reading this thread for a while. I started C25K back in November but I only got as far as the end of week 2 then I got extremely painful knees, so I stopped for a while. I think I took it too fast. I started again a few weeks ago and did w3 r1 yesterday. I'm very surprised at how much I like running! I always hated sport at school and have never done any structured exercise before (I'm 32 now).

I can still feel a feint weakness in my left knee sometimes when I run, so I'm trying to run better (on the verges when there is chance, making sure I land on my right foot when going up/down kerbs etc) and so far it seems to be working as I've got further this time than I did last year.

I'm not massively overweight (5'6, 64kg) but I'm very unfit and squidgy here and there after having the kids.

Finlaggan · 29/01/2014 20:47

just joining the thread as a newbie (to c25k not to mn) just done w2r2. feels good to be exercising again. I will get fit for summer!
