Welldone MadMonkeys and Finlaggan! I always feel really excited when I find new people doing ct5k Grin

Mad Do you have proper shoes? I only ask because I had real trouble with my knees to start but once I got my gait checked and proper shoes fitted, the pain stopped immediately. I also surprise myself at how much I enjoy running (current lazy spell excepted, of course Wink)

cinnamon my stuff is all laid out and I am off to bed now so as to have no excuses Grin I'm starting week 6 again. For the fourth time Angry

lookout I run in asics shoes, they're very comfy but I've never had my gait analysed. I am considering it but money is a bit tight just now so I'm putting it off.

Worth looking into when you can afford it. I saved up my birthday money to get mine, so know how you feel Wink

Well, I finally managed to get out this morning. Upped my pace a little bit and it felt great! I've put my back out though. I think it was the double plank I did yesterday, coupled with the run this morning. I just can't believe how unlucky I am with exercise over the last 6 months. Every time I try to make an effort, something goes wrong. I can't tell you how upset and frustrated I am Sad

Got out this morning and did week 4 run 3. I haven't planked for a couple of day.

DD and I ran W2R3 last night but as it had been a week since we last got out we are going to repeat it at the weekend then start W3 next week. I only looked tonight at what is involved next and dont believe I will be able to run for 3 mins as I barely survive 1.5!!!

I got pain in my right knee again from about the second set onwards and its stiff and painful this morning. It hurts most when I take the weight off it and move my lower leg from side to side. The trainers I am wearing are a pair of Dr Scholls Fitness Walkers (the kind designed to tone your bum as you walk) so I don't know whether its them throwing my knee off when I run. Hmm

Hi, I was a regular here a while back and would like to rejoin the chat and general motivation/advice you guys give. Is that ok? (Some may even remember me????)
I didn't stop running, but seem to lose time to 'chat'. Anyway, hopefully I'm back…
DS and I are now 45 parkruns and are trying a little fell running. We have had a few races - the climbs kill, but the downhill is great! We have also joined a little running club and are doing some interval training once a week. I am waiting to see if I have a place in the GNR (fingers crossed).
Well, anyway, how are all you guys?

It sounds very likely dizzyday07!

Welcome back pennygallops!!! I remember you :) I did my first half marathon in November and I'm doing another in march. I'm also on the parkrun thread although not done as many as you!

Hello all. Long time, no post. Today I finished the 5k element of my training programme (w8 r3).

Next run is where the 10k training starts proper. Yay Grin

Hi cinnamon. How did you find the HM?

Think I'll drop in on the parkrun thread too. Volunteered this morning but ran with my DS at his triathlon training this afternoon. Very windy up here today!

It was hard! I wanted to do it under 2hrs and I pushed myself but it was pretty hilly and I died around 9miles, got my pace back at 11 and did it in 2hrs 1min but I didn't enjoy the last 7 miles so this time I'm going to take it a bit easier :)

Just reread my earlier post, I'm on week 4, not 3. I've noticed my hands are very dry and chapped since running in the rain and cold these last couple of weeks - do any of you run wearing gloves? Or would they just make me boil?! I've been getting a lot hotter running week 4 with those 5 minute running intervals...

Report
cinnamongreyhound · 01/02/2014 20:40

My friend who I run with wears gloves, I personally don't like to but I'm pretty minimalist when it comes to clothing for running. My hands get quite swollen when I run in the cold, I guess a combination of cold wind and increased circulation isn't good, so perhaps gloves would help!

That's a good time cinnamon. When/if I do a HM I'm aiming for 2.15 - 2.25.

Madmonkey - I wear gloves in very cold weather. Mine are Karrimor ones that were about £4. Very light weight. I also like long sleeved tops with thumb holes, they help take a bit of the chill off.

How long after eating do I need to wait before I go for a run?

Report
DharmaLovesDraco · 02/02/2014 11:10

I did my first Parkrun (did someone say there was a PR thread?) in35.08, it was hard and as I finished I told my sister never again but am going to do one next Saturday Grin. I am so proud of myself, 5 weeks ago I couldn't run at all!!

I really need to sort my breathing out though, I can't seem to get it right which I swear slows me down Wink

Report
UsedToBeNDP · 02/02/2014 11:19

Congratulations Smile, Dharma. I'm still to work up the courage to PR, might try it when the weather turns (ours is a trail course in local woods and is like a quagmire atm). 35mins is a good time for a new runner, I'd say!

My breathing is all over the place too. I find it easier if I 'sing' (mouth silently) along to my music as I'm going along, I seem to get less 'gaspy' !

Parkrun thread is here DhamaLovesDraco. Well done!

There's no set time lookout, for me it depends how much I've eaten. If it's a small meal I can go straight away but I know others who need to wait a couple of hours.

Did w6r2 (10r, 3w, 10r) today and it nearly killed me. It is a beautiful day and went out at about 11, and the sun, in February, was just too hot!! I am so used to running the dark and cold that this sunny weather just felt wrong Grin. The last 5 mins were a nightmare, I was exhausted. My hip was also very sore after running, though it feels a bit better now. Going to redo the same run on Tues before moving on to the dreaded 22m (which I haven't yet done, I've been on w6r2 forever!).

My parents are coming to stay next weekend and dh has suggested we do a parkrun (he's a dab hand Wink). According to my app, my whole thing, including warm up and cool down is only 4k, so how on earth I'm gonna manage to run 5, I do not know Shock. The very thought of it is making me weak!!

Well done Dharma. I was so panty by the end of my run I sounded ridiculous. I do breathe in and out by my footfalls, I find it helps a bit, so 4 in and 4 out to start with, moving to 3 when I get knackered Grin

DD and I repeated W2R3 tonight. Legs like lead and didn't quite make the full 90secs of a couple of the sets but extended the last run set by about 20secs!

Our nearest Parkrun is in Abingdon but I think it will be a while before we can run 5k though I have found a 3k around Green Park in Reading in May that we may go for!

Well done Dharma, you'll be chasing those BPs soon.

lookout if you have done wk6r2 you'll be be able to complete a park run. I marshalled at my local PR this weekend and there was a whole host of abilities in the 200+ field. It was great to see.

I've had a bit of a frustrating running weekend - lots of watching, particularly my DS but not much running myself. At least my cold is on the way out now. Just researching my next 'race' … I'm feeling inspired after watching my DS to do at a fell race. Very muddy!

dizzyday - you could walk/run a parkrun. I have done that a few times with my DD - mainly because she was on a bit of a nature hunt picking blackberries and finding conkers. Grin She's not a runner. Sad

I had a very undignified run today. W3R2 is done though but was very tough. Where I run the first half is uphill before crossing road and coming back downhill, it's not a steep incline but even on the slightest of incline I find it harder running. Today was a cold wind and I was running into it going uphill, I didn't feel I was getting anywhere! When I turned to come back downhill I had to stop myself from going freefall as felt much lighter.

On top of that a broken umbrella flew out at me when passing some bushes causing me to leap to the side with a shriek and then I felt the waistline of my running pants start creeping down my butt, so was pulling them up everytime I stopped to walk. So glad no one was about this morning! Blush
