MaireadnotMermaid · 28/10/2013 20:11

ran 8.5 km today, in the wind!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 28/10/2013 21:30

Thank you :)

Cinna This is me pretty much just starting from before DS1 and he's 2!

Mairead I hope you aren't somewhere that has the awful wind just now?

cinnamongreyhound · 28/10/2013 21:40

I'd never run before I started c25k but wouldn't have thought if it so close to having a baby Grin

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 28/10/2013 22:18

Ahk, tbh with two now, one being a very energetic toddler, the running doesn't feel so much like work yet. It's nice to be able to get some head space for an hour. :)

MaireadnotMermaid · 28/10/2013 22:35

Schro not so much wind here. We escaped lightly to be honest. Blustery at best.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 28/10/2013 22:45

That's lucky,we were lucky as well, I'm up in Glasgow so we just had horrendous rain (I could probably go for a swim in my back!).

MaireadnotMermaid · 29/10/2013 16:29

Hmmm slightly sore today. Not paying enough attention to stretching methinks.

Has anyone read Run Fat Bitch Run? Is it worth investing in a copy?

cinnamongreyhound · 29/10/2013 17:58

It's on my Christmas list :)

I just ran 5k! Shock Shitty time (34 mins) but it was freezing outside ...

Woo!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 29/10/2013 21:47

The run fat bitch run marathon guide is only 99p on amazon for kindle... Wink

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 29/10/2013 22:46

I've officially finished c25k but haven't decided where to go from there so just ran for 30 minutes again.

It was a comfortably paced slow run. I had some upsetting news today and just wanted some time alone really, but I managed 4.3kms which is ok.

I still need some kind of a plan to follow now that c25k is done.....

Iwearblack · 29/10/2013 23:10

Well done iwish you have graduated! Sorry to hear you have had bad news though.. Have you investigated the NHS follow on course? I havent been brave enough to listen to it yet.

I have completed week 8 so 3 runs to go before I join you! I have started to track my distance using the google maps ipad app and this seems to give a longer distance than my pedometer. I used a stride length of 50 cm to calibrate the pedometer but now am wondering if that was too short?

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 30/10/2013 08:05

Yes the NHS choices website has three 5+ podcasts that look like they might be just the job.

One is a 30 minute run, one is a 16 minute speed run and the other is a 35 minute run. I'll get DH to put them on my iPod (I have no idea how to even do that) and hopefully get out on Thursday after I've taken ds's trick or treating!

Bollard · 30/10/2013 12:30

Congratulations Iwish and sorry about your bad news.
I did W8R1 today and really enjoyed it. I do a linear run and generally I'm running into the wind for the first half, and have the wind behind me on the return half. It was nice and mild to start off with but with a lovely tailwind on the way back. My crappy phone didn't work properly so I couldn't measure how far I ran. Probably not a bad thing as I can feel thrilled at my lightning pace without being pulled up by the harsh truth!

Running outside in the morning is lovely. I really enjoy getting home after my run and having a shower, then starting my day feeling energised and as though I've achieved something.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 30/10/2013 22:15

Right - the next set of podcasts are on my ipod and I'm going to try the 16 minute speed run (fast/slow) tomorrow after I've taken our ds's trick or treating!

I will get to 5k in 30 minutes!

nextphase · 31/10/2013 11:20

Iwish suggest staying clear of "stamina" for a few weeks til you've got the other 2 podcasts under your belt.

Enjoy!

Bollard · 01/11/2013 09:53

W8R2 3.36km. I'm knackered!

chirpchirp · 01/11/2013 11:08

Hello all, can you join this thread please?

I started C25K and am about to start week 5. I've never liked running, been a fat kid, fat teen and fat adult and have always done my best to avoid it. I need to lose weight and don't have the money to spend on a gym membership so downloaded the app and after a few failed attempts feel like I'm getting somewhere. I finally GET running. I look forward to it. If I don't get out in the morning before going to work I look forward to getting home to go for run in the evening. This is very strange for me! I finally worked up the nerve to weigh myself at the start of the week and went back to the scales today and have lost 4lb this week (even with all the Hallowe'en chocolate that was scoffed last night!). It's working and its free!

Anyway just wanted to come and hang out here and siphon any tips you might be willing to share.

muddyprints · 01/11/2013 21:56

going to try my 2nd parkrun tomorrow, but I haven't run in a week and every time I run lately my legs feel heavy and my hips ache and im getting slower.
going to go and try because if I don't I might just give up.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 02/11/2013 00:08

Will do!

Thanks for the tip nextphase

I'm planning in making my Parkrun debut on 809th November so have just a few more runs before then! I'd love to do it in 30 minutes or less.......

cinnamongreyhound · 02/11/2013 18:53

Welcome chirpchirp, I started for a very similar reason and got the running bug. That was Jan 2012 and I'm doing my first half marathon in two weeks Shock

How was your parkrun muddyprints?

Wow November is going to be long this year IwishIwasmoreorganised Wink

It's very quiet here at the moment, only been out twice this week but planning my last long run before my half will do a mid length next Sunday as son attempt at tapering!

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 02/11/2013 20:18

Ha! Typo! Next Saturday will hopefully be my Parkrun debut!

Tonight's weather has flummoxed my plans for a run. I've only been out once this week - half term has messed everything up! All being well I'll manage Sunday, tuesday, Thursday then Saturday for the week ahead.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/11/2013 20:32

It's dry here but mega windy! My neighbours have had some fireworks and they've been blowing right over our garden.
