I've been failing to run this week - half term mostly to blame but feel I could have fitted it in somewhere. Last ran on Monday which is not good.

Mum51965 · 02/11/2013 22:58

I am just starting c25k and am looking for support. Anyone doing it in Stirling area? Otherwise online support would be good x x

MirandaWest · 03/11/2013 11:51

I went out for a short but windy run. 3k in 17 min 25 seconds which was OK I think :) Got me running again after 6 days off anyway Blush

MaireadnotMermaid · 03/11/2013 12:04

Did w10d2 of 10k runner, which follows on from 5k runner. It does interval running so 70 mins in total. The next run is 80 mins. I have an hour to spare tops x 3 per week so struggling to fit it in.

Positives of running so far:
Lost 6pounds
MUCH fitter. GP commented how much more puff I had.
Sleeping better
ME time. Away from DC.
Excuse to escape during visit from evil SIL and her brood

Iwearblack · 03/11/2013 14:21

Oo 1 run to go for me (before graduation!) Managed 4.4 km in 30 min at w9r2 so pleased with that (my pedometer reckoned I'd done 3km so I prefer my google maps estimate!)

Incidentally I have not lost any weight at all during this programme - my thighs feel tighter but no loss on the scales. I have a normal BMI (just) but would like to lose another half stone if I could. I lost nearly 2 stone by 5:2ing ( which I still do). Maybe I have reached my limit? Anyone else lose any weight a few weeks in?

chirpchirp · 03/11/2013 15:21

Thanks for the welcome cinnamon.

I have been doing the C25K training through the week and the last two Sundays I've been going out with a friend whose really into running (bless her it probably takes her twice as long with me plodding along). We ran/walked a 6k circuit along up and around a coastal path in just under 50mins. It's really good as when I do c25k training I usually do it on flat paths around my house whereas the coastal path has a lot of hills and uneven ground, it makes going back onto paths seem so much easier.

I'm going to weigh myself again tomorrow and if I deem the number good enough might treat myself to some new kit.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 03/11/2013 16:39

I've just done the interval training run of the 5+ podcasts. It was good, useful for when time is tight as it's only 16 minutes of running.

I'm amazed that I now consider 150 strides a minute to be a rest!

CiderwithBuda · 03/11/2013 16:59

Hi all. Welcome to all new people.

I haven't run since last weekend but am hoping to get back to my Mon/Wed/Fri routine from tomorrow. Only problem is my knee so I am of sure how I will go. I think it's arthritis. I might go to doc to see. I had keyhole surgery about 13 years ago on it. It s th actual knee cap bit that hurts. Esp up and down stairs.

DH reckons I should give up the running and just use our elliptical trainer.

UsedToBeNDP · 03/11/2013 20:32

ouch @ your knee niggles buda. It is v hard on the knees. Treadmill running is kinder on the knees but not by much. Maybe easing off and trying something else for a bit would be sensible, running on an injury is not good ! Go easy on the elliptical too though as you're still weight bearing. Rowing is a good alternative as your knees aren't weight bearing and it works lots of muscles (more than running).

UsedToBeNDP · 03/11/2013 20:32

Hi all, I've not C210k'd for a while. I have been running but my PT has given me a new training programme and so I've been doing that instead. It's still interval training but includes other equipment too, not just treadmill, so I can't devote my session only to running (it only makes up 15min of my cardio section now). It's a bit of a shame, I miss it a bit but I'm enjoying the variety and pushing myself more with the other work.
I might try to do one or two sessions of just treadmill a week though, tie in a bit of my 10k plan again as running is my favourite.

originalpiratematerial · 03/11/2013 22:40

Hi all, been away for a few days but have fitted in some runs. I've done a couple of 7k runs and a a couple that have been between 6 and 7 k. Feeling quite pleased with how my stamina is coming on, less pleased with creaky right hip/lower back Hmm

MirandaWest · 04/11/2013 09:50

Went running with my bf this morning - was cold and crisp and v sunny. He can go quicker than me I think Grin. Did 3.05k in 17 min 17 seconds (he did say that was a new best for him though so maybe we spurred each other on).

chirpchirp · 04/11/2013 10:41

Did day 1, Week 5 this morning before work. Seemed fairly easy after doing the longer run/walk at the weekend so hopefully my stamina is now building. Still enjoying it and haven't died which both come as a big surprise to me.

Bollard · 04/11/2013 11:27

W8R3 - still pretty slow - 3.5km in 28 minutes, but I think if I run any faster I wouldn't make it to the end of the run.
Iwearblack I've not lost much weight, about 2kg. I've also been doing a boot camp twice a week and hugely cut down on chocolate/general crap so a bit Hmm. I've' lost 8cm round my waist though and I feel much stronger and fitter. I was just over normal BMI, but I'm quite small-boned so could do with losing about 6kg.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/11/2013 12:12

Welcome Mum51965!

Definitely a good start to getting back on it MirandaWest Grin and a second run, bet its like you haven't been away!

That's long for a 10k MaireadnotMermaid suppose the fact that you're walking some bits makes it slower?

I lost weight when I did it Iwearblack but I was calorie counting with mfp so expecting to. I personally think you can always lose more but it's whether you will be happy while eating that few calories Grin are you sure you need to? Not suggesting you don't know your own body but sometimes when you focus on weight loss you have something unrealistic in mind. Running definitely builds muscle so take that into account too :)

I reckon you'd be better with a physiotherapist than a gp CiderWithBuda, GP's will often say if it hurts stop doing it or give you pain killers and not work on hy it's occurring and trying to help you keep doing something that you enjoy.

Well done chirpchirp

Ran with my dogs yesterday but overlapped a bike race so wasn't as relaxing as I would have like, almost cried as one cyclist shouted at me despite tryin to get out of everyone's way :(

Whoops, wifi failed which mean refreshing an obviously posting twice Blush

OP posts:
muddyprints · 04/11/2013 14:45

well my 2nd parkrun was 2 mins slower than my first and I felt like I was trying, oh dear Sad

Iwearblack · 04/11/2013 19:06

Yeah I just need to enjoy feeling fitter and not obsess about the weight! Was your second park run along the same course muddyprints?

MaireadnotMermaid · 04/11/2013 20:30

That and the fact that I run like an old lady cinnamon!! Grin

muddyprints · 05/11/2013 14:18

yes same course, finished couch to 5k and did a parkrun straight away in 31 mins, have since run 3 miles runs twice a week for 2 months and now it took me over 33 mins.
I am finding it harder, cant get going, I don't know how to pace myself, im scared if I set off faster I will end up walking so I go reasonably slow and obviously must be staying slow.
thinking about just going out and running quite fast till I need to walk so I get used to running instead of joggin/plodding.

Iwearblack · 05/11/2013 18:05

Well I did it! 5 k in 37 minutes so I guess that makes me a plodder too but so chuffed to have graduated! Grin
I think I will do w1r1 next just to feel how much I have progressed....

MirandaWest · 05/11/2013 18:19

Well done Grin

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 05/11/2013 21:13

Oooh... that was painful! Having had a few weeks off with a pulled muscle and tried a tentative short run (OK, slow jog) last week, I actually went out for a full 30 minutes tonight. I don't seem to have fallen apart yet (might feel different in the morning though) but am quite depressed by only managing 4K in 30 minutes Sad I had managed to get sub-30 minutes 5K before I was injured... 29 min 50-something, admittedly, but still under 30 minutes. How long will it take me to recover my, ahem, speed?

CiderwithBuda · 05/11/2013 22:03

Cinnamon - you might be right. We have private me insurance a might see if I can see an ortho. Will try physio first.

I ran today. Attempted W8. But hadn't downloaded podcast so it died. Decided to just ring and use stopwatch. That died too. So I ran the distance (roughly) that I was doing on w7 runs. Knees sore tonight. At this stage I just want to finish the 9 weeks so will carry on I think.
