sticky that's a great time - well on target for GNR!

I think I am appreciated...got to pack my running kit in my rucksack - should manage to get a run in on Tuesday morning.

DD has been a total star today - there's a kid who is bothering her at nursery and I think some of the playing up is her trying to process it. I don't think there's much we can do: they know about it, he's a big kid prone to hitting, she's a little kid who isn't. He picks on her :(

Finally adding myself to the race list. Been to scared to until now, because doing this makes it REAL! Gulp.

I should say that DP definitely appreciates me - after all, she did just transfer her tax allowance to me :o

Sleepwhenidie · 04/09/2011 19:55

Ds2 is a bit better today thanks orange, still wheezy but he has been cheerful enough and ate some dinner. Have just given him calpol and cuddling him to sleep as I type.

I have to say I am so glad it's the end of the school holidays, the other two DC's are driving me up the wall with the whining and tantrums (DD), feigned deafness and answering back (ds1) and constant bickering. Not sure they would survive another week of being with me all day every day. We need some routine and a bit of space from each other again. Anyone else feeling like this?

Piffpaffpoff · 04/09/2011 19:58

Sorry Orangehead, that might have been me getting a bit trigger happy with the list.

stickylittlefingers · 04/09/2011 20:18

Rhet - that's true love all right!

well done piffpaffpoff - Aviemore 10k sounds beautiful and ever so slightly scary... what's the course like?

Orangehead - I hear you... though Wednesday is going to be weird - my first day with them both at school. Gulp!

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 20:21

poor little DD is desperate to go to school 'like the big girls' (there are lots of kids on our street, all older than her, and she is in awe of the 8 year olds)

sticky I am planning my future around the day that they are both in school - much good it will do me seeing as they finish at 1.10pm here Hmm

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 04/09/2011 20:22

Also rhet - my sympathy for your DD with the horrible sounding boy. DD1 and a friend of hers had similar problems with a "big boy" when she started school. The school did deal with the problem at that time, but it seems to be ongoing, although not directed at her in particular now. I guess it's one of life's lessons, dealing with bullies. But it's horrible.

Piffpaffpoff · 04/09/2011 20:22

I haven't done it before but it is mostly on road and, I think, mainly downhill! It starts at Loch Morlich and then heads down to Aviemore. It will be nice scenery for me to look at and take my mind off the pain!

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 20:26

well I mentioned it when I dropped her off and without saying 'oh yes, he's a horrible bully' the nursery worker said 'um yes, well, yes, we are aware of it, he is a problem...'; i just asked them to keep an eye on him around her, but she's scared of him, and says things like 'A won't hit me today, will he?' as we are on our way in :( She's not overtly upset, but she is unsettled by it, I think.

I'm not sure what can be done, but I might talk to the manager about it next week

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 20:26

OP posts:
sfxmum · 04/09/2011 20:27

hello all amazing how the weather turned, blazing hot sunshine yesterday pissing down today

badger regarding podcasts, sometimes I listen to some crazy American bloke talk about running while he runs, sometimes to the economist or things from the BBC but not comedy, repeat not comedy Blush most unwise

Peach hope new bed is working out ok, I forget when you are due, how is going?

same for rhet and partner, shame about the race but seems to make sense, and you certainly do not seem to lack enthusiasm and motivation

n4nny how are you feeling with enforced tapering?

Fanybanjo going out of comfort zone makes you better, is what I keep telling myself while catching my breath

sticky well done on parkrun great time, seems to be a good sort of event
must pluck up the courage to go and join as have one near me

moshi hope your ankle is not troubling you much and heels quickly

drN & orange good times, improving and enjoying it seems Wink

sleepwhenidie hope ds is better

master our cab driver today was going on about your neck of the woods, apparently his dad is from there and he as visited several times 'they are mad there bro, mad' was his verdict Grin

I am sorry about the troublesome tots every age has its challenges but at least when they are older you can switch off a bit on occasion and leave them to their own devices without much peril

we all went out for some running but did not manage an awful lot but at least did a few miles, had been running a low fever over night and during most of the day, must see the doctor soonish as it feels very much like a bladder infection going on from past experience, bother hate going to the doctor
perhaps not too smart to get soaked despite quite enjoying the rain while running Hmm

sfxmum · 04/09/2011 20:30

rhet that is awful, it is hard to find the right way to help them, not only process the feeling but also find coping strategies
frankly I have on occasion felt like slapping a couple of little ones, not really, but ykwim, my little girl and they dare make her miserable

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 20:33

sfxmum DP wants to kill him...totally agree with you about comedy podcasts , but then I mostly hate standup anyway. I'm a documentary woman, really - I like finding out random facts about things I know nothing about, and it's so much easier than actually reading a book!!

hope bladder infection isn't, IYSWIM. Off to watch telly now

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 04/09/2011 20:42

I did the Moray 10k this morning and it was unbelievably sh*t. Ugh. It was so hot, I woke up with a sore back, I started too quickly, I couldn't get my pace right etc etc. All excuses really - was just crap. Angry

Oh well, onwards and upwards eh? Baxters 10k next.

N4NNY · 04/09/2011 20:53

Endorsed tapering is not good I've felt rotten all weekend hardly got out of bed yesterday and not really much better today. I'm starting to cough now which is not good news back to work tomorrow after a week off. Gggrrrr why couldn't I have got ill at the beginning of my week off not at the end. Taking vit c and zinc and just hoping now not sure what else I can do :(

N4NNY · 04/09/2011 21:10

^^ enforced not endorsed dam iphone

fannybanjo · 04/09/2011 22:06

Only just got found time to come on here and typing hard as have VERY sore wrist... Hmm Not from tossing off DH though (thank god!) Moshi you little minx you... I had you down as a posh bird, seems not hey?! Wink I laughed out loud at that hand job comment, DH wishes, I can barely fit in having a wee never mind much else, plus it's too bloody boring anyhow!

sticky what zone are you in? Thanks for advice and brilliant time today!! I think you and I will be pretty similar time wise if all goes well on the day.

Rhet grrrrrrrr at the bully boy however DD will start to stick up for herself eventually, most do. DD3 is a bit timid and doesn't stand up for herself out of the home (although we give her sisters what for!). At nursery it is hard because the kids are so young. Hope things improve. How far did you get on your 2 hours today?

wheely welcome back - hope ankle ok, I have no (touch wood) experience with twisted ankle, just be careful not to go out too soon.

possum sorry you didn't have a good run - how did you get on?

N4NNY you still feeling awful? I get a LOT of colds and usually find first 3 days awful then it gets better. PARACETAMOL all the way, every four hours and night nurse for bed time.

Right let's get to the running.... Did 14 miles this morning, 2hrs 13m. Brilliant run, perfect weather. Average pace of 9.33m/m and started off slower and got faster which was the aim. Started at 10m/m then got up to 8.30m/m last two miles which was fine, best run had in ages. I really really enjoy long distance and definitely going to look at Marathon for next year. Wrist been painful but was fine during run and couldn't take drink out as wouldn't have been able to carry it, stopped into shop at 10 miles and got Lucozade Lite Sport which was great, I usually buy the full fat one but that's all they had, worked just the same.

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 22:11

fanny 11.5 - but as I say, I lost about 15 minutes to toilet breaks...grrr.

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 04/09/2011 22:50

Was 1:00:51 in the end - hated it! So disappointing. And I've just been offered a place in the GNR and am swithering... Don't think I'll manage it :(

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 22:56

possum - there's lots of people who'd be glad to do an under-performing 10k in that time...it's only one race, and of course you can do the GNR. It's hard to pick yourself up after a crappy race (I am Queen of the Crappy Race, just in case you were thinking of contending for my crown :o), but aiming for something else is a good way to slay the demons (nearly typed dragon as have had a whole day of indulging DD in her belief that she's a little dragon...)

OP posts:
backwardpossom · 04/09/2011 23:04

Yeah I know, I feel really ungrateful because a year ago I'd have been delighted with that time!!

It's not just the run (I possibly would manage that so long as I paced myself properly and didn't expect a good time), getting to Newcastle would be a nightmare. I live about 6 hours north of there!

SonicMiddleAge · 05/09/2011 06:47

Ah, every time I go away with work, I come back and the thread?s moved so fast it?s like I?ve never been here.

Fanny ? sorry about your wrist ? hope its settling down.

Rhet ? am sure everyone?s said this to you already, but when my dd was being a bit ?challenging? in terms of behaviour just before I had dd2, I was panicking about how we?d cope (you know the whole argh ? I can barely cope with the toddler ? how do I cope with a baby as well panic) ? one thing I really underestimated though was how much easier the second baby was than the first. I did however feel though that I barely saw dh for months ? it seemed like he was always off doing fun stuff with dd1, while I was sat breastfeeding dd2... But even that?s only for a while ? you??ll be fine, though I might suggest if you want to keep the streak going a second hand baby jogger for dd1 could be good idea! Also, the only unsolicited advice my MIL ever gave me (she?s very very good about biting her tongue unless asked for advice, regardless of my ineptitude,!) was when dd2 was born, just before dd1s second birthday, she told me to remember dd1 was really still a baby, and not try to tell her to be a big girl. Now dd2 is two, and I still think of her as my little one I realise how spot on she was, two is still very little to try and make sense of such a big change.

On the running front, I finally managed my weekend 11km lap in under an hour ? 59:23, but that?s still under the hour! And that includes two very slow first km (slightly over 6min), as I am having knee problems at the moment and it was quite sore until the joints warmed up. I will try and take it easy this week to give the knee a rest ? am planning two sparring sessions to keep up the cardio side.

MoshiMoshi · 05/09/2011 07:30

Reading but no time to post properly as DD2 starts school today. Go go running ladies. The fact I read about all your disatisfaction with your times tells me you are well and truly committed which is half the battle in getting your goal times!

Had annoying discovery when (and am going to sound like spoilt lady who lunches) saw that the recently engaged housekeeper who was hired to help with home situation on discovering mum's cancer had written on DD1's drawers in pen identifying where T-shirts, skirts, jeans etc, go. It is ruined and I will have to re-handpaint the bloody thing. When I asked her why, she said she thought it would be helpful (really? To my DD1 who has been using it for years finding things in her drawers herself? Arrrggghhhh!) Must remind myself her presence enables me to run....
