yes, I bike every week day anyway - with 28 lbs of girl on the back to nursery and then my work commute which is 6 miles each way - I'm hoping to get that under 30 minutes (I can do it in about 20 if there are no red lights or traffic - but that isn't what life is like!)

just out for a quick 3 miles before lunch - DP is wrecked poor love as she isn't sleeping well, so I envisage some hanging out with DD

Dont throw them moshi, you will regret it. Even if you hardly look at them its nice to have them there just incase.
kimberlina the running club near me takes kids too.
encyclo glad you got out, and hope dd enjoys her treat.
N4NNY Im sure you will be fine take some extra vitamin c and get some echinacea to speed up recovery and rest.
Well done on the parkrun sticky, I would love to be able to run it in that time.
Good luck for tomorrow emma
Well did 10k this morning, really struggled for the first half but did really well the second half and I carried on running past my loo stop and was fine till I got home Grin just hope I can do the same next week. I did it in 1 hr and 5 and 1/2 mins, so managed to knock a few mins off from last week Smile

DrNortherner · 03/09/2011 17:11

peach great goals there, all of which are achievable with your dedication!

Moshi how is the ankle now? Enyoy the New Forest!

Orange great 5k time, well done! I wish there was a park run near to me. I have to schlep to Leeds.

N4nny do not panic, you will be fine. Rest up, look afteryourself, you have put the hard work in so concentrate on getting rid of the cold. Vit C Vit C Vit C!

Rhet you sure sound like you are so looking after dp, do you think she has a touch of SPD? How long does she have left?

I did 10k this morning, took it steady, did 59 mins and stopped half way to chuck sticks in the river for teh dog. Didn't want to push the leg to much. Pain was 1/10 so totally on the mend! Really pleased. Back to speed sessions and intervals next week.

Happy running all!

peachsmuggler · 03/09/2011 19:22

N4NNY, am sure you'll be fine for next week and it may even do you sone good as will force you to get early nights and rest.

Sorry about the wrist fanny, am not too experienced on what to do I'm afraid. Hope it heals soon.

Sticky, glad you enjoyed your parkrun, great result too!

orange, great 10k run for you too, you are right on track!

Glad you are on the road to recovery DrNo, and thanks for the encouragement on the goals. Was knackered just going up the shops with DD and DP thus afternoon!

How's the ankle Moshi?

Sorry, forgot you had canned that race Rhet, good luck to Emma, if you are about!

peachsmuggler · 03/09/2011 19:30

Badger, the bed is built! Not looking forward to bedtime, though she does seem very keen on the idea of using it!

fannybanjo · 03/09/2011 19:56

drNo glad leg holding out Smile

peach thanks - it's still sore but I'll live... Grin Are you putting DD in the bed tonight?

Glass of Wine needed tonight. Really struggling with the DDs' today - doesn't help that I'm shattered but today a definite day I can't wait to end Sad. I can't remember a time when I had a minute of peace. DD2 currently crying with tiredness and just won't give in. I think I'll be asleep before her... tomorrow's another day hey?!

Looking forward to LSR tomorrow. I like the fact that I'm now in a routine re running, it kind of means my body is geared up for it whereas pre GNR training it was very haphazard.

fannybanjo · 03/09/2011 19:58

orange well done on beating your time from last week, it's amazing how quick you get your times down.

rhetorician · 03/09/2011 20:07

fanny I totally hear you on the waiting for the day to end front...DD being very trying at the moment - everything is a battle of wills...and she is busily telling DP to go away all the time (something to do with the baby, no doubt) but ended the day by giving her enormous, unprompted hugs and kisses.

5k run for me today, felt fine - nothing major. Going to go out and do 2 hours on my feet tomorrow - I'd say that'll be about 11-12 miles of LSR. This seems better than setting a distance and taking forever to do it.

Dr No - it's more than she isn't sleeping well and doesn't function well on minimal sleep. 13 weeks to go...

OP posts:
MoshiMoshi · 03/09/2011 20:30

Result re being able to run past your usual loo stop orange!

Sorry to hear some of you are so exhausted (fanny and rhet), it's a thankless job being a parent but the rewards definitely come, if a little later than needed to remind you why it is worth the effort.

fanny - sorry to hear your wrist is sprained. Um, thinking positively, maybe your DH will excuse you from Hand Duties Grin?

peachy - I hope DD was given a huge incentive to remain in her new big bed tonight? Hoping you crack it and get some sleep in before the new arrival. I always tried to bank as much sleep as possible in advance of a new baby!

Thanks for wishes re my ankle. I think I managed to avoid anything serious happening but am definitely glad I aborted the session and jogged home afterwards. Something I wouldn't have done previously I see to be so hell bent on finishing a scheduled session.

Currently in the New Forest which the dog loves. There's more horse poo than she can imagine eating in her wildest dreams Smile.

MoshiMoshi · 03/09/2011 20:32

Forgot to say am keeping dad's letters. Thanks for advising. [grateful emoticon]

peachsmuggler · 03/09/2011 21:11

fanny, yes she is in the bed and apparently asleep! Heard her playing about with toys (she has the light on) and she shouted on me a couple of times but by the time I got up the stairs she was quiet. Hope she doesn't fall out!

Massive symathies on your tough day fanny and rhet, I had one on Thursday which ended with me in tears feeling like a total failure as a mum, but a good sleep and a better day yesterday helped. It'd easy eh?

Moshi, your comment to fanny made me snort out my drink Wink

oh and meant to say orange, well done on running past the pee stop. That in itself will give you confidence about the 10k.

orangehead · 03/09/2011 21:21

Glad the bad going well peachs

orangehead · 03/09/2011 21:34

Sorry bed, must proof read

Sleepwhenidie · 03/09/2011 23:34

Hi everyone, I am snuggling in bed with poorly ds2, he has a fever and very wheezy chest, poor little chap. I have been catching up with all your posts on my iPad and feeling very left out as I don't have a Garmin! Bonkers it looks like it's just you and me that run without technological companions, iPod excepted of course Wink

I was very chuffed with myself yesterday, went out for a lovely run then came back and mapped it and it was 8.8miles, my longest ever. Was on a real high afterwards and started to wonder if maybe I could manage a HM....but today my hips/glutes have been so painful. Any ideas about why, does anyone else get this? It's never been a problem so far...what could I do to prevent it (other than not running so far Grin?

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/09/2011 05:29

Peachy, did you get a full nights sleep or did you have to get up to dd? I hope she didn't fall out.

Moshi, Hand Duties HmmBiscuit Grin. Glad you took it easy on your ankle, surely the best way to go, imagine getting a serious injury now.

Congrats Orange on passing the pee stop, I think you are doing brilliantly.

Idle, I don't have a Garmin either Sad. Just my sad little Nike+ for company. Great job on the 8 miles, you can definitely do a HM. I too have had sore hips and glutes and as my glutes got stronger the hip soreness eased off. So I guess some extra glute work to strengthen them should help, so something like pilates. I hope ds2 is feeling better today Sad

Ds1 is away at his cross country running camp. It's the first time he has been away on a trip Ds2 (4) who shares a room with him was most disturbed at bedtime and didn't want to sleep in his own bed. The trainer has sent some photos of the children running ds1 looked like he was having fun and was sticking close to his little friend. Smile

Sorry ladies about the tough toddlers. It gets easier but brings different challenges. Mine of last week was trying to get them to stop bickering with each other. Failed miserably of course...

Right, I'm away to do 15k, it's been a while so I may take a while.

DrNortherner · 04/09/2011 09:38

sleep you can do a half! Just need to build up to it. After my half training I had sore hips, just need more time on your feet, and as masters says, some strengthening exercises will help.

Peachy did she stay in the bed?!

Dh was up at 715am this morning to go out with his cycling club at 8.15am. So, I set my alarm for 6.30am to be out running by 7am, back my 8am in time for him to leave. My alarm went off and I thought 'sod this' and went back to sleep! Will go ahen he gets back instead.....off to do 30 day shred in the meantime.

Hope you all have a lovely Sunday.

peachsmuggler · 04/09/2011 10:02

Well she did stay in bed!!! Got up about 8.15!! Hope the novelty hasn't worn off by tonight!!

Sleep, am sure it's your body getting used to the longer distances, and having run 8.8 miles you will definitely be able to manage a half, well done!

Master, glad you got some photos of DS enjoying himself, must be a big milestone him being away, for him and you!!

DrNo, never mind the lie in, am impressed with you shredding and running on same day!

Am going to start doing my pregnancy yoga DVD regularly when DD starts preschool, to protect my poor back, as is already starting to hurt and am only 29 weeks!

ibbydibby · 04/09/2011 10:16

I am also a member of the non-garminified, in fact I never take any gadgetry on my runs...took my phone earlier this year, but forgot it was in the pocket of my running top, and chucked it in the washing machine, from which it never recovered. However with birthday this week, am hoping to treat myself, and join the Garmin club.

Sleep, well done on yesterday's run. Sounds like you could do a HM, as DrNo says you can build up to it - as long as you don't try to do too much too soon. Re the sore hips, do you stretch afterwards? (Says she, who often doesn't..) Were you running on different terrain? I find that makes a difference - eg I run mostly on the road, and find that I suffer when I go to a club session on a grass running track. Especially earlier in the summer, when the ground was very hard and bumpy. How is DS this morning? Hope he is feeling better.

Hope DD stayed in bed all night Peach.

Sorry about your ankle Moshi, and hope you are less exhausted Rhet and Fanny.

Well done re parkrun, sticky. I have become a bit obsessive about it - did my 24th yesterday, not my best time but have missed it for last 3 weeks due to holidays. Really noticed the difference, for the final 8 minutes or so I felt I had no power in my calves, ankles or feet. If of interest to anyone, yesterday was my 24th parkrun - I started taking part in August 2010, and since then have improved my time by 3.5 minutes. Not sure how much time I can shave off though, currently chasing a sub 24 time.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday!

rhetorician · 04/09/2011 11:27

was up at 7.15 to get my 2 hours running in and thought, I must be off my head! but it was a nice morning, and other than the totally drunk lads swaying along the towpath it was quiet and I only saw a heron. The first 30 minutes were a mess, had stomach cramps and the rest...Blush, but after that it was pretty good. A little short on miles, but will work on that.

Need to do some work today in advance of my trip to Cork - two nights in a hotel. Bliss. Seeing an old friend too, so looking forward to it

hope Sunday running has been good/will be good

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 04/09/2011 12:39

Well I just did 5k and it felt like i was running through treacle. Took me 27 mins which is not bad for a quick steady run. Will try and do a park run to see what I am capable of when racing.

Oh, and the leg today was worse than yesterday.......ice ice baby.

Sleepwhenidie · 04/09/2011 12:58

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone. Aching bum a bit better today, am going to swim for an hour later then back to the gym tomorrow after 6 weeks away, get in those squats and lunges as advised. Re stretching, I am actually pretty good-bonkers I always do it just outside the house when I get back, toddlers are guaranteed to distract you the very second you get inside and then all is lost Grin. if any bit does get missed though it probably is my glutes...not any more after yesterday!

Themasterandmargaritas · 04/09/2011 13:25

Dr No, perhaps you should be doing every other day until the leg is back to normal?

Sleep, now Ibby comes to mention it, my sore hip started after running on some rough ground when I was used to road running.

Well done dd Peachy! No one stays in bed til 8.15 in our house EVER.

I did 15k, 7k up a mega hill and 7k down the mega hill, with lots of small hills over the last/beginning km. It was a bit slower (3mins) than 15k this time last year, but it was v hilly. The local running club were going up the hill as I was going down, doing 16k training run. Lordy those people just bound up the hill. It's all very friendly though.

Ds had a lovely time at running camp. Smile Didn't miss his mama once.

stickylittlefingers · 04/09/2011 18:02

hi everyone, sounds like there's some great running going on!

Sleep, definitely think you could do a HM. An 8 mile start is really advanced (when I went back to running after DD2 I was running 1 1/2 miles, and built up from there. After 6 months I was doing a HM, so definitely can be done). My hips seem to just ache sometimes after some runs, never quite sure what triggers it. I blame DD2 who was bloody enormous and I don't think my hips ever recovered!

Fanny, this is my 3rd GNR. I assume your plan is to take the motorhome down to S.Shields in the morning so the family are there to wave you in at the end? If so, would recommend leaving plenty of time. I drove to S.Shields last time, left the car and took the bus back to the start. The bus took ages and the pens (the zones that they put you in) were really full - a nice man lifted me up and just shoe-horned me in (good to be a small person sometimes!!). The first time, and what I'll be doing this time too, I took the train to Ncle (I live in Durham), which gets me there in loads of time.

stickylittlefingers · 04/09/2011 18:06

oh yes, did some running too. I did 13 miles this morning in 2:11 (woohay!!). Then (this is the well 'ard bit) we all went and walked up Roseberry Topping (this is a hill on the N York Moors south of Middlesbrough - looks like the Matterhorn, very satisfactorily pointy!).

So now I'm a tiny bit tired...

Rhet you are doing a sterling job there. Sure your DP appreciates it, but in case she's feeling to tired to tell you - well, you're a star.

And Fanny look after your poor wrist. My mind is boggling so much about these Hand Duties I'm going to just leave it there :)

orangehead · 04/09/2011 18:19

sleep Im without a garmin too Sad. I'm no expert but I guess it's normally to be a bit sore when you have ran further than you normally do as you not use to. I normally feel a bit sore after my long run but then after a day of rest Im fine the next day to run again. Agree maybe some strength excerises will help. Sounds like you doing really well though and a half definitetly acheivable. How is your ds any better today?
DrNo I dont know how you get up early for runs. As much as I love running a lie in comes comes top priority for me.
Yay peachs Smile Im sure she will be fine tonight as well. I did yoga when pregnant with ds2 and really enjoyed it.
Well done master, 7k up a mega hill, wow. That would finish me off.
