DrNortherner · 31/08/2011 07:49

Morning all Smile

fanny let us know when you roadtest the new Garmin. The 110 is dead easy to use and you will not run without it once you start. Lol at your impotent announcement!

I went to running club last night with my sore leg, coach was away so I thought we were doing a group social run, steady pace. They guy leading us decided to run one of the clubs evening league routes. I can not tell you how many horrible hills we did, on road and off. Mud, sludge, rocks etc etc... 7.5 miles later we got back to the club house. If my leg wasn't already knacked it is now! Birds Eye steam fresh veg pack on my leg last night Grin Rest day for me today.

Wheelybug · 31/08/2011 08:37

Good luck for your dd starting preschool piff and am sure your dd will be ok Peach. I don't know if it would help but before DD1 started she was a bit worried about the whole leaving me thing and I bought her this book www.amazon.co.uk/My-First-Day-Nursery-School/dp/1582349096/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314775721&sr=8-1 and it really made her realise how much fun it was going to be and she never looked back. Although she is quite a socialable girl so was helped in that respect.

DD2 starts on the 14th. I think being the second one helps as she can't wait to go and is also going with a group of friends she knows already which will make it easier for her. That said, you never know how they will react.

Well done on the LSR N4NNY. You've done the distance now !!

I watched that programme on the walking wounded walking to the North Pole last night. Inspiring - it made me realise that if they can come back from broken backs, missing limbs and walk to the north pole, I can come back from a measly twisted ankle and run the GSR !! Just started on 'Born to Run' too.

Fanny - GSR is 30 October so 8 weeks on Sunday. I have run the 10 miles once about 3/4 weeks ago and have been running 8 miles quite happily and frequently since the start of this year.

TheChewyToffeeMum · 31/08/2011 09:54

Watch out Wheely - before you know it you will be out running around your garden in barefeet and thinking maybe those fivefinger toe shoes are not so hideous.

DrNortherner - sounds like you really deserve a rest day after that.

Morning all! So much to read...

At work so skimming is my friend.

Fanny congrats on the Garmin you will love it! The data is wonderful.

skimskimskim

Moshi you are running MACHINE

skimskimskim

*Piff congrats on the mileage. It's so exciting building mileage and finding out what your body is capable of isn't it?

Moreskimming

N4nny I did a 10 mile LSR last Saturday and my body is STILL pissed with me. I'm attempting it again on Sunday next. Managed 5 on Monday and attempting 3 today and a 7 on Friday. Last I read you'd completed 10.4 my word you have JUMPED up in mileage, many congrats.

Rhet delighted your dd is better behaved today, albeit she was at nursery ha ha! Keep streaking (you know what I mean)

Sorry to all I missed.

Getting ready to run a lovely easy, peasy, 3 mile this evening. I have a fabulous 10 (maybe even 11) mile planned for Sunday morning.

I seem to have become obsessed with measuring roads and routes while I drive along in my car. Everywhere is now a potential running route! WTF?

MoshiMoshi · 31/08/2011 12:08

Last day of holidays before DS starts the new term tomorrow. DDs start on Monday. Last lunch. Last play. Last blah blah blah. Looking forward to it actually as the routine calms the family I think. Arguments over trivial matters have started.

Did my Time On Feet run today. As I want to run sub-3:15 at Abingdon, I went out for a LSR of 3h15m. I ended up doing 24M in 3:16:02. I couldn't leave it at 23.xx when I reached 3:15 could I?!!! Av pace 8:10m/m. I really enjoyed just running for a set time rather than a distance and found I had plenty in the tank. I ended up running the last 5 miles rather faster than I intended around the 7:20-7:30m/m mark which is meant to be my MP. Oops.

orangehead · 31/08/2011 12:17

Morning all.
Hope your leg is feeling better soon DrNortherner.
I know what you mean encyclogirl I do the same in my car, it becoming a bit obsesssive.
Just done about 40 mins intervals round the park whilst my boys played in the park. All good except a stupid dog ran at me, he only wanted to play but still made my heart strop. I was not amused.
Hope it went well toda piff

orangehead · 31/08/2011 12:18

I meant heart stop, although it mightof had a strop too Grin

DrNortherner · 31/08/2011 13:58

moshi I like teh idea of a time on your feet run.....I'm with you on making it up to 24 miles. I can't end a run on an odd number either!

Have decided to not do Bradford half this year but will do more 10k's and possibly a 10 miler.

I have decided to heal my leg with positive thoughts instead of whining about it alot. I need to man the fuck up Grin

Wheelybug · 31/08/2011 14:23

I shall follow your example DrNo Grin

Themasterandmargaritas · 31/08/2011 17:48

Please can I have all your toddlers and I will swap them for constantly fighting 9,7 and 4 year olds? Why are our school holidays SO LONG? I pay so much in school fees, you'd think they'd shorten the holidays as a result.

Did a rubbish intervals session last night because a) took a friend's 13 yo ds along with him who announced he could run 5k in 21mins (grrrr) then proceeded to whup my arse around the 400m track. b) he then informed me the track wasn't 400m after all only 300m, damn. c) new sports teacher turned up and wanted to meet and greet and be all enthusiastic and all I wanted to do was get on with my running, instead I had to stand around being sweaty and charming. c) ds2 dressed as Batman kept cutting into my running route and making me trip over.

Did I mention I'll be glad when school starts again?

la la la, tra la la

DrNo, you are right tough now. I am very impressed and by all the others who are racking up the mileage. I need to push myself out there a bit more. And Moshi you are so going to be sub 3.15. Impressive.

Piffpaffpoff · 31/08/2011 17:58

Thanks for all the good wishes, day 1 went fine and DD has said that she'd like to go back tomorrow. Phew!

Wheelybug · 31/08/2011 18:31

Masters - I would have thought running whilst being cut up by batman would be good training for the London Marathon !

Glad all went well piff.

DrNortherner · 31/08/2011 18:33

piff glad all went well.

Like masters I have a know it all 9 year old I am will to swap for a 2 year old if anyone is interested? His new phrase is " You're a well tight Mum"

bonkers20 · 31/08/2011 18:38

OK, I have two boys, 12 and 2. Anyone want to trade for two or even three sweet little girl creatures?

orangehead · 31/08/2011 18:56

Glad it went well piff

fannybanjo · 31/08/2011 19:07

On iPhone so cue crap grammar and random spellchecked words such as impotent.. Grin

encyclo I too am a car clock maniac - usual convo between DH and I on way home.. Me "start the speedo!!!" "NOW"... DH responds a mile later "what???" me "oh ffs, too late now..." Suffice to say, i gave up on that plan and reverted to Google Maps!

Moshi I'm officially kicking you off the thread as you are not human. Definitely a robot and robots have no place on MN Wink. Bloody heck girl, 24 miles in 3hr16! On a training run? Kudos kid, kudos.... I have read that running to time rather than mileage is actually better as people get hooked up on mileage too much?

Master I take it you live in Kenya? how funny about the 13 year old boy!

Wheely and DrNo hope legs are healing well. Impressed Dr No at your run with club. So wish I was in one, I know I'd get my speed up to Moshi pace in no time -as if Grin

Piff glad all went well with DD!

Bonkers I have 3 DDs, I most certainly will trade for a week or so - you think girls are sweetness and light - a week with mine and you'd be running away to the hills Moshi paces also!!

I've messed up my Garmin order, Angry Amazon had my old debit card stored and knobchops me didn't check the email they sent last night. I needed to update with my new one so it won't be with me until Friday how will I cope??? it's a disaster I tell you, a DISASTER Grin. DH laughed his head off as I was flapping about trying to put new details on while kids were all screaming at me for a dozen or other unimportant things. My priorities are all wrong!

Rest day today. Need it - tired as kids up early so worked well really. Intervals tomorrow at 7m/m pace.

fannybanjo · 31/08/2011 19:29

Meant to say Orange dogs off leads and owners who can't control them are (pardon the pun...) a pet peeve of mine. I have had a few terrifying moments over the years with dogs.

Taking thread back to scary runs - I was once flashed at by two men in deserted lane in Wales once. I'm usually pretty fearless but that freaked me out plus some dickhead passenger tried to grab my bum a few weeks ago when I was running on the road. No wonder DH worries as there are some stupid people around - it may be jokey behaviour to them but to a lone woman in quiet area it isn't to me Angry

peachsmuggler · 31/08/2011 19:36

Moshi, that is some serious training run!

Thanks for the book recommendation wheely, will look into it. Got Peppa Pig book where george goes to playgroup from library today so using it to broach subject!

Glad it was a success piff, long may it continue!

Had to laugh master at batman cutting into your run.

Orange, was that dog dressed as batman perchance Wink

Fanny, that is a flipping disaster lady, you must be gutted. Hope it will be all the sweeter when it arrives on Friday.

We got a bed for DD on Monday and mattress arrived today. Already got duvet and obligatory Disney Princess (boak) cover. Luckily don't have any single sheets so can put off the inevitable for now. Think will build bed and put it in her room and let her decide when she goes into it as she has a lot going on just now with moving house,
preschool starting soon, moving swimming lessons (so far a disaster!) and baby striving in (eek) 11 weeks.

fannybanjo · 31/08/2011 20:20

peach haha brings back memories of DD1's first bed... Had beautiful Laura Ashley bedding at first then one day screamed for this god damn awful Purple polyester Dora Explorer duvet set and I relented Grin. I only gave in because she had a throw which I'd pull over it in the morning so the sheer ugliness of the purple monstrosity didn't wreck my day!! DD2 and DD3 share a room and as of yet, are not Disney Princessed up. DD2 wanted Cinderella one and DD3 wanted Toy Story one. I draw the line at that interior decor disaster...

rhetorician · 31/08/2011 20:36

peach you are a brave woman! we are in denial about the bed thing; having said that DD is quite small, her cot is quite big and she is very fond of it and likes having the side up - which of course means that she can't get out ha ha ha

can trade anyone a cute 2.7 year old girl - playing up something chronic at the mo - went to town to shop with tax refund windfall (just some new work trousers, nothing hectic) - more fool me. Should have stayed at home and done a proper length run, much more satisfying...

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 31/08/2011 21:31

rhet you can keep your 2.7 as I've a 2.6 and after today's strop in hairdressers she's lucky she ain't a 0.0....

rhetorician · 31/08/2011 21:39

fanny fair enough! it's funny how easy it is to forget how much one wanted to have them

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 31/08/2011 21:50

rhet EVERYONE struggles and the ones who don't are either comatose or liars. I spend 70/30 of my day between horror and bliss. It's bloody hard work being a parent and it's a thankless job however I did find that each DD I have had it's somehow got easier and there's nothing better than tucking them up at night, having a glass of wine with DH and talking about what they've done during the day. It'd be a sad world with sons and daughters...! You'll he fine, you're probably getting nervous that another DD is on it's way and how it's going to affect you all. She'll breeze in and it'll be like she's always been there and you've given DD1 the greatest gift, a sibling. (no offence to mums with only 1 cos thats great too!!!)
