What does this mean in practical terms ? What do I need to actually do to achieve pulling together and getting behind Brexit ? Why does it matter if I and the rest of the 48 million don't ?

Good question. Does it mean that we all have to start lying in our jobs to make sure we get sacked and be a serial cheat in our relationships?

If so, the first I can't do because I am retired so I have missed the boat, never having been sacked, and the second, I will pass up on because I get on with DH.

bellinisurge · 03/02/2020 21:57

I imagine it means shutting up. Just like Faridge and his lickspittles did for all those years. 😂

WrongKindOfFace · 03/02/2020 21:59

Nah, fuck that. It’s your shitshow, you own it, BJ.

ListeningQuietly · 03/02/2020 22:00

I will get behind it
in the same way Casca did Julius Caesar

lljkk · 03/02/2020 22:03

Whole thing is baffling.
Farage was MEP for 20 yrs. This makes him "Not a career politician".
BoJo was born with silver spoon in his mouth. This makes him Man of "the People."
EU was founded to stop war in Europe which is why UK had to leave EU -- to get good trade deals that would make it "less likely it is that troops will ever cross borders."

And somehow the Brexit thing which I voted against coz I thought it would be a tedious pointless annoying faff -- well, it's only a tedious faff coz people like me still notice the Emperor wears no clothes.

LizzieSiddal · 03/02/2020 22:06

It doesn’t mean anything but is said so they can blame us when the shit, inevitably, hits the fan.

I won’t ever get behind something I detest.

Peregrina · 03/02/2020 22:11

I am going off at a tangent here, but one of the objectives was to keep the peace in Europe, which has mostly, been successful. However, Leavers are usually adamant that it's NATO which kept the peace. I have yet to hear them tell me how exactly NATO kept the peace between France and Germany/German speaking states in the past, when they have been fighting each other for centuries.

It sounds like a Leaver soundbite.

KenDodd · 03/02/2020 22:19

I think it means shut the fuck up and don't complain about all the negative consequences of Brexit. Don't point out facts and ignore, or better still, believe all the lies.

PatellarTendonitis · 03/02/2020 22:23

Not interested in pulling together with anyone who voted for this shower of shite or who voted Tory.

Tolleshunt · 03/02/2020 22:29

I think it means shut up and stop pointing out the truth, doesn’t it?

Hotitalian65 · 03/02/2020 22:30

Because NATO was not created until after WWII. I don't understand your question. There has been no war between Germany/France/GB since 1945?

Unescorted · 03/02/2020 22:33

It is the ask from those that supported leaving so that when it doesn't work out as they thought it might then they can say it is the fault of those that never wanted it in the first place. It is disingenuous way to move the narrative from it being the fault of the EU to the fault of those who didn't vote for the clusterfuck.

I cannot understand why those who voted to leave are not brimming with positive ideas for how they are gong to make their dream outcome work. I would support positive ideas, but I have yet to see any proposed. All we see from our political leaders is sabre rattling, finger pointing, petulant toddler tantrums, willy waving and cries of it's not fair. I would like to see workable ways to make this work, but it is not the job of us who didn't want this to create ideas that to date are so lacking.

If you want me to pull together try articulating what it is that you would like to achieve beyond "independence" "sovereignty" and "freedom" which will not be enough to sustain body and soul when our politicians manage to piss off every other nation.

DadOnIce · 03/02/2020 22:35

You only 'get behind' something and 'come together' over it when there has been some element of compromise.

When the side that has got what it wants, without compromise, asks for this, it's important to remember that they are actually asking for compliance.

We will not comply. We will resist.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 03/02/2020 22:40

No.

If they fxxk with the job prospects of the young they can get stuffed.

Not my shit show.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 03/02/2020 22:41

Plus part of a democracy is having the right to disagree. Or is this a totalitarian state now?

Hotitalian65 · 03/02/2020 22:57

What won't children be able to do that they could do when we were in?

Unescorted · 03/02/2020 23:01

Squirrel Bingo What won't children be able to do that they could do when we were in?

Peregrina · 03/02/2020 23:10

There has been no war between Germany/France/GB since 1945?

So why is the standard Leaver response that it's NATO which kept the peace, and not the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, EEC and later EU? I am not aware of NATO stepping in between any of the three countries, so I fail to see how it kept the peace. I believe France is back in NATO now, but for a long time chose to be outside.

Peregrina · 03/02/2020 23:14

What won't children be able to do that they could do when we were in?

Wrong question, because Brexit was supposed to be about benefits. It should be a statement, 'your children will now be able to do ....which being in the EU stopped them from doing.' To which we say, 'Righto, that sounds good, I can get behind that opportunity for my children/grandchildren.'

Hotitalian65 · 03/02/2020 23:24

The very reason is because NATO existed!

It did it's job. There was a unifying force that was the sovbloc threat. EEC was 1970s. EU was 1992

Hotitalian65 · 03/02/2020 23:25

Its..

Peregrina · 03/02/2020 23:29

Not an answer HotItalian - just a Leaver soundbite.

To what extent was the Soviet bloc a threat to France or the UK?

And yes I have lived through much of this period which I suspect that you haven't.

frumpety · 04/02/2020 06:19

I have a shockingly bad poker face so if asked to lie and say I think its all marvellous, nobody will be fooled. Smile

Still failed to find any positive in Brexit? And no I won’t get behind it.

ExpletiveDelighted · 04/02/2020 07:07

I'm no nearer to getting behind it than I was when I voted Remain.
