How can remainers get behind Brexit and pull together ?

frumpety · 03/02/2020 20:32

What does this mean in practical terms ? What do I need to actually do to achieve pulling together and getting behind Brexit ? Why does it matter if I and the rest of the 48 million don't ?

Both wars were awful as was the aftermath. It wasnt as it was portrayed in the films.
People were miserable. My parents lived through it. My eldest sister had a ration book in the 1950s.

Read the mass observation diaries. It was awful.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 08:29

What an idiotic argument

Not an argument, but a statement. Rationing lasted many years and effected everyone.

Also remember that the decision whether or not to go to war was not put to the electorate for a vote. Government decided and that was that. People were called up and told they were going into the army. No vote on that either.

At least with Brexit there was a choice.

but those periods were no less grim just because people had to get on with things

Never said they were not grim.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/02/2020 08:31

Not sure what point is being made? Parties can campaign for a rejoin before the next election if they wish and people can vote for such parties if they wish.

Seriously? You think all it would need would be for enough people to vote for a party which supports rejoining? After all that’s happened and is still happening for the UK to leave you think it would be that easy?

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 08:32

My parents lived through it

Mine too. Also Grandparents on both sides of family lived through both WWI and WWII.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 08:36

Seriously? You think all it would need would be for enough people to vote for a party which supports rejoining?

If the winning party had in their manifesto to rejoin they would be able to trigger Article 49 as they have a mandate. However, subsequent to the Miller case it would have to pass through Parliament. If successful then it would have to pass through the EU for accpetance. EU then decides whether or not the UK meets EU entry requirements.

After all that’s happened and is still happening for the UK to leave you think it would be that easy?

Rejpin could take many years of process and negotiation and may not happen if the terms of rejoin could not be agreed.

If, however, remain supporters say:

"look how stupid you were, we told you so"

then I as a leave supporter will vote leave every time in objection to arrogance.

And prove Remainers correct in believing Leavers are stupid.

Even Dominic Cummings and Aaron Banks think Leave voters are stupid, they've said as much on camera, I'll see if I can find the links when I get home from work. Does that make you turn away from Brexit I wonder or will you continue to just lap dog do as they want?

Theworldisfullofgs · 04/02/2020 08:41

Are we doing one up manship on wars?

My grandfather was a medic in ww1. I've read his diaries.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 08:45

And prove Remainers correct in believing Leavers are stupid

Remainers can believe what they wish, but are not entitled to dicate how others vote.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 08:49

I'll see if I can find the links when I get home from work

A statement signed by both Banks and Cummings would be better.

The poster Malylis provided a link for the Swindon Advertiser that was meant to prove that Honda had lied about the reasons Swindon plant was closed, but upon examination of the link the article stated that there were rumours, no evidence was provided.

KenDodd · 04/02/2020 08:54

I was Banks speaking before MPs, and Cummings making a speech at a conference or something (it's long) will the videos do?

Roussette · 04/02/2020 08:59

Going from your other presence on Brexit posts, do you actually work Mystery?

I will not get behind anything. I didn't vote for this, I didn't want this, no one could tell me about even one benefit in the last 3 plus years and AFAIC it's up to Brexiteers and the Government to prove to me that this is worth getting behind. Not seen a hint of that yet. All I've seen are lies from the Government and anger from the Leavers which is weird given that they've won.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/02/2020 09:01

Rejpin could take many years of process and negotiation and may not happen if the terms of rejoin could not be agreed.

So not at all like the years following an election then.

TheElementsOdeToJoy · 04/02/2020 09:02

So, in practical terms, so far we have "watch" Hmm

Mistigri · 04/02/2020 09:09

do you actually work Mystery

Er yes Mystery does work lol.

BackInTime · 04/02/2020 09:16

Any attempt to question this government or call out lies is seen as unpatriotic. They are refusing to go on certain tv and radio that might actually ask searching questions about policy and future trade deals. They have banned the use of the word Brexit. Yesterday they tried to exclude certain journalists from a no. 10 briefing which led to walk out by the media in solidarity with those excluded. So this is where we are folks, we have our own full on Trump/ Bannon government where propaganda is now news and media that do not tow the government line are sidelined.

People voted for this Angry

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 09:18

Going from your other presence on Brexit posts, do you actually work Mystery?

Yes I do work, but not in UK since 1988.

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 09:23

I was Banks speaking before MPs, and Cummings making a speech at a conference or something (it's long) will the videos do

You can post whatever you wish. More sensible to watch and observe what happend over next few years. Then you will be able to refer to actual data.

Trying to demonstrate that result was wrong and Brexit should be cancelled will not help as Brexit is already passed in UK and EU law.

Unusualsuspicion · 04/02/2020 09:24

It's the blind ignorance that gets me. Here is how Brexit will affect musicians (summary: they are stuffed)

www.google.com/amp/s/www.nme.com/features/how-brexit-will-screw-over-british-touring-artists-2604516%3famp

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 09:25

They have banned the use of the word Brexit

Missed that one. When was that passed?

Er yes Mystery does work lol

What is funny about someone working?

Mistigri · 04/02/2020 09:26

It's the blind ignorance that gets me

It probably isn't blind ignorance in this case - it's deliberate disinformation, on an industrial scale.

FamilyOfAliens · 04/02/2020 09:26

We’ll still have Morris dancers though, right, Unusualsuspicion?

Voila212 · 04/02/2020 09:30

Well Boris wants to get rid of the word Brexit altogether, no mention of 'Brexit ' in no 10. I suppose it will now be known as 'you know that thing in 2020' or maybe ' he who shall not be named '..

MysteryTripAgain · 04/02/2020 09:31

In many cases Visas can be obtained online. I have done it for 30 years. If planned in advance it is easy. Remember that Countries outside the UK want UK people and UK businesses to spend money in their Countries.

Some countries even relax the rules for; Self Employed, Directors and Freelancers.

Roussette · 04/02/2020 09:35

Yes I do work, but not in UK since 1988

I know you are out of the UK, I just wondered ... given your continual presence on Brexit threads.

Roussette · 04/02/2020 09:36

I use the word Brexit at every opportunity on Twitter.
