Boris Johnson was empty chaired by C4 with a block of ice.

The Conservatives went mental and have threatened to look at C4 broadcast remit.

This is illiberal and anti democratic.

Journalists are supposed to hold power to account on behalf of the public. If MPs don't turn up then they can't be held to account.

They have a duty to show. It's not good enough to avoid scrutiny because it might make you look bad. That's the whole point.

The contempt with which Johnson holds the press and public is reprehensible and you should be concerned whatever your political alligence. It allows corruption to fester without consequence.

And to then threaten C4 because they do their job in line with their responsibility as a broadcaster is alarming.

This is how authoritarian dictators work.

Moving safely (?) back in time, has anyone read the BBC History magazine this month. There's an article on the fall of Roman Britain, and it's hard reading it not to form a sense that ever 1600 years ago, there was something about these isles inhabitants that made them unwilling to fit in. It's hard not to feel there's a certain distinction even back then between Romano-Britains (presumably leading to todays Remainers) and the less impressed indigenous peoples who were only too happy to see the back of the Romans.

One thing I learned which surprised me is that Britain has yielded more buried Roman precious metal AD300-500 than the rest of the Empire combined .....

I suspect the contempt Johnson holds the media in will come back to bite him before this election is over. I am watching the BBC standoff with interest.

2 weeks to go. Every time Johnson completes an interview, he runs the risk of a gaffe and his party's lead gets squeezed. But if he does not appear in public, he hands ammo to his opponents.

Given the current figures, it's very much the Conservatives election to lose, rather than the opposition's to win.

Indeed mrslaughan Grin

Our pair before that were like your pair. It was serendipity and a bit "wooooo" that when Leo, the chocolate tabby point male developed kidney failure at only 9, the breeder had just started breeding again and had a female chocolate tabby point ready 2 weeks later whose pedigree name was Cleo ShockSmile

There does seem to be an over representation of Siamese owners slaves on these threads Wink

This election has got so vividly divisive, people so entrenched in their viewpoint, reacting against others rather than pro others, that their are plenty likely to vote in haste and repent at leisure.

new thread already? gosh.

Johnson has been filmed telling an interviewer to stop a particular line of questioning. Can't find any evidence of main stream media highlighting this. If it was Corbyn it would be the main headline.

re Pinocchio gate - I'm not denigrating the British public's in depth knowledge of Italian fairy tales, but when Stanley Johnson said the reference required a degree of literacy most of us don't have ... I mean he does know it's a fucking Disney movie right?
Perhaps our literary knowledge isn't as classical as his own ... but his film history is fucking appalling!

We might, as a nation, be in a considerably better place if Stanley Johnson had ever seen the film - or shown it to his son - it's got some good stuff in there 'always let your conscience be your guide'.

A lesson to grow on for the tory party.

And here's another - don't publicly air your utter contempt for the electorate two weeks before an election.

I said on the 'AIBU to change my vote based on this news story' thread that the tories despised us all, even those that voted for them - I hope everyone who read that and didn't believe it saw what SJ said about them today and connects the dots.

Sky has been using that clip but without comment or drawing attention to the angry "cut, cut" gesticulation. Which Nick Ferrari duly did, conveniently changing the subject Hmm

BigChocFrenzy · 29/11/2019 16:45

Thanks, red 💐

The Tories are threatening the C4 licence in order to intimidate other broadcasters
The BBC must have had the frighteners put on them some years ago

BJ is the British Trump, the Bullingdon Trump,
but a British PM has far more unfettered power than a POTUS or than just about any leader of a democratic country

Trump could not shut down a major US media outlet, say CNN or ABC, regardless of how much they offend his dignity

Social media is being addressed by doctoring videos, by fake websites and renamed twitter accounts
iirc it was Verhofstadt that said Tory social media deception was worse than in any far right regime in Europe, such as in Hungary or Poland

Do you think the country is a bit slow boiled frog? These changes, little by little, reducing free speech, women's rights etc.... Creeping up on us. One after another after another.
