Westminstenders: Frozen

Boris Johnson was empty chaired by C4 with a block of ice.

The Conservatives went mental and have threatened to look at C4 broadcast remit.

This is illiberal and anti democratic.

Journalists are supposed to hold power to account on behalf of the public. If MPs don't turn up then they can't be held to account.

They have a duty to show. It's not good enough to avoid scrutiny because it might make you look bad. That's the whole point.

The contempt with which Johnson holds the press and public is reprehensible and you should be concerned whatever your political alligence. It allows corruption to fester without consequence.

And to then threaten C4 because they do their job in line with their responsibility as a broadcaster is alarming.

This is how authoritarian dictators work.

In the 80s my dm was a social worker specifically helping "unmarried mothers" as the term was then. The narrative Johnson has been using to describe single mothers and their children was very much in keeping with the 80s Thatcherite viewpoint.

My dm and I were happy that that attitude seemed to have been consigned to the dustbin of hideous 80s tropes long ago. But no, Johnson has dug them up and resurrected them to use again. Disgusting! Angry

The Brexit Armsateers think we are all making nasty jokes about London Bridge. I said it was more that 'could it be a plot' had crossed peoples' minds, given the dystopian era we live in, but that is wrongthink.
It can be quite interesting over there (I said CAN), because the views expressed are not my way of thinking at all.

I saw that yolo. They've reported this thread which is, quote: 'full of conspiracy theorists' and 'a cesspit'.

It takes a certain level of intelligence to look beyond keywords (as anyone peddling "AI" has discovered when they meet me).

Just leave that there ....

So it's come to this, posters on other threads attempting to do a Johnson knife across the throat for Westminsterenders?

I had a quick look and decided that it wasn't worth reading further as it was itself such a cesspit of misrepresentation.

Free speech? Nah fuck that.

Being held to account by journalists? Nah only Nick Ferrari (who knows the signals) or Andrew Marr

Parliamentary sovereignty? Nah, were going to change all that

Independent judiciary? Yup that can go to!

The Brexit Armsateers are, as always, buoyed along by some sort of resentful victim-complex-ity.

I don't get it. They WON. They're still WINNING. It turns out (quelle surprise) that they're all fervent Tories of the hardest political right, and here too they're WINNING with their preferred party in its current incarnation set for a glorious WIN. They've been WINNING for 4 years and counting.

Yet they're the downtrodden, oppressed and angry victims of... ❓

Do you think the country is a bit slow boiled frog? These changes, little by little, reducing free speech, women's rights etc.... Creeping up on us. One after another after another.

I wonder if there's any evidence for my feeling that good things happen in jumps (votes for women, legalising homosexuality) and bad things happen in decrements ?

Has anyone ever read Will Selfs (fucking hilarious) Quantity Theory of Insanity ? Maybe there could be a similar theory about civil rights in society. That there's only so much to go around, so if you give in one area, then another loses Hmm. Bought to mind by the news that Ohio (not necessarily the goto state for batshittery) is requiring doctors to replant ectopic pregnancies or Go To Jail

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/nov/29/ohio-extreme-abortion-bill-reimplant-ectopic-pregnancy

It's hard not to imagine the DUP adding this to their Christmas List.

I wonder if there's any chance of some sort of mega gaffe where Boris proves he is Trumps dumber twin and calls for UK gun laws to be relaxed, so members of the public can protect themselves ?

And if there is no holds barred, I wonder how a fake story of US gun manufacturers are looking forward to flogging Saturday Night Specials to bingo-goers when Boris wins might go down ?

BlowJob could drop his kecks and take a shit on the Cenotaph whilst strangling kittens in broad daylight, and this would be simultaneously (a) hailed as evidence of his manly superiority/maverick genius thus shoring up his voter support, and (b) decried as fake news and liberal media bias for daring to notice let alone report the event.

So for anyone thinking Boris Johnson frantically gestured across his throat to get Nick Ferrari to stop questioning him on social care, which NF then dutifully did it's OK there is an explanation:

Nick Ferrari
@NickFerrariLBC
· 5h
To clarify the PM’s gesture this morning on LBC, this is sign language between me and my producer to signify he needs to stay quiet in my ear. It’s been in common use for over 10 years. End of. NF

We could all ignore the fact that BJ is not NF's producer - and it was not NF who made the signal, so it was not about talking in his ears but ... it's probably a reference that we don't have a sufficient degree of literary understanding to comprehend. So we would just look like the ignorant, feckless, illegitimate plebs we are if we went ahead and disbelieved Nick Ferrari's excuses.
