Xenophobia: Brexit official discourse

Hearing one minister after another at the Tory conference today has made me feel ill: So foreign doctors are welcome UNTIL more British doctors have been trained in a hurry, foreigners will be treated as second class citizens when applying for a job, and EU nationals are one of the "main cards" in Brexit negotiations. I cannot imagine any other country in the world where the official discourse of the governing party would include these statements without it being condemned as xenophobic. Shame on them.

I'm terrified. I'm an EU national, have lived here for 17 years. Never ever thought this could happen

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/10/2016 21:48

I think the aim is to build a society in which the mediocre succeed on the basis that they were born in Britain.
A sort of 'mediocracy' if you like. The opposite of globalisation.

It's all a bit vile, but she's worked out that it's what the majority of those who voted to leave the EU wanted.

LordRothermereBlackshirtCunt · 04/10/2016 21:49

No point in UKIP now, the Tories have become them.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 04/10/2016 21:52

It feels shitty. I am a citizen now and feel second class.

I've smelled this in the wind for a while hence why I sought citizenship

I also think having leave to remain will not be enough in future

this fucking place. I am making plans to go back. Some english bro can have the career I spent years training for and building- they obviously deserve it more than me

ManonLescaut · 04/10/2016 22:01

By telepathy apparently. Let's be honest: this is what Ms May wants.

jaws5 · 04/10/2016 22:04

I'm a EU national too, thinking of going through the whole citizenship process which is going to be very expensive and as you say uncontrolled probably won't be enough later on. I cannot believe this is happening here.

Oh dear. EU national here Sad terrifying . Just married a Brit and pregnant. What will happen to us? Sad

UncontrolledImmigrant · 04/10/2016 22:09

I would say do it now before it goes from really expensive to extortionate

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2016 22:11

It's disgusting. I know conservative voters who are disgusted by it too. This is not what they voted for.

I know many friends and family who will leave.

For what?

What happens from here?

That's what's really scary.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2016 22:11

Yes, I was staggered at that-

Not training more doctors -(hurrah) but training more doctors so we don't have so many foreigners.

I can't believe this is where we're at!

Helmetbymidnight · 04/10/2016 22:12

Did you see ukip leader resigned?

What's the scandal huh?!

jaws5 · 04/10/2016 22:27

uncontrolled I have sent you a private message, I hope that's ok Smile

Oh yes! Diane James, fan of Putin she said. Let Farage come back for the circus to continue, but no, it's probably something equally vile but less funny.

My mother moved here over 50 years ago to work for the NHS - she's in her 70s now. Apparently that piece of scum, Liam Fox, would think nothing of sending her packing if negotiations didn't go his way.

RedToothBrush · 04/10/2016 22:39

The doctors proposal was also to stop British doctors going abroad. In terms of fom the young and talented may be prevented from leaving the UK. It's being actioned in a number of ways.

Get praying for article 50 challenge s even if you don't believe in God. This is no longer about the EU.

Though god knows what the government will try and do if it wins given Mays comments about democracy being subverted. She's in collision course with the legal system and the rule of law.

Next step would be use of force in someway - either to Stoke up violence or misuse the police....

jaws5 · 04/10/2016 22:40

Ukip is obsolete now May and her team are implementing Ukip policies.

Just like uncontrolled I went for citizenship when it started becoming uncomfortable. That piece of paper doesn't make me feel any more secure or welcome. It's shit.

UncontrolledImmigrant · 04/10/2016 22:42

I have replied to your message

Good luck to you and all of us

Since June I've been thinking reason, progress and intelligence would prevail. I really feel defeated now, like I didn't know the country I have made my home, the country of my children, the one saw as tolerant, welcoming, creative and progressive. Heartbreaking to see its underbelly....

OP posts:
fakenamefornow · 04/10/2016 22:53

This is not what they voted for

This is what we are getting though. The Brexit we'll end up with is only going to please a tiny, tiny minority, but hey, Brexit means Brexit and democracy (ha ha) has spoken.

Oh and EU citizens, be grateful, at least you have a ticket out, us Brits are about to have all out rights of free movement ripped up and put in the bin.

Peregrina · 04/10/2016 22:53

Hunt was saying that we shouldn't be draining impoverished overseas countries of their doctors. I couldn't agree more. But as my DH would say ' Don't come it'. How many opportunities over the years have we had to train up Drs, Nurses, and Midwives? You Tories haven't done it before because you were never arsed to do it. If Cuba can export Doctors, with all the problems they have faced, then why can't the FUKD?

Oh, and BTW appeasing the UKIPers won't help you mate. They will come for you next.

fakenamefornow · 04/10/2016 22:56

May saying do this xenophobic approach to Brexit is what Britain wants

It's what my mum wants. She voted out because she want all the foreigners to go home and no more terrorists to come here.
