How to check my child’s grades at a Uni?

I am in despair as my son refuses to tell me if he is attending Uni at all, let alone to tell me how his grades are! I tried calling his Uni and all they say “it is confidential”. Do we parents have any rights in the UK to find out how our children are doing at a Uni? Thank you

I wonder how many of the posters whose sentiments can be summarised as 'keep your nose out but the money coming' have ever had to stick their hand in their own pocket for tens of thousands of pounds for their child's university education?

I certainly have and still think parents have no right to know. 🤷‍♀️

Did you read the OP's concerns in her second post?

I thought not.

Although, knowing grades isn't a parent's concern unless the student gets asked to leave.

I did actually. And I do sympathise. Dd had a break down while at uni, was diagnosed with ptsd after being raped, stopped attending uni, failed year 1, was having counselling, disappeared off the face of earth for three months and i didn’t know where she was living. Managed to appeal and was allowed to resit year 1. But she was still an adult and i don’t have a right to be told stuff about her. She can choose to tell me what she wants. And as a parent all you can do is try to keep the communication going.

So you’re actually agreeing with me? Even though you’ve read the OP’s concerns? Ok. 😁

Though I would say even if they’re asked to leave a parent still has no right to know.

what if they were 18yo and work8ng…..should the manager ring the parent up and tell them how their annual review went?

Yes, that was a bit contradictory Grin

I sort of agree and disagree with you. I would want to know why my child was doing so badly - if there was a mental health issue, for instance. You never stop worrying about your children, no matter how old they are.
