Started this as we’ve veered off topic on the AG thread.

Thanks @ENoeuf

HPLikecraft · 22/01/2022 12:15

Good call @ENoeuf, the thread had certainly moved on, so it seems more appropriate to have a more general one.

Another weird and sad disappearance - they all are, I know - is that of Lars Mittank. Young German man who grew paranoid after being beaten up on holiday in Bulgaria. When at the airport to go home he panicked, ran out of the terminal and vaulted a periphery fence into some woods. Never seen again. Awful.

Amy Lynn Bradley disappeared off a cruise ship in 1998 and experts believe it's unlikely that she fell overboard. He family believe that she may ah e been smuggled off the ship and sold into sex slavery, there were unverified sighting of her and one man said that when he was in a brothel and women said her name was Amy and begged for help but he didn't report it to anyone.

It must be horrific for her family

Apparently there have been 200-300 disappearances from cruise ships since the late 90's.

@morbidd Wow! I never knew this?! I wonder if that includes people who they believed have fallen in or jumped? I'm off to go down the rabbit hole

Oh you'll enjoy that!

Lard Mittank - that is such a sad disappearance. I wonder if he had a breakdown. The one that haunts me is the boy who got lost, was calling his parents and then cut off suddenly. His car was ages from where he thought he was and there’s never been any trace of him found.

Corrie mckeague most recently. Wtf happened to him?! :(

HPLikecraft · 22/01/2022 14:03

Yes, that was Brandon Swanson @ENoeuf, listened to a podcast about him 😞

I always wonder about him too
ENoeuf · 22/01/2022 14:53

@HPLikecraft thank you, I’ll have to google to remind myself.

One thing that really chills me is the idea that some people are missing a in basements. Because surely the ones we know about aren’t the only ones and they’ve escaped. I can imagine why people never stop looking for their missing.

I can imagine why people never stop looking for their missing.

I've heard it being described as like being buried alive.

Sometimes people have a fake name which they are known by for years and years. When they disappear, they just change their name again. It's pretty much fraud. Even if no money or advantage has been taken.

It suits them to run away. Just pop up in a new town elsewhere with a new name and get on with their life. That's their choice and there's all sorts of circumstances.

However, as has been mentioned the disappearance of Cory McKeague. Very strange. OK, could have ended up in landfill. Especially as the rubbish truck correct weight could attest to.

However, he could have faked his own disappearance.

Claudia Lawrence. Where is she ? Why did that high profile policeman make public reference to her complicated love life, then say he didn't know why he said it.

Love this new thread well done. If you want a deep rabbit hole, try David Glenn Lewis. He went missing from Texas for years under strange circumstances. Then his body was identified years later as he had been a John Doe in a mortuary in Washington State. He was only identified because a police officer took it upon himself to try and identify the John Does from internet searches of missing people.

David was run over by a car on a very remote road in Washington, where he had no connections and he was wearing different clothes, the glasses he couldn't see without were in his pocket. No one knows how he got there but he died less than 24 hours after he left home.

His family believe he was drugged, kidnapped and driven across country. But why kill him by running him over? Or was he wandering along the road, drugged, and became the victim of a hit and run by a completely unconnected person?

Also, see Brian Shaffer, that will fry your brain.

Trevor Deely - disappeared whilst walking home from the pub at 4am after a Christmas social in Dublin on 8 December 2000.

He called in at his workplace to collect his umbrella as it was raining. Two workmates were waiting for him outside. Why ? It was 4am. OK, they are not part of the enquiry but I still wonder why.

A man dressed in black was also waiting.

Trevor made a drink at his workplace and chatted to a colleague working the night shift. He got his umbrella and left.

He's seen walking down the street followed by the man in black.

Trevor has not been seen from that day to this.

He had recently returned from a trip to Alaska where he visited uninvited, a girl he had met when she was on holiday in Dublin.

His parents were keen to hear about his trip but he told them he couldn't visit that day as he was Christmas shopping.

Apparently, Trevor took a longer walk home than normal on that dark, cold rainy night. Couldn't get a taxi as they were on strike.

Where is he now ?

I was reading about the disappearance of Harmony Montgomery. Her mum lost custody of her when she went to rehab and she was placed with her dad who allegedly beat her and was abusive. Her mum hasn't seen her in 2 years and nobody knows where she is. I just feel so awful for the poor thing being placed in such a horrible situation. I hope somehow she is ok.

Yep. Aged 27 disappeared from a bar in Ohio at 2am on 1st April 2006. He was seen entering the bar but not leaving it.....

Did he change clothes with someone or leave through an alternative exit. Does the bar had a false ceiling or somewhere else he could hide until it was quiet ?

He was due to propose to his girlfriend later that week. He had it all to look forward to in life. Then vanished.

The story of a British guy in Germany who ran into the traffic on the motorway and the German police just said it was an accident. His mother campaigned and campaigned and the case got re-opened as murder or terror related.

Katrice Lee - A child who disappeared from the NAAFI stores at a British Army Base in Germany at Christmas in the 1980's. A man was questioned about her disappearance many years later but nothing came of it. She's still missing.

Asha Degree - A nine year old girl left the family home on a rainy winter's night and hasn't been seen since.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 22/01/2022 15:42

D. B. Cooper
In America in the 1970's hijacked a plane and parachuted out of it with large sums of money in cash. Who was he ? What happened to him ? What about some of the money found on a river bank several years later ?

ToffeeNotCoffee · 22/01/2022 15:46

William Tyrell - a little boy in Australia who vanished. Recently a new detective has been assigned to the case.

Taman Shud - A smartly dressed man was found dead on a beach in Australia. They can't identify him but the phrase, 'Taman Shud' had been written on a piece of paper and sewn inside his jacket. A local nurse may have known more than she was letting on. Espionage ?

prettyteapotsplease · 22/01/2022 15:55

I'll always wonder about Genette Tate who went missing many years ago when on her paper round in Devon, also Claudia Lawrence couldn't have just vanished into thin air.

jimmyreckon · 22/01/2022 16:10

I wonder why some have wiki pages and others don't?

Ian Mogford- went missing whilst backpacking in India

There's a local lady to me who has been missing for a year now. A grandmother. Just left home one day no cash no card no phone, hasn't been seen since.

Santahasjoinedww · 22/01/2022 16:23

The Corrie case the bin men admitted lying about weighing the truck I believe..

ShaneTheThird · 22/01/2022 16:28

The Corrie case has lots of sad things.
The original bin lorry weigh in was admitted to be incorrect by a huge margin, in fact the margin Mysteriously happened to be around Corrie's weight.
He was never seen leaving the horseshoe yet his phone pinged on a mast on the way to the tip.
The police fucked up the entire investigation from the very beginning and then they didn't want to search the landfill for months and months after then gave up when they deemed it too much work.
So many people made complaints as to their appalling handling of his case. I think he is now officially being declared dead without a body. The saddest part is he didn't even know he had gotten someone pregnant when he vanished and now has a daughter who will never know her dad.

Also when searching the tip the police found a woman's body dating from the 1940s. Yet we have never been told her identity or what happened to her either.

Did he throw his phone in the bin ?
