The Beeb is moving to Dublin? Why not I suppose. Every Irish pub/ restaurant/ filling station seems to have a UK radio or TV service blaring out now. It's quite surreal....there's a man or woman outside Westminster blathering away and nobody here knows or cares what's happening.
Yet somehow we accept that as normal...

Tbf, i'd be well into the Brit stuff, force of habit. And spending time on here!

Will Ryan Tubridy join the BBC and broadcast from Dublin ?

I'll answer my own question- so he's broadcasting from London on Virgin Radio to the UK and to Ireland on Wireless Ireland owned stations.

mikado1 · 02/01/2024 14:18

What was he like? 3h a big change.

No idea, so I started a thread in Chat.

Will be interesting to see how he gets on. I'm old enough to remember Vincent Hanley doing summer relief on Capital radio in London. As an aside - how hungry is Graham Norton? His own talk show on TV and still doing Virgin radio. Then he pops up on panel games on radio 4 ffs. The UK is every bit as parochial as incestuous as Ireland. And I thought it was only us 😂

Not to mention the books and the wine 😂 i'm sick looking at Tubs mug popping up all over facebook in the last couple of days, it's like the second coming of christ. He has some front.

I know @Chickenkeev . It's all ass backwards. People write great songs or books and wind up broke or even in debt. Whereas these nonentities gey paid mega bucks to loiter in front of a camera - and it's regular. They are like bed blockers , stopping young talent .

That's so true! Not sure how much talent there is floating about Montrose atm though, I like Tommy Tiernan but he wouldn't suit LLS. Kielty is ok, but you'd wonder is it him being slightly underwhelming or just shite guests. The whole thing needs to be looked at (perhaps they could engage the services of an exorbitant external consultant 🤔 )

LadyEloise1 · 04/01/2024 09:09

That's always the way with radio. The presenters are just one programme away from losing their job at any time.
Audiences are fickle and management will do what they can to increase their listenership and gain advertisers.

Villagetoraiseachild · 04/01/2024 20:42

There's someone on the beeb over here in so many things and appears to have little talent, humour or anything much to recommend, as hard as I've looked.

Someone on MN asked if he could be an influential person's love child, as they seem so desperate to make him a major player....
I do miss dear old Terry.

Terry's son was on the radio this morning, he seemed lovely altogether.

He's the nephew of a number of Irish politicians (at a European level) and a couple of his cousins have sat in the Dáil. Not sure if they could make him a 'major player'.

David Andrews is his uncle. AFAIK he was minister for foreign affairs for a good while. He was important enough in his day i think.

Another uncle Niall Andrews was also a FF TD and MEP plus he has a cousin Barry Andrews who was a FF TD and MEP and another one too.

LadyEloise1 · 05/01/2024 09:35

He has another cousin Chris Andrews, Niall Andrews son who is a Sinn Féin TD for Dublin Bay South according to Google. He was previously in Fianna Fáil.
David Mc Savage the comedian is also a cousin - the son of David Andrews a former FF minister.
Their grandfather was Todd Andrews the chairman of CIE. He oversaw the closure of many railway lines, sadly. They were uneconomical at the time but........

And he has a brother who is/was a neurologist in Vincent's.

Here's a review I came across that sounds about right:
At 50, he sounded older too - here, we still have the image of him as a dynamic young Fogey.

Throughout the morning, he seemed fixated on Ireland and the Irish listeners, like someone stuck in the past.

Text messages of support were read out - many from Ireland - wishing him success in his new role and saying how great it was to hear him on the airwaves again.

Someone from Waterford got in touch to tell him he was brilliant, and Ryan responded with: “Up The Deise” and told the show it was in Ireland’s sunny south-east.
