Why have RTE always considered themselves above the taxpayer ?

It is a sad indictment of the times we live in when you automatically say phew it is only money.

What is the charge against Ryan in the court of public opinion? Is it that he knew his stated salary was wrong and didn’t correct it publicly?
If Toyota were paying on behalf in exchange for RTE advertising and some public appearances, is it not the case that this is factually true as it’s not salary? Ryan may not have know the arrangement had even changed.

I for one would notice an extra £57,000 (no Euro symbol) trickling down into my accounts.

It was to use a great MN word disingenuous at the very least.

And last night it emerged the RTÉ board was told of the issue of payments to Ryan Tubridy “in the same week” as he announced his departure from The Late Late Show. Just a coincidence I am sure…🙄

But yet he's come out v strongly, as well as tone deaf, in his own statement and mentions looking forward to getting back to radio programme next week.

The article I read said he is no longer scheduled to be on air next week.

I'm disappointed with Ryan.
Please don't insult my intelligence and tell me he didn't know about the extra money.
His "people" (manager and legal advisers) would have kept him in the loop

Why did the facilitator of the extra money renegade on the deal which meant RTE had to pay up ?

Situation in Russia has pushed Tubridy off the front page of RTE how convenient.

So Ryan phoned up the head of the Wagner group and said, "Listen Igor, I need a small favour...".

RTE presenters are grossly overpaid for the job they do.

And to think people are jailed for not pay the tv licence! 😡

Over the coming days weeks and months I predict some standard issue pearl clutching headlines, some faux outrage and shock expressed by politicians, announcement of a review and the to top it all a possible Tribunal (we just love our tribunals here in Ireland) at the end of which it will be service resumed as normal, and it will be overshadowed and forgotten as the next crisis/scandal hits the headlines. Same as it ever was.

The Uk papers are saying RT was paid through a UK media barter company after his agent was told to do so but to keep the star’s name off the invoices.
Internal staff queried who gave approval and for what, and were told it was the DG. I’d say it was them who told the auditors where to look.

The real question is what the Board knew.

I’ve changed my mind about RT’s involvement. His agent was chasing senior RTE mgt for ages - he must have know about that.
