Rory Coveney has now resigned.

Oh that's convenient 🙄

Do you believe the reasoning? To allow your man Kevin to start with a fresh team..... Yeah right, they just think us Irish are thick as shite!!

So, does this mean he can't be called to answer any more questions? That would work out nicely for him to resign with immediate effect before the shit show on Tuesday.

Looks like there's many jobs going in RTE, shall we all send in our CVs 😂 I want something that allows me to go for fancy meals and I fancy some posh flip flops, I usually buy penny's 2 euro ones.

honeyrider · 10/07/2023 13:59

Geraldine O'Leary oils going with immediate effect. More will go to avoid answering questions.

I don't get why that's allowed tbh. A 'normal' person wouldn't get away with it.

LadyEloise1 · 10/07/2023 15:31

But Dee Forbes who has all the answers was allowed resign and didn't have to go before any Dáil Committee.

No accountability in Ireland don't ya know 😢

DeanElderberry · 10/07/2023 16:21

I cannot understand why these people don't have to work out a specified period of notice, same as all the rest of us would.

Because when the sh*t hits the fan they don't have to answer the hard questions.

Yellowsubmarineunderthesea · 10/07/2023 17:49

Anyone can resign with immediate effect if the employer agrees with it. They might also have hols built up to cater for the notice period. The employer can also request a person leaves immediately but would continue to pay them out the notice period too.

LookItsMeAgain · 11/07/2023 10:25

It's getting juicy!

The woman who used to be the CFO until her retirement stated that she was totally unaware of the deal that was being done with Noel Kelly and now NK has come out (fighting I might add) with copying and pasting copies of emails that he had with her email and input on them. So that was a lie from RTE then.

Tubridy has also come out fighting today so I think the committee hearings will be pure gold today!

LookItsMeAgain · 11/07/2023 10:26

I do hope that once this issue has been resolved, that the government spends at least this amount of time if not a hell of a lot more into looking into the mismanagement of funds in the National Children's Hospital build and that they can call on the Gardai a lot sooner if needed.

MoreCraicPlease · 11/07/2023 10:32

I agree, it’s getting interesting with the 7 rebuttals especially the part about the “bonus” not having been claimed.

I’ve seen social clubs run with more fiscal due diligence.

This 💯

You know this won't happen though like. It'll be the usual short term memory etc. I'm almost getting annoyed in advance 🤣

They are both coming out swinging (at RTE) saying that all of this information was down to how RTE managed their finances and has nothing to do with Ryan and there was no responsibility on Ryan at all.

I do think that they are smudging the waters here (not quite muddying), because I believed that RTE were only dealing with the 2020-25 contract and not the 2017-19 contract. Did I miss something there?

Being honest, i don't actually care about the nitty gritty! I'm just loving the theatre of it (terrible, i know!)

LadyEloise1 · 11/07/2023 11:54

Watching it now and I'm fuming.
All this time wasted on something worth buttons in the scheme of things.
Why have the grandstanding politicians not hauled those involved in the National Childrens Hospital into the Oireachtas, in front of the Public Accounts Committee to explain the multi millions of tax payers money being overspent.
Why are the media constantly giving. the RT stuff so much air ?

Kimten · 11/07/2023 13:02

I think it's safe to say that Tubridy's career at RTE is over.

DeanElderberry · 11/07/2023 13:33

He's hoping to throw Noel Kelly to the wolves and float back to his radio show on a billowing cloud of boyish charm and public goodwill.

I don't think Kelly will go down without a fight and Tubridy isn't a boy any more, but the public view? I don't know.

LookItsMeAgain · 11/07/2023 13:50

Things I've learned today from the PAC hearing

  1. I seriously doubt that Renault will want their name being dragged through the mud like it has been today.
  2. That Ryan still believes that he is under contract (as an independent contractor to RTE) and that he'll be back on the radio with RTE when this is all over.
  3. I've heard "We were following instruction from RTE" more times than I care to remember.
  4. That they still don't think that they have done anything wrong - either financially (i.e. invoicing a company in the UK for goods/services received in the Rep of Ireland) or morally (taking the money when we were in a lock down
  5. That Ryan was supposed to do three public appearances but these were during the pandemic and it wouldn't have even been possible for those appearances to be made.
  6. That when he did make appearances in Renault dealerships, how his RTE colleagues (lighting/sound/whatever) were rocking up to these appearances as well when they had nothing to do with his 'extra' contracts.
  7. That Tubridy says there has been a "humanity by-pass" in the Oireachtas, because he gets challenged for handing in documentation at 08:30 on the morning of a hearing that is scheduled to start at 10:30 the same morning and he was asked how long it took him to prepare for a big guest showing up on the LLS - which he answered several days but he doesn't like the comparison.
  8. That one of the TD's commented that a large number of the companies that Noel Kelly has set up have been struck off the companies register.
Abhannmor · 11/07/2023 14:53

This is quite good for the Oireachteas though. Like the shit show at the BBC is handy for the Tories.

Inflation , hopelessness, hospitals , schools , the daft anti women hate crime bollocks. Meh. Celebs are more fascinating......

Neverinamonthofsundays · 11/07/2023 15:38

The irony of course is that we are paying 160 a year for this circus to be all over the tv.

DeanElderberry · 11/07/2023 16:28

JFK ref!

Coincidentally I have been reading a long essay by Fintan O'Toole about JFK - the Irish visit, his attitude to Ireland in contrast to what was actually happening in Ireland at the time, his death etc. Written in the early 1990s, incisive, analytical, as different from Tubridy's shallow fanboying as possible.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 11/07/2023 17:13

If he gets sacked can he not sue for unfair dismissal?

IrritableVowel · 11/07/2023 17:58

Came home for lunch and back now, and they are still going. RT and NK must be exhausted.

I am fascinated by the process

halfpasteleven · 11/07/2023 18:03

I don't think RT and NK are coming out of this as well as they would like to be...
