Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

I have to say, I found some of your comments to previous posters harsh too @EarringsandLipstick.

You were shaming someone for not being up to date with certain aspects of the news. Someone who had come on here for help.

Telling someone else to think before they type is also condescending imo.

(I did read all of your posts.)

Abhannmor · 22/07/2022 07:47

Sometimes comments can come across harsher than we really intend. It's a drawback of this Internet thing. I've made sarky posts that have upset or annoyed others , so it's something I have to watch.

In other news : I see Ruth Coppinger and the gang were at Limerick Women's Prison protesting the jailing of the young girl whose baby died. I don't know much about that tragic case. But there were no signs or banners about women being locked up with male sex offenders in that very place.

To think I voted for People Before Profit.

PleasantBirthday · 22/07/2022 09:47

It's funny, all those people I once admired I now despise.

EarringsandLipstick · 21/07/2022 21:38

Late replying, sorry, but what on earth are you talking about?

Give over with your nonsense about 'bullying' 🙄

It's perfectly acceptable to point out that some topics are mainstream news - ie across all platforms, on the main RTE news, in the papers, and it's as such surprising that that poster hasn't even heard of them, and then writes posts expressing a view.

I also shared clear links that she might find helpful - hardly bullying.

And my comments were not at all directed at the finer nuances of GC discussions in Ireland - I'm very much at the starting point too. You should perhaps read my posts before denigrating me.

I was referring to this from Commentqueen:

Sorry I joined this thread, I won't contribute any further @EarringsandLipstick .
Yes I do watch the news, don't read the paper as have an indo subscription.. I tend to read the headlines, war in Ukraine, British news, Northern Ireland etc.. I asked for information on this thread as I said I'm very out of touch on the matter... Sorry I did now!

I her own words she said she wouldn't be coming back to the thread because of nitpicking over her posts.

I believe Ruth Coppinger was quite prominent in the push to repeal the 8th Amendment, surely then she understands that female biology matters? Do we know the Social Democrats or PBP's stance on these issues?

It's so disappointing that no party (apart from Aontú) are speaking out about this, it's left to independent senators to say anything useful.

There are a whole lot of The 8thers who are rabbid TWAW but not so much TMAM, when it comes to a woman's right to choose.
The 2018 abortion law is single sex,
2. “woman” means a female person of any age.
as in for women and girls only.
By then about 100ish women would have opted with the 2015 GRA
18. (1) Where a gender recognition certificate is issued to a person the person’s gender shall from the date of that issue become for all purposes the preferred gender so that if the preferred gender is the male gender the person’s sex becomes that of a man, [so a male not a female person of any age] and if it is the female gender the person’s sex becomes that of a woman.
not to be recognised as legal women.

[*My bold and edit, & note this is the single place where "female" words are placed before "male" words, the protocol is "he" then "she"]

It's a catch22 as the Courts has to either pretend that men get pregnant so the 2018 legislation should read as "woman” means a female or male person of any age or the 2015 legislation did not actually change the GRC holders legal status.

The current offical legal opinion (supporting 3 GRC males housed in the Womens Prison) is that the 2015 legislation also removes all and any pregnancy and pregnancy related protections from the any of the 300ish women who were given GRC.
So working women loose sex specific legislation protecting them from discrimination.

A lot appear to be anti-womens rights / pro-people with needs and body parts because otherwise it requites women to say
we are not men;
we, women spend, 10%ish of our lives as sexually immature female humans, 45%ish of our lives with the reproductive ability to get pregnant and 45%ish post reproductive stage, but 100% as female ;
we, women are still discriminated against on the basis of womens capacity to have babies;
we still suffer economic harm by having babies and looking after them;
we grew up in a society with
single mother's and invisible father's,
a history of Mother and Baby Homes which the Governemnt chose to hide, and
the double standard of Studs shagging Sluts,
we know that that mindset is still there.

Did you note the politicians / Government championing the constitutional review group talking about removing a mothers constitutional recognition and protection? Rather handy if that was removed rather than recognise the Mother and Baby was a State violation of Mother contribution to the "common good", and the child's right to a Family.

Or that the legislation which provides a mother with post birth recovery time and care of the her child should be reduced and used by the father, rather than recognise his separate parental leave? That ignores that Maternity rights will continue to be a conflict in the workplace as that leave has to be excluded when making pay and promotion decisions and men loose out.

Unfortunately a lot of women who were prominent in Repeal and Equal Marriage are full on gender woo supporters. I think PBP , Greens and Social Democrats are probably lost causes. Less sure about Sinn Féin ? They have a lot of left wing but socially conservative supporters.

Better off lobbying individual TDs face to face perhaps.

Just a FYI of Colette Colfer's twitter post. She did a FOI on GI training, paid for from the licence fee by RTE

Abhannmor · 24/07/2022 19:55

That's a great thread @SolasAnla . The message is getting out there. NGOs are corrupt and unaccountable. We need solas na gréine cleanse them all.

I suppose the taxpayer will pick up the tab again once the lawsuits begin.

FionaMacCool · 25/07/2022 16:51

Colette Colfer is a star🌟. She is worth following on Twitter- recently had an excellent article due to be published in the Irish Times- but they wimped out at the last moment. I wonder if she lurks here?

BelongTo are just another bunch of scam artists. Like TENI they exist to line their own pockets, and 're-educate' us mere mortals into their bullshit ideology.

I wonder how much time/ money RTÉ have spent promoting protected characteristics like disability or ageism??

Also, considering RTÉ have a sex discrimination case ongoing against them, it seems they have a long way to go to have actual inclusivity in the workplace - you know, the old fashioned kind, not just the rainbow kind.

Abhannmor · 30/07/2022 16:59

Yes @Roseglen84 . Isn't it meant to.be Disability Pride month? And we had Trans Pride in Cork. So they have their own demo but gay people are not allowed to since they attend
that one as Well.

When did Pride become a whole month? Is that just this year, or have I just noticed? The amount of people who have mentioned it to me and rolled their eyes is ridiculous, I think people are losing a lot of good will with Pride in general.

Yeah I noticed that too, that people seem bored of it all now. I'm sure we'll be told how privileged we are but honestly I do not give a shiny shit who people love or have sex with as long as everyone there is a consenting adult who hasn't been bullied or coerced into being there. Yes TRAs, looking at you, the ones telling lesbians they're transphobic for not sleeping with men 🙄

Doza · 06/08/2022 01:02

Has anyone seen this? Male playing the in a junior lgfa sheild final! I've been dreading this hitting the GAA, my girls play football & camogie.
I'm sure they'll be told to "be kind" 😡

Two lesbians have been blocked on Twitter fir pointing it out. Will this help peak Ireland?

Abhannmor · 06/08/2022 09:40

Two accounts with big UK followings have been suspended. Spotlight is on Ireland now. If balding middle ages blokes invading Ladies GAA doesn't peak us , what will ?

It's not a good look for Na Gaeil Aerach either. A club set up for gay men and lesbians. This man is neither. Contact your local GAA club and make them aware of this insanity.

Doza · 06/08/2022 10:32

I've emailed Dublin and Leinster LGFA, we'll see if I get a reply. I'll probably chat with the girls team chat groups first before contacting the club. I'm not happy especially seeing how well ladies football has been growing. It'll be camogie next 😡

@Doza yes it will spread to Camogie , soccer etc. Tae Kwan Do ? Good luck with the emails and we'll done.

3timeslucky · 07/08/2022 18:35

Great to see this thread.

Someone asked up thread about mailing copies of Trans to politicians. It was done at Christmas. I don't think any of the politicians who received a copy sent a thank you note ;-)

3timeslucky · 07/08/2022 18:46

Spencerfig · 13/07/2022 12:27

I don't have teenage children, mine are primary going still...we haven't come accross any trans discussions yet nor is it mentioned in schools... How common is it in teenagers? Is it more common in mixed or single sex schools? Why is it more prevalent within neurodiverse kids? I think as other posters said I'm a bit head in the sand & not clued in... However I would hate to see any child's life ruined as they were hopping on the latest trend & the children who really are struggling not getting the help they need...

It is in all secondary schools, both the teaching about gender ideology and the kids who think they've a gender identity that doesn't match their sex. Single sex, co-ed, religious, non-denominational ... Parents/students may choose to move from single sex schools but that is not a given. There is a girls school near me with a number of girls "identifying" as boys. But there are no boys there who are "identifying" as girls. The principal has said that couldn't happen but I don't know if that is a position held everywhere (possibly protected by law as the kids can't legally "change their sex" and single sex schools can only admit the single sex they're set up to educate. Schools that have a strong ethos of inclusivity possibly attract more kids (or attract their parents) with a professed gender identity so you could see how the ET schools could be a bit of a magnet. Given the social contagion issue there can be a bit of a snow-balling effect. The materials that are allowed to circulate in schools and the level of access some of the lobby groups have probably vary but the influence is in every school I'm familiar with.

3timeslucky · 07/08/2022 18:52

Abhannmor · 15/07/2022 10:54

Tricky. But it is said a 'trans child is like a vegan cat ; we all know who is making the decisions'.

It would worry me if this Minister was in a position with authority over Health , Education or some related department.

I've seen similar observations about media and the impact on the approach taken if there's a journalist with a trans-identifying child.

It is hard as politicians and their family have a right to privacy. Yet they have to declare interests in other areas. But how do you do that with your private life (or more importantly your family members private lives)? And yet it is not irrelevant. I realise I'm going round in circles there.

Absolutely.

And they're where children and their parents are being directed for support. Chilling.

3timeslucky · 07/08/2022 19:01

There are three articles in the Indo today on this topic. One Opinion by Eilis O'Hanlon and then two about the scandal of sending children to the Tavistock and the HSE refusal to take on the concerns being voiced by experts working in the services here. Worth a subscription (and no I don't work there!)

PleasantBirthday · 08/08/2022 15:58

I was planning to join my daughter up to the GAA club here when the new admissions start, but I'll hold off until we know for sure what's happening. My sil is a mentor in their club (which I would also be interested in volunteering as) and she was saying that they must have at least one woman present for everything but who knows what happens if a male mentor identifies as a woman? I wouldn't, couldn't stand over that.
