Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

Wait for more of it to come.. I'm sure the Times will be reporting on plenty of trans people's plights over the next few months.... What a donkey Ruth Coppinger is.. Inhumane putting males in a male prison?! The trans groups must be seething, it's not all going to plan any longer & the pressure is on Leo now😁

bellinisurge · 22/03/2023 11:46

Slowly slowly they will be unable to prevent discussion of it. It'll fall out of the spotlight. There will be the usual "TWAW" stuff casually reported here and there but it'll have slightly less traction. More people will start speaking up and not be shut down. And the Let Women Speak rallies due in Dublin and Belfast will get more coverage. And even more people will start to think about it.

Genesis1v27 · 22/03/2023 11:56

I didn't know there were Let Women Speak rallies due here. Dates from https://www.standingforwomen.com/events

Dublin - St Stephen's Green - Saturday 15th April, 12pm
Belfast - Writers' Square - Sunday 16th April, 12pm

Anybody here going to LWS rally? I’ll be there

Leopardprintonsie · 22/03/2023 15:11

I posted a changeorg link to a petition I signed re Barbie Kardashian getting moved from Limerick women's prison & it's hidden?
Sent to all my close what's app contacts & face group friends.

Would anyone have any draft of a letter I can send to my local rds? Thanks

Leopardprintonsie · 22/03/2023 15:13

Oh the petition has been allowed. Hope many of you can sign & share if possible🙏

Haven't caught up...Newstalk just said they'd be discussing this in a little while.
BTW links to petitions usually aren't allowed except on petitions board (if yours gets hidden again you can link to the BK thread on that's on petitions board

butterfliesanddoves · 22/03/2023 15:49

Well, the National Women's Council of Ireland have let the women in Limerick prison know what they think

Leopardprintonsie · 22/03/2023 15:58

@Believerinbiology they allowed the petition a few posts up. Just madness & he fully intact, no attempt to change himself & he's allowed in the women's prison just because he says he is in his own head..

Leopardprintonsie · 22/03/2023 16:02

@Believerinbiology I posted on the petitions page.. Thank you for letting me know. Hopefully the Barbie Kardashian scandal goes global & the pressure is really put on the government.

signed and shared

I am honestly very afraid of the coming referendum and what it'll bring. They are in small numbers, but very vocal and very well seen all over social media. They'll start playing the victim card very, very soon.
I'm looking forward to reading the actual text and I'm convinced it'll be written as complicated as possible, mixing the shit out of sex and gender

Norma Foley's supposed to be on Newstalk soon
Oh they're talking about Leo and Kieran C. said that the law is in favour of BK. As long as BK identifies as a woman, he is entitled to be in a women prison. SO, what will the government do to change the law if they don't agree with the transwoman being in a women's prison

Farmageddon · 22/03/2023 16:08

butterfliesanddoves · 22/03/2023 15:49

FFS so ridiculous. I'm so sick of this shit - transwomen could well be accommodated in a male prison. It is perfectly possible - prisoners are kept segregated all the time for many reasons.

Male violence is not women's problem to solve, and housing men in women's prisons is not the answer to male violence. Not to mention we are often talking about housing violent sexual male offenders in women's prisons. Why do they have more rights than female prisoners?

National Women's Council should be ashamed of the bullshit they are peddling.

Farmageddon · 22/03/2023 16:11

NWC is the one that has 'Sarah' Phillips on their executive board - a biological male. Tells you everything you need to know.

Also from their website - By ‘woman’ we refer to any person who identifies as a woman.

VaddaABeetch · 22/03/2023 16:45

Women have been stopped going into NWA meetings as they were wearing Adult Human Female tee shirts.

Believerinbiology · 22/03/2023 17:18

Norma Foley agreed with Leo. Although it's bullshit that they weren't aware of the issue at least there is focus on it now. BK has been in Limerick Prison for at least 2 years along with another male sex offender who says they're a woman and politicians were contacted about it then. pushing it back onto the minister for justice and the prisons service. Let's hope that this doesn't get buried and that with all the focus on BK that he is not the only one removed from women's prisons.

Leopardprintonsie · 22/03/2023 17:26

@Believerinbiology it needs to go global & once it's in focus internationally they'll act to save face. They won't want to end up like Nicola S.

RedLemonade · 22/03/2023 18:03

I feel like the push back is only just barely starting here in Ireland but I have to say this thread alone gives me a tiny bit of hope. Well done to everyone speaking out.

My DH is on the same page and had a chance to bend our local TD’s ear on the matter and (off record of course) said TD was totally in agreement that the transagenda has gone mad and the “dear leaders” need to be reigned in before they lose their base entirely. DH voiced our concerns about the Sex Ed programme in schools in terms of gender identity and porn. I think a lot of them are very much on the side of reality and common sense but whether or not they’ll be able to sway the “liberal” agenda being pushed by the party leadership I don’t know.

Leopardprintonsie · 22/03/2023 18:28

@RedLemonade but it is starting thank God... Between Enoch Burke & Barbie Kardashian plus all that's gone on in Scotland people are starting to pay attention & speak up. The trans groups will try & shut us all up though...

Believerinbiology · 22/03/2023 18:55

I wouldn't necessarily bank on politicians taking definitive action to resolve this. They will try to pass the buck. Now they're saying it's an issue for the minister for justice, previously it was for the prison service to decide. When the prison service where questioned on which prison a male would go to, they said it was decided by the judge while the judges said it was decided by the prison service. Whatever they say, the welfare of women, particularly those in prison are low on their list of priorities. In California, despite women who have been raped in prison (by male inmates who ID as women) starting law suits, the prisons solution is to think about providing contraceptives to incarcerated women and not to stop the hundreds of males looking to transfer into women's prisons.

LightsOnNow · 22/03/2023 19:04

Just a question for those who might know, if a transwoman is in a female jail for sex offences or violent crime, do the crime stats record that person as female? I presume so, and that means that the stats are false in relation to crimes committed by bio men surely?

Have I got that right?

Believerinbiology · 22/03/2023 19:10

Yes in Ireland, once you have a grc you are for all intents and purposes the "opposite sex" so crime is recorded as female. As we know the number of actual females who commit these crimes is vanishingly small so a few "transwoman" sex offenders will hugely affect the rates (and then TRAs/mras can trot out the line well women do it too). Sex offenders were actually considered prior to the gra but due to all the conflation of sex and gender in legislation it's very hard to make out what is actually meant.

AppleCharlottie · 22/03/2023 19:15

Thanks for the links @Leopardprintonsie.
What did they decide about sex offenders prior to the GRA @Believerinbiology?
