Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

No mention of O'Gorman's side-eye or Martin's eye-rolls. Or the fact that Varadkar and his government have been presiding over a system that has placed at least three violent males in women's jails.

Varadkar is lying when he says he's only hearing about it now. Though it won't be possible to prove that. His feet need to be held to the fire on this, along with Micheál Martin and every other politician responsible for putting violent males in with imprisoned women. Including Mary Lou McDonald and the rest of Sinn Féin.

All the Justice Ministers since Self ID was voted in have been from Fine Gael. Leo must think we are stupid to expect anyone to believe he didn't know.

There's no way he knows what brought Nicola Sturgen down and didn't look to his own back yard. But sure he's known for years. Do have all the rest even Eyeroll Meehole. The difference is that now Joe Public knows. And hopefully he won't like it.

Helen McEntee and Heather Humphries are eternally stained by this. Frances FitzGerald too. Charlie Flanagan seems to have woken up lately, though too late. Varadkar is a liar.

Not answering for LifeinAHamsterWheel but in my opinion this referendum will be the debate about the meaning of gender that has been denied to women since Self ID was introduced

@WaveyGodshawk yes, social media and in person unfortunately. Some people are trying so hard to "be kind" others trying so hard to be cool. I hope we can have an open and unambiguous conversation but I fear that politicians will be doubling down on their lies to cover their backs.

So Leo (says he) didn't know about BK and the problem of TW in women's prisons. Can we infer from that cluelessness that he doesn’t know (or want to know) about all the other problems that gender ideology presents either? The damage being done to children. The homophobia lesbians are experiencing. The issues around women's safety and sport. Hmmm. An interesting few months lie ahead.

Reported on Morning Ireland this morning. They were notable in not mentioning the Irish situation when they covered Scotland. I'd like to think they feel a bit squirmy but I doubt it.

Perfect opportunity for a wave of emails explaining the situation to him since he is self-confessedly clueless and apparently has incompetent advisors. So we should help him out ;-)

I would like to think (hope) that if the referendums on gender get defeated it might wake the government up to how unpopular this is with everyday people.

I also think it's a great opportunity for introducing the conversation about sex vs gender in public life. Most ordinary people don't really think about the differences, or understand the consequences of putting 'gender' into law when it can be anything you want it to be.

@Farmageddon isn't it mental to think that this even needs to go to a referendum. Wait for all the media propoganda from the Trans groups trying to get the publics sympathy.. As a mother of daughters I want my girls to play sports safely with biological girls, use the women's toilets safely & continue to learn basic biology without the lines being muddied.
I also hope this resistance which hopefully will gain momentum will make teens think twice about those ridiculous prounouns.
