Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

The bias of the proposed "research" by TENI mentioned in this article is astounding. Sounds like any healthcare practitioner who does not do exactly what somebody wants, when they want it will be framed as having committed an act of violence. This is similar to the framing of lot of the "research" in the area which is frequently quoted to demonstrate oppression of this group where no distinction is made between a simple slip of the tongue (eg calling somebody a previous name...I call my children and there friends the wrong name about 20 times a day without incident) and actual targeted violence.

I got a really good email from the Countess this morning. Not sure if it has been posted before but if anyone is interested she gives some templates to use when emailing your local TD on the issue, preferable by tomorrow as there is a parliamentary meeting on Wednesday.

Hope it's ok if I copy and paste:

While the subject of teaching transgender ideology in primary schools is in the news this week, we urge you to please write a short letter to your TDs.
The important thing is to raise the issue in numbers as a matter of urgency, i.e. by next Tuesday 14th March, ahead of the Parliamentary Party Meeting on Wednesday morning.

The letter doesn’t need to be more than a couple of bullet points - the main thing is to raise the issue with your TDs, and let them take it from there.

You can search for your TDs by constituency here - just scroll down to search by constituency.

Here are some bullet points you could use:

- It’s harmful to tell children they can be “born in the wrong body”.
This can cause a harmful dissociation in a child’s mind from their body.

- Children do not fully understand the concept of innate biological sex differences until they are about age 6 or 7.
They need to establish this foundation before they can even begin to understand the concept of gender stereotyping or gender identity.

- Teaching transgender ideology to my child contradicts the science curriculum. Boys cannot become girls and girls cannot become boys.

- The Irish National Gender Service has voiced its concerns about the possibility that this is a phenomenon influenced by peer groups and exposure to online influences particularly among young girls and children with autism and mental health issues.

- I do not consent as a parent to these ideas being taught to my child.

If your TDs get enough correspondence on this, it will be raised at Wednesday’s Parliamentary Party Meeting and then in the Dáil.

It's such horseshit. Incredible to believe that these groups are not only entertained but they want to brainwash little kids with this rubbish.
Anyone think this might just be a phase?

Unfortunately, even if it is a phase - there is so much collateral damage being done all the while. Legislation and curriculum changes that may take years to backtrack on, language changes etc.

And it will keep being pushed because there are pharmaceutical companies who stand to gain financially from getting children on the pathway to lifelong hormones. They have basically created a new revenue stream.

Farmageddon · 13/03/2023 09:58

I emailed my 4 local TDs this morning, have gotten one acknowledgement email back so far.
That's more than I got a year or so ago when I emailed my concerns about the Equality Act. Fingers crossed.

ohnoitsagruffalo · 13/03/2023 10:14

I emailed mine last night ,no response yet. Must get hubby to email too by tomorrow

Yes especially with covid & the vaccines pretty much finished with they need to keep the gravy train rolling... Kids are the perfect target..
It galls me that the parents are being bypassed & stepped over. They're going directly to the kids.
What do teachers think? Will they teach it?
So angry that the mainstream media haven't reported the Muslim stance. They just want the Catholic schools as the scape goats. I'm not religious but I'm sick to death of Rtes catholic bashing.

Abhannmor · 14/03/2023 08:57

It is instructive to compare the two conferences. According to the information they released the EPATH / TENI jolly is supported by : -

HSE
Kerry County Council
Cork County Council
Fáilte Ireland
Killarney Chamber of Commerce

In practice that means HSE I suppose. The others are just virtue signalling.
Genspect are paddling their own canoe. I wonder where the speakers and attendees will stay btw?
Most of the reasonably priced BnBs and hostels are hosting refugees.

People are dying and our taxes are funding these luxury beliefs and First World problems.

Leopardprintonsie · 14/03/2023 09:17

On the subject of taxes our taxes pay for our dc's education. We need to have our say on how we want our hard earned money spent.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/03/2023 10:22

Oh God that article has done me in and it's only Tuesday morning 🙄

Why make a big deal about pronouns etc.? And then saying that when he's 3 they'll go with whatever he decides - what if he decides he's a donkey/fireman/fairy? as many 3 year olds do.... Why not just agree with each other that they'll let him play with whatever toys he wants, dress him in whatever is suitable for the weather and just get on with enjoying their new baby?? When did it all become so focussed on this gender shite? Surely you've enough to worry about dealing with your first newborn?!

I despair.

Abhannmor · 14/03/2023 10:31

Fucksake. When I asked my toddlers what they wanted for lunch they would just sigh and look confused. Probably thinking ' stop asking riddles , just give us the grub already '

Kids like certainty. The like boundaries and rules - as long as they are fair and sensible. Paul is going to find this out soon enough. Around 12 they realise mam and dad are a bit silly . Whereas they know everything.

Maybe Juniper will be a Silicon Valley tycoon. Or have that difficult convo with Dad about his vocation for the priesthood. Good luck mate !

Believerinbiology · 14/03/2023 10:46

FFS he gets it too an extent...comments on difference between sex and gender but despite his protestations he buys into the stereotypes fully. It's so frustrating and so regressive. Kids should be free to play with/wear what they like and you can encourage that without denying your child is a boy. When my child goes out in "boys" clothes she doesn't magically become a boy then turn back the next day when she's wearing "girls" stuff. Also she still regularly pretends to be a cat...I might play along and scratch her behind the ears, but I don't feed her cat food or let her use the litter tray!

Abhannmor · 14/03/2023 10:56

@Believerinbiology . So you deny her ' lived experience '. You bigot ! 😂

Bet you don't have mice. Proves she's a 🙀

Annasgirl · 14/03/2023 10:59

I’m glad you all saw that article. I opened my IT app this morning and saw that - and just below it, the Brian Dowling surrogacy promotion article. I’m so glad I no longer pay for the Irish Times. This is the reason the MSM is dying a death.

The blatant misogyny of the establishment in Ireland is hard to come to terms with - a few years ago I thought we had turned a corner, but of course by then, even our right to the name ‘woman’ had been signed away by us, unbeknownst to us. I’m seriously considering moving abroad once the DC are finished school - and I always thought this was a great country to grow old in.

Annasgirl · 14/03/2023 11:01

Also, why would anyone think they are limiting their child by telling them a biological fact? I despair at the level of critical thought.

johnnytightlips · 14/03/2023 11:16

I saw a comment earlier that they have a "theyby"😂

butterfliesanddoves · 14/03/2023 11:17

"Maybe Juniper will be a Silicon Valley tycoon. Or have that difficult convo with Dad about his vocation for the priesthood. Good luck mate !"

This made me laugh. I can imagine the look of horror on his face 😂.

But of course it is also very true. Children grow up and rebel against their parents. The child may well grow up as a boring football mad heterosexual "cis" boy who wants to be a millionaire.
It just shows how clueless he is that he thinks a 3 years old can make such decisions, and if they do they will almost certainly be based on stereotypes.

Crunchingleaf · 14/03/2023 12:16

Normally Social change comes from the bottom up. Our change from a rigid catholic society was not dictated to us by politicians. If anything they kept the church propped up for longer.
This is a change that is being led by lobby groups and other vested interests who have dictated policy without any pushback and scrutiny all cheered on by politicians. The question is why?
It was verboten to question or criticise the church when they were in their pomp. If something can’t be talked about out in the open then it’s something that needs to be talked about.

Leopardprintonsie · 14/03/2023 12:44

@Crunchingleaf the pharmaceutical companies & brown envelopes no doubt..

AppleCharlottie · 14/03/2023 14:25

Isn't it possible to tell your child that he"s a boy and still bring him up in a genger-neutral environment, at least at home?
It's the gender stereotypes that are a problem, not actually being a boy or girl, male or female.

You're very anti the pharmaceutical companies @Leopardprintonsie, you've mentioned them several times now. I don't doubt they like the money associated with selling the relevant drugs, but I'd be surprised if they're the main driver behind what's happening. They have a lot to lose too. Anyone keeping on eye on things should know there are lots of lawsuits on the way.

AppleCharlottie · 14/03/2023 14:27

Gender I mean

Leopardprintonsie · 14/03/2023 14:38

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 09/03/2023 14:54

I fell down a rabbit hole on this recently. Turns out ABBVIE puberty blocker manufacturer has a 7 year history of sponsorship with GAA & LGFA... These things always come back to money/power - follow the money trails and you find the answer.

@AppleCharlottie this post is from @LifeInAHamsterWheel... Gaa sponsored by pharma company ABBVIE who produce hormone blockers... Look how quick the GAA were to allow trans players compete with the gender they have transitioned to.. Money talks in Ireland

Annasgirl · 14/03/2023 14:53

@AppleCharlottie if you wade through all of the history of self ID and gender ideology, it is led by pharma. There is a thread on here which shows the link to the US company that is the biggest producer of these drugs. When someone starts to transition, they are on these drugs for life - even if they later decide to detransition.

AppleCharlottie · 14/03/2023 14:56

That company makes lots of different types of drugs.
Yes, money talks, but there is no actual evidence to suggest that (possible) withdrawal of sponsorship was the basis that the LGFA made the decision to include TW on teams. Frightening if it was, I agree, but is this just guesswork on your and pp's part?
And now you've said pharmaceutical companies are illegally funding lobby groups and politicians (the brown envelope reference). I've no doubt they're providing funding to groups - trans ideology is huge at the moment and they have a vested interest - but to say they illegally have Irish politicians and other organisations in their pockets is a bit much I think. I hope anyway! Just wondering if you have any evidence to support your repeated claims?
