Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

It says it all the the GAA have even been swayed... How many millions did the GAA get for that one has to wonder 🤔 How much extra funding in the pipeline for them now?

m.independent.ie/irish-news/education/schools-should-teach-sexuality-in-fullest-sense-president-michael-d-higgins-says-42377074.html

Michael D also backing the trans education for primary schools. Disgusting statements from him on International Women's Day.

Fucksake Michael , sexuality is what sex one is attracted to. Nothing to do with thinking one is in the wrong body.

Always liked him , his heart is in the right place. But , to quote Magdalen Bern : you opened your mind and your brain fell out.

I fell down a rabbit hole on this recently. Turns out ABBVIE puberty blocker manufacturer has a 7 year history of sponsorship with GAA & LGFA... These things always come back to money/power - follow the money trails and you find the answer.

Leopardprintonsie · 09/03/2023 14:57

@LifeInAHamsterWheel og course they do. The pharmaceutical companies are making huge money out of these kids & want as many as possible converting. Which is why they are by-passing the parents & going straight to the kids.
So many parents haven't a clue due to the vague, biased reporting.

I was amazed to discover it was actually a Sinn Féin TD that pushed for the medical model to be removed from the 2015 gender rec law!
But every single party has gone along with this. The only slight dissent I've seen is from FF.

Which one was it?

mathanxiety · 09/03/2023 15:32

I do know two people who are strongly GC in Dublin.

One has been shunned by her classmates for her convictions.

It's not a big surprise that the issue of women's and girls' rights gets shifted to the end of the line in Ireland whenever someone more important comes along. By someone more important, I mean whiny middle class pressure groups who have adopted the pet woke case of the day.

Look at the women campaigning for redress after symphysiotomy.

Look at the victims of the Magdalenes.

Look at all the men and women whose lives were ruined in the industrial schools.

Look at the sad fate of families living in direct provision.

Poor, voiceless people all. They're not interesting enough for the bleating class.

Abhannmor · 09/03/2023 15:43

@Farmageddon makes a very good point about how we want to be seem as tolerant , liberal and progressive, particularly in contrast to the Brits.

Something similar is happening in Scotland and for the same reasons. We are terribly embarrassed about having been a deeply religious country until the late 20th century. And a largely agricultural one.

We gave the Church too much power and now we must atone for this sin. We will bow to the men in white coats. They will abolish all distinctions and create new super race. Only they can do Trans - substantiation. Ignore the other men in frocks. They are evil!

There's something else that attracts politicians to this stuff. Perhaps you'd like great schools and 🏥 hospitals? Public transport? Social housing ! Sorry , the money's too tight. Be more realistic. Have a rainbow 🌈 lanyard. Take a pronoun, hell - take a hundred. They're free.

Companies are also terrible for this - add a rainbow banner to your website, tweet out some trendy sounding memes; jump on the latest social justice bandwagon to demonstrate how virtuous you are, such a simple way to pretend to be doing something important while really doing nothing at all.

Not like actually doing something principled i.e. paying your employees a decent living wage or ensuring an ethical supply chain - no, because those might affect your profits.

It gives us a way to feeling virtuous (adding pronouns to their work emails) without actually having to do anything meaningful that costs real time or money.

I couldn't remember where I read it, possibly a discussion on MN previously.
Had a search and discovered it was Aengus O'Snódaigh. One of several politicians at the time obviously who pushed for the amendments but I remember it jumping out at me for some reason!

I've a feeling Roderick, Leo et all want big jobs in Europe after their term is up (& they've done as much damage to women & children as they possibly can)

3timeslucky · 09/03/2023 16:51

Thanks for making me laugh with this. Laughs are in short supply having watched IWD be further devalued this year.

Missed that @johnnytightlips but a big European job is what he's gunning for like his predecessor Katherine Zappone..

mathanxiety · 09/03/2023 23:03

@Abhannmor

Yes, bowing the down and the public professions of faith (whatever faith - it doesn't matter - as long as there is rigid dogma involved) is what we seem to crave. It's out with the old, in with the new.

ohnoitsagruffalo · 09/03/2023 23:29

Does anyone know if the CofI schools have said anything about it? My kids are in one, we are atheist but there are no educate together near us, and tbh one of them I went to see before we moved house had that gender diagram on the wall...you know the one with all the little people on a "spectrum of genders" or something which put me right off the educate together! Now I'm wishing I had sent them to one of the Catholic schools near us!

Leopardprintonsie · 09/03/2023 23:47

The Gaelscoilenna haven't spoken out either. My 4 girls are in a Gaelscoil & I'm really hoping alot of this shite is getting lost in translation!
I'm not sure about church of Ireland but the church of England has turned very woke recently...

ohnoitsagruffalo · 10/03/2023 05:00

Thanks Leppard. I had thought CofI was more Conservative than Catholic but looks like I was wrong! Never thought I'd be looking to send my kids to the most conservative school I could find but here we are 🤨 yeah I can imagine a lot of it getting lost in translation in irish alright. Gaelscoil was my first choice when we lived in Dublin but after moving house the closest is 25 mins away which I thought was a bit far for primary. The school they are in is 3 mins away in comparison. Are you going to send the Countess letter to your school or will you wait till you see some evidence of them actually being taught this nonsense? I don't know what to do about the school (its so tiny!) but I will write to my TDs this week

Leopardprintonsie · 10/03/2023 07:16

I'm going to wait. Dc are 6th, 4th & 1st. To be honest there's been nothing untoward so far & I think my eldest missed on on alot it the shpe with covid. When they went back to school catch up was priority & now this year I'm not even sure, there is a big focus on the confirmation & great excitement in the class for the big day.
I do think though that through Irish a lot is getting lost in translation (or at least softened a degree or 2)
They're also going to an Irish speaking secondary.
I would talk to the school to see their stance..
I really feel their trying to do away with the role of women in Ireland & want a bunch of uneducated yes people. They want the teaching time spend on this rubbish increased too.
I still can't believe the mainstream haven't reported the Muslims also wrote to the govt about not wanting the trans education.
They want to make it look like its the Catholic schools only. It's censorship & trying to ignite hate against the Catholic Church & schools

elgreco · 10/03/2023 11:07

Just signed consent for relationship education by Accord, its nuts being pleased about that, and that Catholic sex education is now the lesser evil.

ladymactíre · 10/03/2023 11:08

They wouldn't dare call the Muslim Council "archaic" and "silly"! They'll be ignored as if they said nothing.
I've lived in Ireland for over 20 years, my kids were born and raised here and I love this country. What's happening now leaves me sad and confused. Why this persistence in pushing sex on children, where did the logic, reason, common sense go, what's happening?! To see politicians stepping over each other to affirm this non-sense is Disgusting! Even the President! It's making me sick!
For me gender is a grammatical concept - it can be feminine, masculine and neutral (for some objects, shapes, etc) It has it's use to explain nouns, some pronouns and adjectives.
Sex is male and female and that's it. Simple. The pronouns?! I don't get it, my mind doesn't grasp it
I keep asking myself who am I going to vote for, and I have no answer. Not that my vote will change anything or it's that important, but as a principle. I'm not particularly religious, half of my life was in a communist system, but I'm loosing faith in humanity every single day. All this madness is caused by greed, by money, money became God and we are hurting innocent people

Leopardprintonsie · 10/03/2023 11:22

@ladymactire you're right they won't dare drag the Muslims into this, they want the Catholic schools to be the scapegoat for the "transphobia".
They haven't reported or acknowledged the letter the Muslim council sent. It's disgusting & taking away their voice. This trans brainwashing is completely against their beliefs yet the mainstream media is ignoring them. The Catholic bashing continues . It's censorship.
And I'm sick to death of all the lgbtq propaganda.
Live & let live but I don't want reminding every time I go for a pint of milk ffs.

ladymactíre · 10/03/2023 11:38

yesterday I received my first email with pronouns after the name and I felt my soul dying

Leopardprintonsie · 10/03/2023 11:52

@ladymactire it's completely senseless... Like in all honesty what is the point of children doing biology in school when this nonsense & brainwashing (which is endorsed, enabled & funded by the state) completly contradicts their science education...

I'm in correspondence with a fair few academics via email and it's very common, especially amongst males. One of my ex-boyfriends who is a lecturer has it - feel like saying, yeah I know what you are, you had your he/him inside me FFS.
