Gender critical in Ireland

Muppetryofthepenis · 11/06/2022 16:57

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

Link to citizens assembly recommendations

WaveyGodshawk · 09/03/2023 10:00

I've just had a quick look at that @Believerinbiology.
Just trying to get my thoughts together on this, but wouldn't be too happy with the non transferable aspect of leave for the first year of the child's life either.
Its not going to suit every family, and will the children of those families be at a disadvantage because their parents can't afford to take the shared leave?
It would be better extending paid maternity leave for a year with the option of sharing imo.
That's making me uneasy before even getting to all the gender neutral references.

Will have a proper look at it later

Believerinbiology · 09/03/2023 10:30

Apologies I have reported my second last post and asked for it to be deleted. I reread the recommendations and they refer to gender equality not gender identity regarding article 40.1.
I still hold that article 40.1 does not need to be amended as surely "all citizens shall be held equal before the law" is fairly comprehensive and not controversial.

The impartial president strikes again.
He or his ilk will never have to deal with these consequences...weasel.

@johnnytightlips but what is their agenda & why do they want our kids brainwashed with this tripe.. To be honest teacher friends still say kids are struggling to close the gap after covid. Why waste valuable teaching time on this nonsense which has no scientific truth behind it.
What vile leaders we have in power. All men. Nuff said.

I think the big pharmaceutical companies are behind so much of this woke nonsense... Always a hidden agenda with our courrupt gangsters in the govt.

@Leopardprintonsie, is Norma Foley a man? And, if one looks at some of the male politicians pushing this, one might notice a certain commonality.

Newstalk Breakfast had this this morning:

Leopardprintonsie · 09/03/2023 13:18

Sorry @Genesis1v27 I forgot about Pearls Foley.. Thank you for the article. Rte are not reporting the backlash surprise surprise... Rte have their own agenda too.

Leopardprintonsie · 09/03/2023 13:21

Rte also have refused to report about the Muslim organisation also backing the Catholic schools regarding Transgenderism. Rte seem hell bent on Catholic bashing.

Well I'm glad Ciara Kelly is talking sense, finally we have some mainstream media putting their hands up and saying 'hold on'. I do think that the tipping point will be schools - when parents hear what guff is being taught to their children, and that they are being encourage to take hormones and opt for surgery, surely they will wake up.

It still shocks me how much the government are burying their head in the sand over this, and lashing out with the usual bullshit dismissal of any concerns. Does Michael Martin really think the grassroots Fianna Fail voters want men in their daughter's GAA changing rooms? I don't think so.

But they are playing the TRA handbook at the moment - it's Nicola Sturgeon ploughing on regardless of dissent all over again. Why is this the one issue that they ignore the electorate on, surely they are concerned with polling?

Genesis1v27 · 09/03/2023 13:34

RTÉ Education and Science Correspondent Emma O'Kelly has been biased in her reporting. She also falsely said that the theory of social contagion of transgenderism had been "debunked" by the AAP on the news the other evening.

My mother mentioned something similar about the RTE news last night when there was a report on the Catholic Church objecting to the new curriculum, and then pretty much straight afterwards something about historical paedophilia in the Church.

She said it was like they were trying to remind people of bad things about the Church to discredit them. and she would usually be a defender RTE. It seems their agenda is pretty clear these days.

This issue, and many more besides, is being driven by anti-democratic forces, EU and USA among them. The politicians here aren't interested in people's opinions, and can only smear anyone who speaks up. They won't listen unless they or their replacements are made to listen.

Propaganda is alive & well in Ireland. Unfortunately our beautiful children are the pawns. I really don't know how we can protect them from this dangerous shower in power.
I can believe why people are so blasé because nothing is reported.
I was quite laid back until I saw the proposed curriculum.

This is the problem, if mainstream media aren't reporting it, or worse are saying that there's no social contagion and this is all for the good of the children, then it will be very hard to push back without sounding like a loony. I'm not a huge fan of Mary Lou but I had hoped that being a woman she'd be a bit more sensible, but I read in an article recently that her brother (who she's close to) is a transwoman so I presume she's very sympathetic to the ideology.

AAP... aren't they completely captured? Am I thinking of the right org? Would it be fair to say that they possibly have a vested interest in debunking social contagion theory Hmm
How about RTE look a bit closer to home, with the Cass review of the Tavistock, where we've been sending Irish children for treatment?
Or is joined up thinking, linking facts & stories to much to ask from our national broadcaster?

WaveyGodshawk · 09/03/2023 13:58

I was amazed to discover it was actually a Sinn Féin TD that pushed for the medical model to be removed from the 2015 gender rec law!
But every single party has gone along with this. The only slight dissent I've seen is from FF.

Leopardprintonsie · 09/03/2023 13:58

There needs to be a huge push pack from schools & parents. The Catholic schools & the Muslim organisation (locally many Muslims attend Educate togethers) need to go to the parents directly & conduct their own surveys.

Leopardprintonsie · 09/03/2023 14:00

There's the article there re Mary Lou's brother. So that's Sinn Féin crossed off the list.

I've never heard that about ML, I guess she has her own agenda then. Sinn Fein are terrible about this stuff anyway, so desperate to be seen as progressive.

And you're right about sounding unhinged if you try and talk about it, people have other things going on in their lives so haven't really thought about this in depth, just 'ah shure, what's the harm' etc. That's what they are banking on, for people to not really scrutinise..
And because not much is being reported on here we think we've escaped the worst of it. We tend to think 'that will never happen here', and seem desperate to show how different and tolerant and liberal we are compared to the the UK (or at least our politicians are).
It's so sinister that they want to keep everything under the radar until all the chess pieces are in place, i.e. laws changed, policy changed, official language changed. And then where do we even go to complain? If hate crime legislation is updated to include gender identity as a protected characteristic can we even object to the man in our changing rooms without being deemed a criminal?

Thinking about it makes my head explode!
