Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

Hope she'll be ok @Gubu.
I thought the IRFU had decided TW couldn't play in women's rugby though? Did I get that wrong?

I don't think it was a formal match, which in itself is probably more dangerous without proper training or supervision

3timeslucky · 04/03/2023 08:10

I really hope that all of you who have posted so eloquently here send those thoughts to the powers-that-be in the GAA (and copy your TDs and Ministers ideally). If these people do not hear from us they can just claim that no-one is really bothered and no-one has contacted them (and TDs are doing just that). It doesn't have to be long or detailed just a couple of lines like you'd post here. Or if you don't post but are reading and nodding along, borrow the words of a post that says what you feel and use it as the basis of your email or letter.

They want it to go away. We have to make sure they understand that that is not going to happen

www.rte.ie/news/2023/0306/1360515-transgenderism-schools/
The push to extend the reach of this on the primary schools curriculum continues. Does anybody know when consultation on the reform of the primary school rse programme is open? When I filled out the (biased/poorly worded) junior cycle one I looked at the current primary school materials and they were as bad.

Believerinbiology · 06/03/2023 18:13

RTE also have a second piece up of an interview with an individual who transitioned to try to garner support. Funny how there's no mention of what's happening this week with rse programmes being suspended due to concerns over the materials being taught.

Also, have you seen the IWD thread over in feminism? UL, UCD and now the Oireachtas all favouring biological males over women for International Women's Day.

VaddaABeetch · 06/03/2023 18:42

@Believerinbiology thankx for posting this. I’m so feckin annoyed at all this. Have you see the news about money being taken from a budget for Traveller education to be given to BeLong to?

3timeslucky · 06/03/2023 18:48

Irish news today would have any sane woman (or man) despairing.

Genesis1v27 · 06/03/2023 18:50

There is more on that funding story here, including a link to the initial report in the Sunday Independent:

VaddaABeetch · 06/03/2023 19:17

UCD have 2 men hosting IWD.

the houses of the Oireachtas will be addressed by a man for IWD.

I wonder if we will see this on RTE news?

WTF? Are you serious? How insulting and ridiculous.

VaddaABeetch · 06/03/2023 19:32

The men are obviously the special kind

butterfliesanddoves · 06/03/2023 19:41

RTE were at pains to report how offended BeLongTo were by the word "contagion" being used by the Catholic schools management association.
The actual facts that were in the letter to Roderic O'Gorman, outlining legitimate concerns, were of course ignored.
There is evidence of social contagion, but BeLongTo use the usual tactics of diverting away from the core issue by feigning offense.

RTE, of course, didn't bring anyone from the CPSMA on to outline their concerns.
No debate.
The RTE website prominently features the story of a transgender person telling their story of how "exhausting" they find all this.

Meanwhile, RTE ignored the deplatforming of Mary Kenny, a founder of the Irish Women's Liberation movement for IWD,due to allegations of Transphobia by students who weren't even born when she was out marching for women's rights.
No mention either of the manner in which unspent money was almost entirely allocated by the Department of Equality and Children to LGBTQI groups including TENI who had serious question marks around their accounts.
RTE are a complete disgrace.

But of course. Will this be televised or anything do you know? Would love a video showing how ridiculous this all is....feels like we're being laughed at.

Believerinbiology · 06/03/2023 20:10

Jesus how is that funding story being ignored by the national broadcaster while it puts up so much pro trans nonsense. There's no semblance of balance.
It's an extra slap in the face for women that the Magdalene laundry fund was used ...money for women who were persecuted, dehumanized and incarcerated because of their biology given to me who are dismantling any protections women have since gained.
As I've said before all the briefs that Roderic O'Gorman holds need to be separated from each other because of the clear conflicts of interest between the groups bit now in addition how the minister can move funds from one group to hos favoured group.

Believerinbiology · 06/03/2023 20:13

Also on the UCD IWD session. It is the only event being run for IWD by the alumni group and it's also chaired by a man, so three men presenting for IWD. It's gone beyond ridiculous at this stage.

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 08:10

I'm sorry if my post isn't as eleqount as those above. I came on craicnet to see if anything was said about the primary schools intending to introduce trans education to young children.
I have 3 primary school girls. This is horrific. This is a very tiny majority of the population that valuable time will be spent educating(brainwashing). How many Ukrainians & other refugees are in Ireland? I think we should firstly educate our children to be tolerant, kind & welcoming to these vulnerable members of our society.
Also so much valuable time academic was over covid & many children are still struggling to catch up.
Personally I would like the time & money spent on children learning a European language or coding.
What is Roderic o Gorman's agenda?

Believerinbiology · 07/03/2023 08:52

Unfortunately Leopard they're already teaching it. The Busy Bodies booklet has been updated to contain sections on gender identity and the language has been changed through it to distance the meaning of girl/boy from sexed bodies. It used to be a very simple straight forward booklet that explained the basics of puberty but now introduces the idea that if you don't feel comfortable in your body (what adolescent child does?) you may be trans. You can access the booklet through the curriculumonline.ie or ncca websites. The ncca say the junior cycle curriculum is being redeveloped first, then senior cycle, then primary. There was an appalling survey last year seeking input to the junior cycle one. At the time I had also looked through all the resources available in the teaching toolkits for both primary and junior cycle gender identity was being taught in both. There was huge conflation and contradiction in terms used throughout the resources that left me as a parent totally confused so what hope do 10 year olds have? Weirdly, I can't seem to access a lot of the toolkit resources today so I don't know if they've tidied them up or if it's because I'm on my phone.
"we should firstly educate our children to be tolerant, kind & welcoming to these vulnerable members of our society"...exactly but apparently that's abhorrent speech!

WaveyGodshawk · 07/03/2023 08:53

I never thought I'd see the day when I'd prefer my dc to be in a Catholic school rather than ET.
I thought that letter they sent was great, so measured and talking about the lack of consensus internationally etc - finally the grownups are in the room! Then to see both Varadkar and Martin disagreeing with it - can they not see which way the wind is blowing? As for O'Gorman... It's scandalous that he diverted funds from the Magdalen redress scheme - while telling people that weren't in one longer than 6 months that they didn't qualify. I'm incensed.

WaveyGodshawk · 07/03/2023 08:56

Also the INTO statement was very telling on how captured they are - deferring to the "experts" to deliver training on this issue. Teni and Belongto obviously

A Gaelscoil is best! I'd say a lot gets lost in translation 🤞

Believerinbiology · 07/03/2023 09:03

Don't think your child will escape this in a Catholic school...a few months ago I was at several secondary school open evenings with my child. Just as much gender identity stuff on display in Catholic/Multi faith as ET. In the Catholic girls school a gay male drag queen (who has since been transed by TRAs despite him describing himself as a gay man) featured on a wall display of women who have left their mark on the world.

Not surprised at Varadkar but disappointed in Mehole.. Parents need to revolt. Look at the right wing movements & the targeting of the vulnerable refugees. I think it's much more important that kids are taught to respect & include these. They are a much larger group than the trans minority.

@Believerinbiology I wasn't aware of this. It's actually frightening. I can see many taking their kids out of school & homeschooling if they have the time & means.

Believerinbiology · 07/03/2023 09:24

Leaving aside the question of how TENI initially secured funding from the HSE, when TENI failed to provide financial reports for years on end causing the HSE to stop funding them it should have been a clue that they should not be taken seriously. Instead the funding continued via Roderic O'Gorman and huge weight seems to be given to anything TENI says and they are allowed to rewrite education (Busy Bodies book) and healthcare material. Not only that but Sara Phillips seems to have been hugely instrumental in dismantling what the National Women's Council of Ireland once stood for...now Sara, a biological male, is on the executive, women who speak out against this are condemned and they use the trans symbol instead of the female one for IWD.
Between this thread and the IWD I think I need to go and bury my head in the sand for a while.

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 10:19

I can't believe how little press coverage this is getting. What is the agenda behind it?

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 10:23

www.newstalk.com/news/children-should-be-taught-about-trans-issues-in-primary-school-belong-to-1443802?utm_source=whatsapp&utm_campaign=article&utm_medium=web

This article is frightening. The woman says the children know they could be gay from age 6 or 7...but mostly are trans?
Do they know the harm they are doing to childen.. What is behind this? Is it the big pharma companies?
