Gender critical in Ireland

Muppetryofthepenis · 11/06/2022 16:57

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

I'm fed up of the faux arguments/evidence...6 to 7, I would say, is the prime age it becomes apparent to kids that boys and girls are often treated differently and that gender stereotyping of behaviour is pushed on them. If somebody offered me the solution of being a boy at that age I would have jumped at it. It is so wrong that instead of being told that the different treatment and attitudes are wrong these kids are told they can change name/sex/body to fit in and this reenforcement of stereotypes and gender roles is somehow presented as dismantling stereotypes.

Abhannmor · 07/03/2023 10:51

As others have said , we need to write to our TDs about this situation. Or see them face to face , better again.
@Leopardprintonsie mentions Ukrainian refugees. Many are Catholic or Orthodox, as are Poles , Slovaks, Serbs and Croats. What about their religious rights?

They'll have enough on their plate learning English pronouns without this ' affirmation ' being forced on them. I predict a boom in applications to Catholic schools and Gaelscoileanna.

WaveyGodshawk · 07/03/2023 10:53

Oh my dc are in an ET, nearly finished primary school now though. I thought I was escaping indoctrination by sending them there!
In fairness though I haven't come across any suspect material so far, apart from when they had to do some online thing and the gender Hmm options were boy, girl or other which my ds was a bit bemused about. I can't remember what it was exactly unfortunately now. And our school admissions policy references sex on the protected characteristics section - it had me thinking there must be someone gc on the board.

I suppose the point I was making that I was so relieved to finally see a pushback on this from an official body. Its so disheartening to see its already out there in what young kids are being taught.

PS I had a lot of time for Greens like Trevor Sargent . And they do represent a legitimate strand of opinion which is needed ie about the Climate and environment.

It's such a shame they've been captured by this mad lobby. I can see them being wiped out at the next GE.

WaveyGodshawk · 07/03/2023 10:55

Completely agree with this re refugees.

Absolutely. How can they expect the public to trust them on climate issues when they are so captured by such an unscientific ideology.

I've of my local green councillors was recently involved in a twitter spat with our library which led to the library's account being taken down AFAIK. They've lost my vote here anyway.
Politically homeless as they say, all the parties I'd traditionally align with are full on captured.

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 11:22

WaveyGodshawk · 07/03/2023 10:55

Completely agree with this re refugees.

I would much prefer my dc to be learning about the refugees plight & struggles than trans brainwashing . How we can all play our part in welcoming & supporting them. That would be time we'll spent especially with so many refugees in classrooms accross the country. A module refugee integration would benefit & educate everyone.

Abhannmor · 07/03/2023 11:25

Cllr Neasa Hourigan tweeted her disappointment with the statement by Catholic school managers. She was ratio'd badly in the comments though.

But of course we are all 'in denial' that transgenderism exists. Or we are dupes of sinister far right Christians. This is ordinary parents they are insulting, many of whom will have voted Green , PBP or Social Democrat.

I've voted for all of the above actually. The evasive, disingenuous tone is what annoys me.
It's ' we're only letting children know such things exist and to be compassionate'.

Bull . If that's all that was happening the boards of management would be fine with it.

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 11:31

Look at the way the U. S schools are brainwashing kids. My DH called me an "old biddy" this morning as I was pissed off & said I want the dc to have a tradional education.. I just can't get over how little press this is getting & the little bit that's there is very one sided..

Abhannmor · 07/03/2023 11:33

We're all politically homeless @WaveyGodshawk @Leopardprintonsie !

Unless you vote for some far right nutbag . And that's a no no for most of us . Despite the hysterical attempts to smear us as gay bashing neo nazis .

There's a Women's Equality Party in England. But it accepted the trans agenda early on alas.

WaveyGodshawk · 07/03/2023 13:34

It's maddening. I've been left leaning all my life, I've been having the "difficult conversations" for years with family & friends re abortion and marriage equality etc.
To be now branded far right! Stop the world I want to get off, it's all just too mad Ted.

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 13:39

Why can't they educate the parents via zoom meetings & via afterschool classes for parents. That way parents can choose what they wish to divulge or not.
I hate the way their trying to go directly to the kids.

Plenty of pushback on Twitter, nothing from establishment media or system opposition in the Oireachtas.

I agree the 'trans people exist' thing makes no sense to me...of course they exist - there they are I'm looking at them!

Disagreeing with gender identity ideology doesn't mean you don't want people to exist, it just means I don't have to agree with their self image, especially when there are consequences for other people.
It's such emotionally manipulative language - you are trying to destroy us, all while women's spaces and language and being steadily erased in the background.

I really hope there is more pushback in Ireland, every single person I have talked to lately about this is sick of it and the outrage is growing (particularly parents of young kids dreading having to deal with schools on this).

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 14:45

There is absolutely going to be a pushback. I'd like to know what other European countries like Spain, Italy, Germany etc are teaching. I know Eastern European countries are far more conservative & trans brainwashing would not be on their agenda.
Other much more deserving, vulnerable groups that kids need to be educated about their inclusion..
I mentioned already about refugees but what about children & adults with special needs. Their funding in schools has been cut right back. Children can be downright cruel to children with adhd, autism & down syndrome. These groups need to be prioritised over a very tiny trans section of the population.

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 14:47

@Farmageddon the thing is many more parents don't know as it's not in the mainstream media. The cover up is disgusting. Roll on 20 years when all the high court cases start from the transitioners.. It will be the states fault.

I find that very irritating. The standard but meaningless reply
"of Trans people exist".
We f*cking know that.
That isn't the problem.
It's the teaching that people can turn into the opposite sex, that gender stereotypes are a reflection of your sex, that biology doesn't matter, that being a boy or a girl is a feeling, these are the issues, not that trans people exist.
But by using these slogans they have consistently shut down discussion, so they keep spouting out the same old mantras.

VaddaABeetch · 07/03/2023 15:59

I’d suggest for anybody who hasn’t seen these yet to look on

womensspaceireland.ie
thecountess.ie

Both are women’s group lobbying on these issues

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 16:02

@VaddaABeetch thank you very much. As a mother of three girls this is so disturbing. I'm also very proud of their "girliness", love of pink, dolls & Justin Beiber. I wouldn't change them for the would & hope they feel the same about themselves.

PleasantBirthday · 07/03/2023 16:02

If parents are worried about what teachers might be forced to teach on this subject, the INTO's glassy eyed presentation is an indication and it's pretty terrifying.

True, and I love a bit of pink too, but if a girl happens to love blue and short hair and trucks instead that should be absolutely fine too. It shouldn't make her any less of a girl. I really don't like all the gender stereotyping that's part of the trans movement, it seems such a retrograde step.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 07/03/2023 16:25

I'm so worried about this. My son is in secondary school and while certainly tolerant of all sorts he's fed up with the pretty constant 'celebration' of all things gay and trans. What about the straight 'normal' teens - are they not "brave" and "stunning" and "amazing" etc?? Meanwhile, my DD who will be starting secondary school in September is the most gender non-conforming girl I've ever met. She's not interested in 'girly' fashion or makeup, has short hair, reads science articles for fun etc. - I have the most awful dread that instead of being accepted for who she is and being taught to love herself as the young woman she's becoming that she'll be told 'oh you must be trans' Sad She has never ever mentioned anything about not being happy being a girl, or that she wishes she was a boy etc. but we all know how impressionable teens are and it really does worry me that this might be presented as an option for her. I agree that the whole notion of trans ideology only endorses sex stereotypes! Why can't people see that?! Children should just be taught how to accept themselves for who they are, and to become comfortable with their bodies. Not that if they're not comfortable (and what teen is?!) they can just change sex!

Absolutely, totally agree. They can wear what the hell they want but shouldn't ever have to apologise for bring girly. In saying that they can keep up with the best of the in GAA (with the pink boots😂).

@LifeInAHamsterWheel that is the big fear isn't it. My niece is the exact same & my sister thinks that she's an easy prey to be target as she's desperate to find her tribe..
I'm looking at secondary schools at the moment & everyone of them I follow on social media have gone completely over board with highlighting how inclusive they are.. It's ramming it down children's necks. LBQT Ireland have the legal right to marry, adopt, have all their pride festivals.
Can the schools just be left alone please.
Why are the government bowing & scraping to these minority groups? What is the end agenda?

Leopardprintonsie · 07/03/2023 17:48

Out of interest how are private schools handling this? I would imagine if parents are paying for education they get a greater voice & can shout louder? For me the Gaelscoilenna is the best bet, so much gets totally lost (or at least softened) in translation 🤣
