Gender critical in Ireland

Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

Crossposting from other thread:

The Countess group have issued a statement and a short template letter:

The LGFA have betrayed women and girls in sport

I don't think I would want to be a coach failing to select the trans girl for a team. Even if you wanted to.

I agree with you. Especially after the recent case in Swords.

Grassisbluer · 20/02/2023 17:22

Yes, wouldn't the approch taken shift the responsibility and fall-out on to the coaches @AinmÁlainn?

I think so too, but he's absolutely sure it just won't happen. He has coached a bit at low level (up to u13s) so has knowledge of how it works and seems to think it just won't happen. I hope he's right. I fear he's wrong.

Believerinbiology · 20/02/2023 18:12

Why is he so naive? Of course there are clubs that will play boys if it gives them an advantage and they have now been given the green light to. Clubs do plenty of things which are "against the rules" for advantage so will easily go along with sanctioned cheating. I know of plenty of teams were bangers are regularly played and it's just hoped nobody will question them. Also lots of teams will play a few A team players when their B team is up against a stronger team.

Believerinbiology · 20/02/2023 18:17

Why do organisations try to appease TRAs by disregarding and disadvantaging the women and girls they are supposed to represent when the trans organisations are never going to be happy with their concessions anyway as proven by I think 3times posted quote from Belong to in the other thread. There going to be pissed off anyway so just say No.

I think most coaches will be very reluctant to put any female player marking a biological male. These coaches are volunteers and aren't going to risk the consequences of a serious injury in an amateur game.
The LGFA mentioned "unacceptable risk" in their policy. It won't be transwomen removed due to unacceptable risk. It will be women.

The thing is that it would have been easy enough to say no. The precedent had been set by the IRFU, and after a few days of stamping feet, the media moved on.
The same would have happened with the LGFA, but they didn't have the courage to protect women. Instead they seem to have brought in transactivists to write up the policy.

Abhannmor · 20/02/2023 18:29

Hmm. Your dh may be right...in the heel of the hunt @AinmÁlainn . It could be it will just be knocked back at grass roots.

Similarly with the schools , perhaps all the guidelines and glossy packs about affirmation will be quietly placed in a drawer somewhere.

But you'd hope the coaches and teachers wouldn't be put in this invidious position in the first place. It's outrageous.

Is the unacceptable risk injury or hurt feelings?

I'd don't know about the GAA/LGFA but in schools we are well past the point of wondering. Schools are affirming identities up and down the country. Gender Identity is being described as fact during Stand Up Week as the materials are provided by a lobby group who describe the week as theirs. Same applies with schools as with sports: parents need to voice our opposition, raise our concerns, request that our children not be indoctrinated/taught this material.

Believerinbiology · 20/02/2023 19:25

Gender identity stuff is widespread in secondary schools and if not affecting day to day running is certainly given much prominence in visual displays on the corridors from rainbow adorned pronoun signs to the inclusion of a gay man (who was a drag queen but has been trans washed to a transwoman) given pride of place on a wall dedicated to women who have made an impact on the world...in an all girls school.

Can someone post the link for the podcast interviewingnsome LGFA players and someone from the countess. I want to send a link to my committee along with my letter of complaint which I will be sending to LGFA head quarters.

This is a pretty good article by Colette Colfer, discussing the relationship between the HSE and TENI
"Understandably, TENI focuses specifically on the needs, wants and wishes of transgender people. It’s not within their remit, and is not their goal, to consider female prisoners, women’s sports, detransitioners, or women who want single-sex changing rooms or other single-sex spaces. The HSE, on the other hand, as a public health organisation, has a duty of care for all the people of Ireland. Changes they initiate in the interest of one group have a knock-on impact on others."

I think this statement applies not just to the HSE but equally applies to the LGFA, the Dept of Education, politicians and mainstream media.

Hannah Barnes was interviewed by Shane Coleman on Newstalk this week. Good interview and Shane asked all sorts of sensible questions. There is specific reference to the Irish situation and Donal O'Shea:

Any lucky people live in Kerry? It doesn't get much better than this: www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4754933-genspect-wpathepath-conference (and there's a log-in option for those of us a bit too far away)

Gubu · 03/03/2023 18:15

That looks like a great event. A weekend in Killarney could be fun!

Very interestingly I spoke to someone today who is firmly TWAW. But her friend's early 20s daughter got knocked flattened by a tw when playing rugby, resulting in a concussion she's been told could take 6 months to recover from. She said "we need to find a way to accommodate tw" but didn't push back when I said no, we don't. Would have been a very different conversation a couple of weeks ago.

AppleCharlottie · 03/03/2023 18:37

Hope she'll be ok @Gubu.
I thought the IRFU had decided TW couldn't play in women's rugby though? Did I get that wrong?

Believerinbiology · 03/03/2023 19:01

Sadly it often takes personal experience of harm to women and girls to open people's eyes to the pitfalls of "be kind". As it becomes more widespread, more and more people will realise the harms, unfortunately women and girls will continue to suffer until then.
