Just wondering if there are many others out there. Was reading a political pamphlet and it was going on about self ID and how important it is. I just don't agree and think it's so damaging to change the definition of what a woman is. And the definition of a man too, I guess. Sex based rights are under threat in Ireland. Fed up with all the nonsense. Wondering what other Irish mumsnetters think.

One thousand children. I mean, we knew it was awful but I just find that appalling.

PleasantBirthday · 11/08/2022 10:24

Right, on foot of this absolute shocker of an article, it's time to cancel my subscription:

www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/2022/08/10/exclusion-of-trans-women-from-contact-rugby-sets-dangerous-precedent-advocates-say/

www.irishtimes.com/sport/rugby/2022/08/10/irfu-excludes-transgender-women-from-participation-in-contact-rugby/

Decision made. This is completely unbalanced nonsense designed only to pander to interest groups and has no interest in giving any opposing view or even discussing the science in a balanced way.

SolasAnla · 11/08/2022 10:48

I see that LGBT Ireland is busy rebranding to an intersex organisation too.
I am guessing that these organisations are going to run with the anti-british trope but how will they claim that a UK bepenised person is different to an Irish bepenised person??

A case by case would include what?
Asking if the player has a penis and wanted to use the showers?

LadyEloise1 · 11/08/2022 16:03

I was surprised by RTE too yesterday. Usually they are very careful to have balance when discussing something reasonably controversial.

PleasantBirthday · 11/08/2022 16:36

Yes. I mean, I can read TENI's press releases myself (if I ever get a severe blunt force trauma to the head). I don't need them read out to me as "news".

You should write to them and tell them exactly why they are losing your business. I agree, the blatant misrepresentation of facts is ridiculous.

They are not banned from playing rugby, they are simply confined to the correct category. It's emotionally manipulative reporting to suggest otherwise.

@PleasantBirthday I cancelled my subscription to the IT. Just couldn’t take the wall of silence on the impact of the GRA. Anything topical relating to trans people was either not touched with a barge pole or was presented in the most blatantly biased way.

I emailed them (didn’t specify a reason in the initial email) and they didn’t even email back, just stopped charging me and cancelled my account!

I’m thinking of signing up for the Indo now. I did similar with my Guardian account some years back and moved to The Times. I can’t quite believe it sometimes; I’ve always thought of myself as a leftie, but there you have it.

I think a lot of us are questioning our leftie credentials over this stuff. It can be quite destabilising to see yourself on the other side of an issue than most of your peers. but this is too important an issue to brush under the carpet.

And I'm so frustrated and angry with the Irish media in general with their approach to this issue - it's either deafening silence, or pandering nonsense.

They are missing one of the biggest stories of recent times - the blatant erasure in law of women's rights, spaces, language etc. and the government approved medicalisation of vulnerable children. And it's not that they don't know what's happening, they just don't care, which is far worse.

Abhannmor · 11/08/2022 21:16

I cast my first vote for the Communist ☭ Party many moons ago. Not much has happened in the meantime to change my views.

The reason I am immune to Identity Politics crap is because I am a socialist. This nonsense is the ultimate in capitalist consumerism and possessive individualism.

Whereas Socialism is about improving the material conditions of poor people and equal opportunities for all. The End.

Abhannmor · 11/08/2022 21:18

But...having said that I've got no bugger to vote for!

lorettaobrian · 17/08/2022 15:31

Even though I stopped my subscription o still get emails from NWCI and the latest one today was galling.... in the same email referencing the latest violent deaths of Larisa Serb an and Miriam Burns, and then "it's also been a difficult week for trans community given the IRFUs decision..."

I'm disgusted at their neck Angry

Abhannmor · 17/08/2022 19:45

We really lack a projectile vomit 🤮 emoji . This one isn't strong enough to convey my disgusting with NWCI.

VaddaABeetch · 17/08/2022 21:07

Conflating male body people not allowed play a contact sport with women is sadder than women being violently killed?

who are these women in NWCI & who sucked out their brains. They’re a disgrace.

Joolsin · 17/08/2022 23:19

That is appalling, virtually brushing over the tragic and violent deaths of women in their sycophantic rush to beeeee kind. Disgraceful.

Yep, notice the movement on wording,
MVAWAG
Male Violence Against Women And Girls

... victims of male men's violence against women ....

And the automatic assumption that the death of a woman under investigation was as a result of MVAW why would they jump to that conclusion before someone was charged???

who are these people who ID as women in NWCI & who sucked out their brains. They’re a disgrace.

Advocating for the bepenised ignoring the bevulvaed on (performance enhancing) drugs would also not be able to play in female teams or the likelyhood of a female being sucessful on the male team .....

People who ID as policy writers and approvers set the tone of any organisation.

Have you looked at it's management?

Farmageddon · 18/08/2022 15:46

I'm guessing the NCWI have been infiltrated by the 'beeee kind' brigade, how disappointing. Is there nowhere safe for women from this nonsense?

Abhannmor · 18/08/2022 18:18

Ah , Sara Phillips....

3timeslucky · 18/08/2022 18:19

It is worrying to think that the organisations that the board members have been/are involved in might hold the same views as the NWCI espouses.

I was going down the list going 'yes, yes, ok, fine, what's the....oh'.
I love how they claim that passing is totally common and nobody can tell the difference.

It must be pretty galling for the rest of them to have to deal with the self indulgent one....

Can imagine there's quite a lot of mansplaining ... oops, my mistake ... transplaining around the boardroom table.

I look at it differently. Philips has been there a good while. But is one person. But all those women who at surface level we think are "fine, grand, ok etc" are on the same page as Philips. That really worries me. That Philips is self-serving and has an agenda that is nothing to do with women doesn't surprise me. That the others do also is much worse not just because they're supposed to be the NWCI but because these are women with experience on the coalface of women's issues.

3timeslucky · 19/08/2022 08:01

Just adding, I'm not underplaying the significance of Philips presence. It absolutely sets the stage for the centring of trans perspectives and undermines the ability of the NWCI to actually represent women. Philips should never have got the place and will be loathe to give it up. Is there a time limit on how long a board member can serve? The NWCI will never be of any use as long as Philips is there.

FionaMacCool · 19/08/2022 08:57

Ah, flip, I had written an intelligent response to you 3timeslucky.
I dont know why NWCI as such devout adherents to the trans cause.
The majority of their funding seems to be from the Govt i.e. me the taxpayer.

www.nwci.ie/images/uploads/Signed_Financial_Statements_2020_-_NWCI.pdf

But, surely, Trans-issues=Trans-issues.....not, Trans-issues=/= Womens-issues.

3timeslucky · 19/08/2022 10:28

I'm with you on that FionaMacCool . That they're getting government (ie tax payer) funding and carrying on the way they are really pisses me off. They should change their name and own what they are. It isn't just that trans issues are not women's issues but there's a direct conflict between the demands of TRAs and women's concerns and that is evidenced in the legislation that they've managed to foist on us.
