Anyone signed up for this? Payments for shifting your energy use away from peak times/within a given timeslot each day.

I'm doing it this year despite the reduced rewards. I just like having that hour of being more conscious about energy usage, but I can completely see how it's not worth the hassle if it causes a major inconvenience, i.e. people with young children etc.

There was only an email notification, I wonder if it's not worth the cost for Octopus to use WhatsApp this year, although it took them a while to get going with the notifications in previous years.

Oh 😞 we weren't with octopus last year so nothing to compare it to. They are saying 60p paid per kWh now. What was it last year?

I can't remember exactly how much it was last year but the Octopus website says...

"the reward will be about 75-90% lower than in previous years. So it's worth keeping this in mind if you do choose to take part."

There's a saving session tonight if anyone wants to take part 5:30-6:30pm

Bjorkdidit · 13/02/2025 05:36

I'm not with Octopus any more but I religiously did all but one of their savings sessions in winter 2023/4, sometimes even going as far as unplugging and turning off everything in the house and using the time to read in bed with my Kindle.

I saved less than a tenner for the whole winter so it's not necessarily worth it for the financials at any rate, more a bit of fun and a sense of doing your bit to reduce the load on the stretched electricity grid.

Other users did save more but perhaps they were usually showering, cooking, running the tumble dryer and using electric heating and didn't do any of these during the saving sessions?

It will depend on what you normally do at that time. On one session timed when we are generally cooking, kids are just in from school so everything gets switched on including high energy stuff like PlayStations etc, I saved £6 in one go when we turned everything off

hello Octopus people! Sorry to jump on the thread but wondered if anyone is on a tracker or variable rate tarriff on Octopus and if you're thinking of going to fixed? Rates seem to be jumping a lot! thanks :)

I moved to fixed last month from the tracker tariff. It's no longer worth it in my opinion.

I've just fixed when they sent me an offer. It's not locked in so you can exit if things go the other way. Seemed like a no brainer to me.
