Still opting in here too but not doing much differently, we don't use a lot of power when it's just me and the DC at home (can live without heating on, using TV etc) - it's when DP gets back that the usage shoots up Confused

tribpot · 15/12/2023 09:36

Is your heating gas, @MissAmyPond ? Don't forget it's electricity only.

Same issue here - DS and I are happy to turn things off but DH refuses to turn off the TV unless I go around and disconnect all the Alexas and whatnot. (In his defence, he can't do that as he is disabled).

@bluevelvetbox I think the approach has changed, I'm sure the original email from Octopus said expect something like one or two test events per month (plus unknown number of live events, as that's more weather-related). All these events this week have been test events. I think @forgotmyusername1 said these short notice ones are to test how many people can participate at short notice.

MissAmyPond · 15/12/2023 14:54

The heating is indeed gas @tribpot but I have told the DC and DP that the savings apply to all energy usage, as otherwise they would have the house like a sauna and I get far too hot... DP in particular will sit there in a T shirt with the heating roaring away then moan that he gets cold whilst watching TV and doing nothing for hours. This way we save money and DP has to move his bum a bit more and/ or put a jumper on, win/ win there I feel Wink

Other than that I try to be out when the sessions are on!!

WhathaveIdoneagain · 15/12/2023 17:39

I missed today's event. DS had friends round, and I didn't check my emails.

Filterphobia · 15/12/2023 20:41

I opted in but doubt I have saved anything this time. It was DS birthday party so we had his friends round gaming. Turned a few things off and didn’t use the oven, washing machine etc during that hour but doubt it will amount to much.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 19/12/2023 15:02

There is an event between 5pm and 6pm today. I always opt in just in case.

tribpot · 19/12/2023 15:11

Just spotted that on Twitter @WhathaveIdoneagain - thanks for the warning! Yes, will similarly be opting in to do our best, probably lights off and gas cooking only but DH will once again refuse to turn off the TV.

Filterphobia · 19/12/2023 17:10

I’ve opted in to tonight’s one. I’ve literally turned everything off apart from the fridge freezer and one light.

I noticed that this one states that all those in the top 20% of savers will get a bonus 400 points, so an extra £5 up for grabs on top of any savings during the session.

Filterphobia · 19/12/2023 17:38

Actually 400 points is 50p not £5 isn’t it!? My bad!

tribpot · 19/12/2023 20:30

Yes, just been looking the detail up - 800 points = £1, so 8 points to a penny.

Desecratedcoconut · 20/12/2023 10:08

Has anyone got the points from the 13th yet?

Filterphobia · 20/12/2023 16:22

Last points I have received are from 5th Dec, still waiting for all those from 12th Dec onwards. I do feel like it’s taking longer than I remember last year

Sorry this is off-topic but has anyone had an issue with Octopus not billing them for electricity for the last month or two? When I call or email about this I'm being told there is a "tech issue" which is preventing them from billing me. All my half-hourly readings are showing fine in the app so it's frustrating (particularly as I'm massively in credit but can't request a refund as they haven't billed me). Thanks in advance and sorry again for derailing.

tribpot · 20/12/2023 18:19

We've got to do something whilst waiting for our results to come in @sorrynotathome !

I've had issues in the past with Octopus not billing me for electricity, I'm on the Octopus Go tariff. They've told me it's due to a missing half-hour reading somewhere over the course of the month and I think when I downloaded all my data there was indeed one missing segment (or maybe two). However, whenever I email them they are able to issue a bill straight away.

I've found them most responsive on Twitter, I would contact them there and ask when they are going to bill you and how you can request a refund in the meantime, that's not on.

@Desecratedcoconut no points here after 5th December.

At least once a year. I just send them an email and they sort it out by the next month/one after.

Yes, No bills recently even though I'm sending in readings. But also for some reason we are unable to take part in the Octoplus saving energy sessions. When I complained they started giving me points for each missed session.
They are sending an engineer out in January to check the Smart Meter.

sorrynotathome · 20/12/2023 20:25

Thanks all. I have called twice and emailed twice but they still insist there is a “tech issue”. I will try Twitter/X!

Desecratedcoconut · 20/12/2023 23:15

Thanks. Hopefully they'll be in soon. We're only new-ish octopus customers so just getting the hang of this.

Chasingsquirrels · 21/12/2023 16:40

I've got 12 & 14 Dec showing now.
I discharged back to the grid from my battery so had decent differentials.

Mine are in too, just the 19th to go.

Filterphobia · 22/12/2023 19:04

Well done @forgotmyusername1 I’m on £43.79 and have also won the extra 400 points on the most recent session 😊

No more planned sessions until the new year!

Brogues · 22/12/2023 20:36

I also got the 400 point bonus for saving £1.37 and being in the top 20% snorts

WombatChocolate · 22/12/2023 22:55

For the last 3 sessions I got 28p, 32p and 0 for the middle one, which I actually forgot about after signing up.

I will continue to sign up when I see the sessions and if I just earn a few pence each time, that’s fine. We are mostly gas here, so not huge scope to save on electricity.

Troubledwords · 17/01/2024 14:18

Opted in for tonight's session, but I doubt I'll get much cheaper. Haven't used anything high energy recently in the evenings.
